Sing along with The King's Singers: Abide with me

Музыка

Whilst things aren't quite back to normal for choirs around the world, we're sharing this series of videos to help you get back in good voice with some famous choral repertoire. This hymn - titled 'Eventide' - is a beautiful, simple, four part masterpiece, by the composer William Monk and poet Henry Lyte. We hope you enjoy singing or following along!

Patrick Dunachie - countertenor
Edward Button - countertenor
Julian Gregory - tenor
Christopher Bruerton - baritone

Although I myself am a Christian, I think you don't need to profess Christian faith to appreciate this hymn. Listen to the words, for example. Anyone who can feel sympathetic for human suffering will love and cherish this song. Absolutely one of my favourites. Thanks King's Singers for sharing this. May peace be upon us all who are here listening to this. 🎉

This hymn belongs to the Catholic tradition! It is used in Germany under the name "Bleib bei mir" and in Italy "resta con me signore".

You should listen to them singing "Esti dal". It's an older recording with a different lineup but they sing it so nicely (as you would expect). Also the baritone has such a good Hungarian pronounciation. Ugyanitt bojler eladó (ez amolyan köszönésféle a fiatalok között az interneten, akkor szokták írni, amikor valaki nemzetközi weboldalon Magyarországról beszél, nem árulok igazából bojlert :) )

My mother went on to be with the Lord when I was only 31, after cancer that returned from 10 years prior when I was in college. I am so glad my wife and young daughters got to know her, even if only briefly. I will never forget this hymn at her memorial service, nor at my father's that followed 16 years later to join her in glory. The greatest gift they gave me was a loving Christian home, my baptism, and where I was raised and taught about God's love through Christ Jesus our Lord. Whether in life or in death, my Lord will always abide with me.

Thanks again for singing this lovely hymn. It was sung a month ago at my younger brother's funeral Mass. I will forever listen to this lovely version.
