Single Node Fig Cuttings Prequel (and Update) using St. Martin Fig

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

How to root cuttings in sand and update on the rooted single node cuttings one week after being potted in 4" pots. Sorry for the camera angle and some wind noise.
Saint Martin fig reportedly originated in France where an established tree had reportedly withstood temperatures of -25C (-13F) without any problem. No U.S. growers have reported much on it's cold hardiness so far.

Thank you very much for the quick response and for making an explanatory video for all the details I was wondering about. After watching the video, I immediately followed the same method by cultivating several cuttings. I am very happy that I found your channel on KZread. I shared a group of previous videos. We are waiting for more useful and fruitful work. Thank you again.

Hi and hope you are well and many thanks again for all your excellent advice about my fig cuttings. That was much appreciated. I just wanted to ask a very quick question, if I may? One of the fig cuttings is not as straight as I would like and just wondered if I could plant a little deeper when I pot up into a larger pot in about a year? So that would basically be burying the first node above the soil line, as this is where the stem has a slight kink. Thanks again for all the great videos. All best wishes Tim

yes you can add soil around the trunk and figs will do fine, unlike most trees

Hey, nice video. Thank for the information. Two of the best plants I have ever received on figbid came from you and I am starting to see why! I am curious to know what ratio of hydrogen peroxide to water you are spraying? Also the percent hydrogen peroxide you are using?

Hey Andrew! Thank you for the compliment. You can do 3:1 water to h2o2, and just 3% strength from the grocery/drug store. I have a new video coming today discussing it more.

Do you think the this works better than using wet paper towels in a ziplock bag I have cuttings on the way and I’m just having trouble getting cuttings to root I’m going to try two different ways so hopefully I will get one of each to root

I'm really impressed with this method. It also provides a low-impact way of checking your cuttings to see if you have roots. The other method I'm doing this year is almost the exact opposite. I'm rooting in 4x9" treepots and then wrapping plastic bag around the pot and tying it at the base of the cutting. The bad will cut down on gnats and retain the moisture for many weeks.

How long does it take to accumulate the cuttings and do I have to keep them on heat mat after I transplant them or it is ok to place it on top the fridge I’m loosing my cuttings after rooting in fig pop and single node 😢

I keep single nodes on heat mat at 78F w thermostat, in humidity until they leaf out. Single nodes, in my opinion, should be experimented with until you get the parameters locked in. Or as a backup to saving a cutting that's failing in traditional methods. For normal size cuttings, do the comprehensive method.

Is there any particular reason why you don't mix the perlite with the sand and then put the cuttings in this mixture and do you have these under lights or in a darker location?

  • @thenotoriousfig

This was mainly experimentation. I’d probably just do sand now.

Just one node and the stem under the sand. Just the tiniest buds sticking up.
