Also I've just realised my tension dial doesn't seem to move the discs in like my 185k so I'm going to have to find someone that can rearrange them so it works 😮‍💨

Thank you so much! I rescued a 401A yesterday and unfortunately, the manual had been lost. I cleaned, oiled, & lubed this jewel and thought I'd have to replace (yikes) the tensioner until I found your video. Hooray! Success! The stitches on this machine are beautiful. Really appreciate your help.

Same here, also have a 401G, haven't used mine in years and never fiddled with tension. Problem solved in a few minutes. Thank you!

Hi! I have a 401 and the stitch from the needle is okay but the bobbin one is not looping with the needle...have cleaned, oiled, rethreaded, change bobbins and same problem persist...any clue, advice? Help!!!!

this is happening to my singer 401A as well. I've also serviced and cleaned and oiled and done the works but still the bobbin thread doesn't really want to work correctly. were you able to fix yours? what was the issue?

I have a 401A...love it but i am making a bomber jacket for my daughter. I have never had a problem with thread before . I have my tension even on 0 and its not running through the tension discs. Yes im still very much a novice!!! Please help i don't know what I've done!!!

I own 3 401a. and I cannot understand why they all seem to want to ride at an 8-9 tension. I am not a novice to sewing, that's not a brag, just to state 20+yrs. in seamstress work. I also have about 10 other sewing machines. so why such a high tension in my 401s? I have wondered for a long time if the tension assembly was wearing out. I have successfully sewn with these machines, but cannot understand the tension being best set so high.

were you able to figure out the issue? I am currently having tension issues with my singer 401A. I can't figure out what it is! I serviced it and everything (myself with the help of KZread).

@@tatianaortiz9858 I too was having tension issues. I rethreaded the machine as this video demonstrates and now my machine is stitching beautifully. Hope you have the same luck. Mine is extremely happy at 5.
