Singapore Airlines Plane Hits Deadly Turbulence: What Happened? | Vantage with Palki Sharma

Singapore Airlines Plane Hits Deadly Turbulence: What Happened? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
Singapore airlines flight en route from London hit a severe turbulence on its way to Singapore. The plane fell 6,000 feet from an altitude of 37,000 feet in a matter of three minutes. The turbulence was caused ten hours after the flight's take-off, and it triggered critical damage to the 200 passengers and crew aboard- with a 73-year-old British man losing his life. The airline has apoligised for the incident, and the Singapore government has initiated an investigation into the matter. Experts, however, are blaming climate change for this event. Experts claim severe turbulence has increased by 55% over the last 40 years, while moderate and slight turbulences have seen an increase by 37% and 17% respectively. Palki Sharma tells you more.

Descending 6,000 feet very rapidly is very dangerous and very alarming. Those passengers were given a second life. It's not yet their final destination.

The 6000 ft descent is likely the emergency descent by the flight crew to get out of the turbulence that was at 37000 ft. With the speed brakes extended the aircraft can easily descend more than 4000 FEET PER MINUTE in a controlled descent. The turbulence that caused injuries was probably all over in 10 seconds or less at 37000 feet.

@@ramyasawkar7494 It’s pretty straightforward. When u need to go (to the toilets) - just go but the moment you get back, just buckle up. It need not be a super tight fit on the belt but it will stop you from being thrown into the ceiling. Meanwhile the pilots are always doing their best throughout the flight to detect and avoid any turbulence. Considering the millions of flights per year, these really extreme turbulence events are still few and far between.

All credit to the captain of the flight first and then to his assistant crew members for managing the malfunctioning aircraft well enough in turbulent weather conditions and averting what could possibly have been a major catastrophe. The captain deserves official recognition, at least from the airline if not from the government, for his flying competence and abilities, and navigating the aircraft off distress in this untoward incident.

As they say; any landing when the Aircraft is in One-Piece is a Good Landing.....I am sure this Incident would be thoroughly:- "Looked-At" by all Parties Concerned. However; by any Lay-Person Human Standards; it must have been a VERY Frightening Experience. Thank Goodness these Incidents R very Rare. So; when the Staffs says "Buckle-Up" your seat belts......"Buckle-Up" your seatbelts! Full-Marks to all the Professionals both in the Air and on the Ground! The question is couldn't that turbulence be predicted beforehand.. and why do pilots fly through such regions where turbulence is there..? obviously thanks to the pilots but I have been in such turbulence where the flight dropped but not to this extinct but from that day I feel that the airlines and pilots should be accountable for it

6000 feet in 3 minuts is not a steep descent. that is arond 2km height in 45km distance. That should not make anything like this. Some facts are wrong. A passenger said it lasted 10seconds. Some comments said 10sec and 200feet. That is 70m in 2km distance even that is not a big deal. Surely the info is not accurate.

Why can't airplan seats have airbags?

Do you have enough brain power to imagine the cabin of a plane completely filled with inflated airbags? Plus the residue of the power charges. I understand the world is filled with snowflakes who would cry baby tears about their "freedoms" being taken away, but as any seasoned flyer will tell you - and as all flight crews explain - wearing your seatbelt during flight is the safest way to fly.

Why does the airline have to apologize? It's not anyone's fault that turbulence happens. It's just something that happens and no one has control over it. I pray that those injured make a full recovery from this terrible accident.
