Single Parent/Special Needs Parent *Stress of Finding Child Care*

Y’all......this has turned into the most epic, saga, story of my life! I feel like no matter what I do, or how hard I try, finding child care for my special needs son is always the most stressful part my life. I HAVE to work, there’s no getting around that. Being that me and Kaidale are a one parent household/income, I have no choice but to work and provide for us. However, it seems like we always find ourselves up sh*t’s creek without a paddle when it comes to child care. Obviously I can’t just hire any Joe Shmoe or take him to a day care center, he needs someone qualified. And believe me, I’m pretty sure I’ve thought of everything! Am I the only special needs parent that finds this next to impossible?!

    I can completely relate with you because I have a 8 year old special needs daughter in South Florida. You are such a breath of fresh air to see! Your doing a fantastic job as a mom but also shining the light to help others understand the lack of services needed in special education and the challenges we go through.

    Yes!!! Thank you! I am California and it is a struggle finding childcare for special needs children. Daycares often say no to us too. My son has moderate to severe autism and it's a battle finding childcare. I am also a single mom working full time and yes, the befits, the insurance is also something we heavily rely on. Thank you for being real and sharing this much needed topic that needs to be talked about.

    That’s nice that your parents help I’m a single mom of a toddler with ASD and a 14 year old. Family doesn’t and won’t help. Also a nurse but had to resign to be full time with my toddler because Nannie’s always bail on me or aren’t qualified to handle my daughter, having to leave too many jobs suddenly because they disappear so I gave up. Basically losing my mind 😢 isolated, trapped and lost, not sure who I even am anymore. Which I could go run or have any sort of alone time but it will never happen. Everyone says how important self care is but yeah how? Impossible.

    Not to minimize your struggles as a single parent, but we have those issues with childcare too even in a 2 parent household, but that's likely because of it being one income. Was just trying to help you feel less alone and less isolated

    The ending with the toys scattered all over the place reminds me of my daughters room when she plays 😂❤️ prayers for your family that you find a awesome caregiver for your boy! 🙏🙏 this is also one of my biggest stressors when my daughter gets older, I also live in Jacksonville. She is only 3 currently. Also, prayers for your father’s mom 🙏

    I saw the name of your video and immediately felt understood, worry about how I can get childcare for my sons to work and provide for them keeps me up at night a lot of nights, and no one outside of this community ever even considers how deep this issue can go regionally

    Get a springer for your bike. it is much easier and safer to bike with your dog with one of those parts. It is basically a metal part with a spring that attaches to you seat post. It prevents the dog from running in front of the bike and allows them to pull without destabilizing you and your balance, even if they want to chase a cat!. Daisy and josie might like it.

    Hands down, the worst part of being a parent is finding childcare. My family has never lived near any extended family, so we’ve always had to hire a nanny. We’ve had mixed luck. It’s stressful and frustrating. I feel for you.

    That baby picture at the end was adorable. I used to be a school nurse when my kids were in school. I still got great benefits and was home when the kids were home. I also wasn’t a single parent but my husband’s job took him all over for sometimes weeks. You also have the added burden of a non verbal kiddo. I think you have to be extra cautious when hiring someone. My heart goes out to you. Have you tried asking around at his school? Perhaps someone there might know someone.

    I understand your frustration my son is 6 and me and his dad had a big discussion about what to do and thankfully dad decided to be a stay at home dad but it is getting tough for dad now and like you said daycares say no or they want more than I make an hour as a CNA

  • @LifesAHandful
    @LifesAHandful3 жыл бұрын

    You can work with an agency that will pay you to take care of him. being a nurse makes you more than qualified IM a CNA going back to school so I can do this ...or go straight through the gov & apply to Medicaid as a caregiver and see if the state would pay u as his caregiver now sometimes or some states don’t want to pay us mother’s to take care of our kids..due to the fact it is our responsibility, but you never know....I’m 21 and my daughter has Cerebral palsy and I think of this everyday she’s 2 now but I know I’ll be miserable dedicating my life to her and working specially being so young and with a 1 year old son as well😂😩😩 I don’t trust anyone with her anyways ....hope this helps 💕I shed a a few tears for you because I stay up all night wondering how I can get pass the same thing and I’m younger with 2 kids so you DEFF got this👌🏾❤️

I will look into if it is possible to have a childcare center for kids who have autism! I wish I could watch him. I have the patience with children with autism and special needs. My son Joshua has atisum and he's fantastic with children with special needs also. I kid you not. His teachers would have him sit in between the children that would become upset and not listen to the teachers but would listen to my son. I guess because he understands them more and he's tall with a deep voice. Lol 😂. Unfortunately, we live in Chicago Ilinois
