Battery connections to 2 switches confuses the heck out of me. I liked your simple explanation. My Grady Marlin has 4 batteries but they don't devide into start and house. Some house is on each bank of 2. Drives me to distraction. Wish they would isolate the functions. 2 engines, 4 batteries and 2 switches. Sheesh.

I tried to do something different with the 5 minute Friday but it was to hard to do when I am always working. KZread is a living organism. Always changing and evolving. Like the creators 😅

@@JustinLeeMarine yea, I noticed you stopped doing those. But that’s the way it has to be..you just figure it out as you go along. The KZread thing has to work alongside our jobs. Changing ideas from one episode to the next is just the nature of being a KZreadr I guess 😅!

For this schematic to work and charge the house battery the switch must be set on combine. This is set up to carry the house load if the starter battery is fully charge and the acr redirects the charge to the house load not the house battery. So if the switch is set on combined the house load and the house battery are both connected.

Nice and short and informative-I’m digging Five Minute Friday. How difficult would it be to add a second house battery, and would the system just recognize the added storage capacity?

You could add a battery and it would never know the difference. Just doubles the Amps available.

Hello so im new to all this and boting if i just always have it on ON will it charge both batteries? And when is it recommended to put switch on combine batteries. Reason i ask already got check engine light on due to low battery and one new battery drained to where it damaged it

Great video...really explains it. I have a few questions. 1. The way that is setup, it's going to automatically charge both batteries, right? When the engine is off, the isolator will only be using the starting battery when starting, but when it senses a positive charge coming in (from the engine's stator), it will open and allow charging to both batteries. Do I have this right? 2. Can the 2 batteries be different types? For example, a flooded starting battery and an AGM deep cycle battery? Thanks.

You do have that correct and they can be different type batteries for the house/engine.

Not sure if you are still monitoring this but appreciate the video! Do you like or dislike removing the acr and running an auxiliary lead to the Yamaha 200 for the backup? So both batts can be charged while powered? Thx!

I like running the aux lead from Yamaha. It works the same way without having to wire more stuff. Good question and Merry Christmas 🎄

Hi. Thank you for this informative video. Now when I get home and have switched the ACR to Off. The green light flashes every 15 seconds standby mode. Will this drain either battery if the boat is not run for a few weeks?? How can I overcome this parasitic draw?? How did you wire the on off switch to completely turn off the ACR when away from the boat???

You just have to wire the small power wire and the main power wire from the ACR to the common on the battery switch. Then it turns off with the battery switch. The little LED light takes a long time to kill a battery. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you are leaving the boat for over a month without a battery charger.

Where do I hook up my ground wire ?? I haven’t really looked. Boat at lake but I’m gonna put a relay on my 2 battery system ?

You can hook it to any ground as all the grounds should be connected in the boat. 😊

Sounds "similar" to the Blue Seas Add a Battery kit. They call it an ACR....automatic charging relay. Does BS make the VSR?

should the power switch be in the On or Off position while charging batteries?

I would keep the batteries off all the time unless you are using the boat.

Hi, I have 257 fishermen single engine with 2 batteries and 1 switch selector for 1 2 and 1+2 batteries, I’m going to install a battery charger which battery is the house battery

They are both house batteries. Just depends on what one you choose on the switch. You will just need a two bank battery charger.

We have the same set up. But after 15 minutes can't start the motor without switching to combine. New boat, new batteries. Twin simrads, jl audio system. Wtf??
