Singapore's Semakau landfill more than half full, expected to hit full capacity by 2035
Singapore's only landfill, Semakau, is more than half full. The plot of land, which is larger than 650 football fields, has two parts. The first is nearly at maximum capacity, while the other is around 10% filled. Semakau was built to hold enough waste to fill 11,200 Olympic-sized pools. But with over 2,000 tonnes of ash and non-incinerable waste sent there every day, Semakau is expected to reach full capacity by 2035. Sustainability experts said the only way to extend the island's lifespan is to educate people on how much waste they are creating.

Could use the landfill to create sea wall.
Keep increasing the population and the government complaining that we are producing more waste
They can shift to another island;Pulau sebapakau.
Singaporeans are wealthy and enjoy shopping.
Use this to refill east coast plan extending east coast park, and for other islands too.
We gonna have 6.9 million people soon, we are to be blame for landfill!
Why the experts are becoming clueless on how to increase and expand Semakau Island?. Why not expand its size or increase the landfill height and it might extend it life by another 50 years?

cannot increase height, it must be below sea level, incase of rain
At about 1.27, the reporter said we produced about 7.5 mil tons of waste last year. About half of that was recycled but "majority of the remaining was incinerated". So basically we recycle 50% and incinerated 50%? How is that a bad ratio? Have you checked the ratios of the so called more advanced countries? EU and Japan for example are less that 50%. CNA, can you be more balanced in your reporting pls?

How to balance? Govt got iron grasp over our media. Singapore number one in many things in the world but press freedom isn't one. Any news you take from local media need to take with not a pinch of salt but a huge ladle. Overseas the govt scared of the media. Singapore the media scared of the govt. Can kena POFMA and shut down. Cannot expect local media to be like that of overseas.
Hidden cost of too many people
To be honest i never knew or heard about the Island Semakau until i watched this today. All i ever heard about is Salakau 😂
The island looks so beautiful. Where is the crisis? Doesn’t look like there is any crisis. Nothing to worry.
Import less.
What else to do in Singapore but shop? It's pathologic there.
