Bonding over food my mother cooked is my top childhood memory. She was from Louisiana and had 13 younger siblings. She always cooked more than enough for the meal. She was the reason I loved vegetables at a very young age. In high school my friends loved to be invited to dinner. Kelis reminds me that my mother cooked from her heart and that’s why her food was so delicious. Rip Momma, I miss you a lot❤️

I'm thinking of all the amazing and trend-setting outfits and accessories Kelis wore during her musical career. And even here within the context of her culinary passion, she accents her story with this cool plantain shirt, matching green nail polish, hoop earrings. Older, more "mature", and less flamboyant perhaps... but still so creative and stylish.

We had a farmer that we called watermelon because he would bring all types of fruit and vegetables but what stood out most was his SEEDED watermelons. Man do you know how hard it is to find a watermelon or a cucumber with seeds these days.

I think it's a damn shame that oxtails have become somewhat of a delicatessen. Like Kelis said, it's something the wealthy would throw away, but black folks perfected and made them flavorful. It's a shame something that was thrown away, something poor folks found useful for consumption has become soooooo ef'n unaffordable now. Oxtails usually have a generous amount of meat on them, as well as sometimes larger bones. Because of their weight, and folks who could give two f@cks about eating them then, now desire them. Many people now can't afford them and/or like myself, refuse to pay the asking price per pound for them. Same applies to chicken wings, short ribs, and pot roast. Bougie folks would never be caught consuming such things. Now, the desire for these foods are making them overpriced. My, how quickly foods that were common for poor folks to eat have become outrageously over priced. It's a pity. The amount of money generated from the sale of these foods by those who have seen the opportunity for exploitation is just sinful. SMGDH!

It's that way about everything. They never want it until WE make it look good, taste good, add swag to it and etc... with clothes, dance, music, style Periodt! But THEY do not like giving us credit for anything. It's sad and terrible how THEY steal from us and go upsell it times 10. Tell the real reason why!!!

@@beemonique8466 PLUS SHORT RIBS and HAM HOCKS!!!!! Damn when I was a kid (back in the 50’s-60) chicken was expensive so we had oxtails and short ribs, neck bones and other cheap cuts of meat and a hell of a lot of green, grits, beans, turnips, corn potatoes, okra peas and chicken once in a while, fried, or as chicken and dumplings were a special dish on special days, like Sunday, or a picnic. AND YOU better NOT leave no meat on that bone. My folks ate the Gristle, lol You could hear my aunt Clyde and grandma chewing that gristle from across the room!!!
