About Singin' in the Rain:
Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor star in one of the greatest musicals ever filmed. Musician Don Lockwood (Kelly) rises to stardom during Hollywood's silent-movie era--paired with the beautiful, jealous and dumb Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen). When Lockwood becomes attracted to young studio singer Kathy Selden (Reynolds), Lamont has her fired. But with the introduction of talking pictures, audiences laugh when they hear Lockwood speak for the first time--and the studio uses Selden to dub her voice. Set during the advent of "talkies," this film classic song-and-dance numbers celebrate the beginning of movie musicals.

They showed us this movie for our intro to film class, because it’s a really interesting study in film history being told in film that is now history to us. This line had the entire class weeping with laughter. Amazing delivery!

“Sure. Any way it’s comfortable. But *INNNNTO THE BUSSSHHH!!!”* 🤣🤣🤣
Jean Hagan is an absolute legend, so funny as Lina. She stole the whole movie!
I don't blame that director for cracking at the end. Pretty sure it was a tough transition for almost everyone in Hollywood. 🤣

You bet. It’s really the best classic.
This is one of the best scenes in film history. I laugh so hard every time at the end. Except they cut the scene off right before you see the director’s exasperated face.
Watched tonight with my children. They are usually very distracted by smartphones, but these classics are smartphoneproof!
Jean Hagen is fantastic as Lina Lamont!

That line must’ve been added in post because when the sound man "says" it and shakes his head, you can tell that his mouth isn't moving at all.

Absolutely the best scene in this movie!!
Amazing we can hear the clap board outside the soundproof room.
Man, I feel so bad for that director. This is seriously frustrating for him. 😅
Best movie ever 🎉
Perfect cast
I love her ❤
The director's talking to Lina like she has no object permanence.
Great movie.

We'll think about what was going on, it's 1927 and "talking pictures" is completely new technology. Also, keep in mind that the the movie industry was still pretty much in its childhood. They were learning on the fly

As an A2 this made me feel so seen
my DM for Dungeon and Dragons has a problem with leaning away from the microphone and also rocking back and forth when things get exciting, and I had to shame them today by link this video and saying "talk into the bush!"

It's 2024 and live sound guys are still having the exact same problems with speakers. Smh.
How much longer before the director had to be ordered by his doctor to take a nice relaxing holiday on the riviera?

And I can't stand him

It sounds to me like he’s been explaining it a few times though based the fact that after the first failed recording that we see the director says “don’t you remember? there’s a microphone right there in the bush. You have to talk into it.” That probably means this isn’t his first time he’s had to explain this. People may not get too mad about it the first time but would likely get frustrated if they had to explain it over and over again.
