Single, In Her 70's..She Was OVERWHELMED! We Cleared a DECADE of OVERGROWTH

The homeowner is in her 70's and lives alone. She said the yard got so bad that she just gave up - that it was just too overwhelming. We really loved helping her out and making things nice again.
This yard was a beast! I had to bring in backup for help on this section. It was just too much. I've seen guys have to deal with vines before but this takes the cake, as some were 2 inches in diameter. Unreal!
We worked our tail off for 6 hours and were able to get it done. I had 18 total man hours into this project. Six of those hours by my buddy Mike. I really appreciated his willingness to come help. He was awesome. He's a hard worker and funny. That definitely cushion's the blow on a project like this.

@@stevejette2329 Yep, a little low. Not sure how long it's been that way. Hopefully now the cable company can move it higher.
Roses like this were planted around castles as a line of defense against attack. Old roses have an unbelievable amount of thorns on their canes. This was an excellent job done by you both, vines are the worst! If you don't eradicate them when they first start growing they take over everything!

Hey Mike, when you're raking and the rake gets jammed full instead of trying to pull the excess out just turn the rake over so you are pulling the back of the rake in the same direction as you are raking.

A pro landscaper described this to me as "raising the skirt". Partly because the soil at the base needs air to dry out or it becomes acidic. From rotting, decaying leaves.
Great job! I bet big Mike doesn't volunteer again lol. Wish you boys lived by me I am only 67, widowed and could use the help.
Mike my son played division II football in college. Right lineman 6’4 about 325. Went regional combine and they said he was too short for the NFL. He is a big boy like you. He also got his degree and works full time. Probably a blessing due to concussions ❤

WOW you two guys did a FANTASTIC JOB together. You both showed your brute and Brains working so hard to get those vines out totally amazing. I really enjoyed the cleanup of the side yard because my favorite part of your cleaning is when you trim the lower branches on a tree or a bush and it opens up the whole yard so you can see and makes the yard look much larger. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Answer can be pretty simple - shovel/snowblow/plow for the elderly that can’t. Make snow sculptures. Fix ice dams for free. Offer free jump starts during cold snaps. Plenty of opportunities.

Great job! Might just be an old shrub rose. Not wild. But I’m glad you saved part of it. It will recover and thrive if there were enough leaves left. You need a bush hog whacker with a round or prop cutting blade for woody undergrowth like that.
