I just realised that Sing & Sing 2 are pretty dark. Johnny got disowned by his dad. Jimmy tried to kill Buster, TWICE! Jimmy was also emotionally and verbally abusive to Porsha, not caring about her feelings when she got fired and only caring about his reputation.

Sing 1 and 2 are the darker Illumination films. They use more mature themes than other films.

The near lack of dark aspects in their other films is probably my biggest issue with Illumination. They're not the worst studio, they could just be better. It's also why I liked the Sing movies best, since unlike movies like Despicable Me or The Secret Life of Pets, Sing isn't afraid to explore dark aspects.

@@RealSirMikay Yeah, its even crazier when you realized that sing is the most down to earth film Illumination has ever produced. think about it... You have characters like Johnny who lives a life of being part of a criminal gang who turns to singing which is something hes really good at. You have Ash who is trying to be a good girlfriend to her boyfriend Lance who is doing nothing but being a toxic and insufferable prick who never gives her a chance in the first place. (Verbal abuse really and the fact he cheated on her makes it so much worse.) Then you have characters like Rosita who is a mother of 15 or so children who does everything she can to provide for her family while her husband goes to work and essentially misses out on the beautiful job shes doing. Then you have Sing 2 where we get characters like Clay Calloway who is depressed and has cut himself off from the rest of the world for over a decade because of the death of his wife. which is extremely realistic especially for a loving husband. And you also get Porshe who at first seems to be a spoiled brat but in reality, is just someone who is adventurous and brave and willing to do things that she has never done before, despite the fact that her father verbally abuses her in the film and only cares about himself. Then you have characters like Jimmy Crystal who are only there for their pride and they only care about themselves and Jimmy Crystal has shown that he doesn't even care about his own daughter but his reputation instead. You don't see concepts like this in other Illumination films. Sing and Sing 2 are the only ones that have a real sense of reality and life's not all its made out to be. hopefully more films like sing get made by Illumination but you know... its Illumination.

Sing (2016) is more lighthearted but Sing 2 (2021) that’s a dark movie in a lot of ways. For example Johnny’s teacher fighting Johnny in the middle of a circle of fire, Jimmy Crystal trying to almost kill Moon and Clay Calloway’s backstory.

exactly, i think he’s the purest alongside with meena. i mean, even though he had people being mean to him (at first his father then his teacher in the sequel) he has always been kind. the author of the video says that he had tried to steal the money so he ain’t that nice…EXCUSE YOU?!? he only did that for his father who has basically disowned him after discovering what his dream was 😤 the poor kid had no one to guide him but himself and he always did good

@@brynncess2228 Even if Johnny try to steal the prize money, he only did so he get enough money to bail out Marcus(his father) of jail/prison. Johnny truly does not have any corruptive qualities to him. He is just misguided between helping his family and wanting to sing.

But when Rosita saw Buster in danger, she had the courage to save him. Even if Mr. Crystal did made Rosita fly in one way or another, I don't think he actually "help". Keep in mind He wanted to kill Buster no matter how. Also, during that scene when Porsha flies, Jimmy doesn't even notices her. Heck in ONE shot, we see EVERYONE looking at her, except Jimmy.

@@chrisguara that’s true he doesn’t even care about his daughter he’s selfish and careless. She sang like an angel trying something amazing and he didn’t even bother to look at her until she was done with the jump. Before when buster was a little scared to let her do it she said “daddy he won’t let me jump” and it’s so specific they choose that line over anything else. Buster showed more father figure then jimmy ever could. He said “let her do the thing” meaning he doesn’t care about what she’s doing and just wants her out of his hair. If she didn’t have the safety strap on tightly she would have gotten hurt really badly. If that happened I know that jimmy would blame buster. This really shows he doesn’t care for his daughter any other father would tell their daughter to be careful and would watch the whole time to make sure she is safe maybe even record to show her later in years - if he didn’t go to jail and become and terrible person later on. If porsha didn’t tell jimmy about buster “firing” her then he would have been a little nicer towards him and anyone else - seeing as his reputation is still good.

Jimmy is definitely one of the most evil recent animated villains to leave an impact on me IMO. As was said, he’s extremely egotistical, self centered, and cruel, but the scene that really drove it home was the scene when he saw his daughter Porsha visibly upset and crying after a misunderstanding about being fired. Instead of comforting her, he proceeds to verbally and emotionally chastise her by saying “would you be quiet, you’ve embarrassed me enough!” as well as “now the whole world thinks I’ve got a talentless loser for a daughter!”. And I don’t know if it’s just me, but I saw the scene afterwards of her crying in her bed not now from the misunderstanding of her “firing” but from the latter scene of her dad’s verbal abuse and lack of love towards her in that moment 💔 When the former part came up in the theatre, my jaw hit the floor. I heard some gasps as well. I was *not* expecting that kind of cruelty especially towards his own daughter. Bobby Cannavale did an excellent job voicing him though, I felt the intimidation perfectly.

I want to say I think Porsha is honestly one the the best characters. She means well but can be a little on the dumber side, though I do think she’s an incredible performer.

@@nicholasstansbury6848 I actually imagined that Jimmy Crystal would actually be somewhere in the top along with Sergei, El Macho and even Balthazar Bratt. In terms of Crystal being powerful on top of the title and power that he gets as a media mogul, he has been shown to be very physically strong when he's angry (despite him not being physically big and bulky in muscle) as shown when in a ton of rage shoves a few thing off his desk when yelling at Buster, "NO ONE MAKES ME LOOK LIKE A FOOL! NO ONE!" and when he receives the news that Buster has escaped he is able to smash open doors and even knock over even the heaviest statues and before his final attempt on killing Buster when his cat assistant Jerry tries to free him, Crystal is also strong enough to even kick the gates open with his foot. In terms of brilliance, he would be ranked somewhere in either Average Folk or College Bound as he has been shown to be mentally unstable with how much anger and power he lets go to his head as shown in this conversation between him and Buster. Jimmy Crystal: I've got you now, you lowlife, little loser! Buster Moon: Loser? I'm not a loser. We did what we came here to do. And there's nothing you can do or say to change that. Jimmy Crystal (followed by a little bit of an evil and cynical laugh and heavily breathing): Oh, I can do whatever I want! Crystal's mental breakdown before making his final attempt to murder Buster Moon.

I think it's a little unfair to rank Suki so low, since she's basically scared of Jimmy. Also her actions during the climax show that she clearly was in a really abusive situation with her employer. I think it's fair to say he was the main reason she acted the way she did, because she probably feared his wrath.

@@therealopaartist I feel like that’s the reason a lot of the shows Suki sent to Crystal were boring or “ordinary” to him was because she didn’t want him ruining another talent cuz he might of got offended by the littlest things, overreacted and straight up did what he wanted wit them.

I saw Sing 2 yesterday and Jimmy was very intimidating, I wouldn’t be surprised if some younger kids watched this movie and got scared because of him

Wait what about Ash's ex-boyfriend Lance? Didn't he cheat on and abandon her for that other girl Becky? So isn't he a bad guy to? Obviously not one the most evil but still Lance broke Ash's heart. Not only that but he doubted Ash's AMAZING musical talents.

A detail you forgot to mention about Big Daddy is that he and his gang got out of prison supposedly for good behaviour as they’re seen doing community service. This goes to show how BD was willing to turn over a new leaf and become a better man not just for Johnny but for himself as well.

Klaus is definitely in the bad to evil area because of him humiliating Johnny in his performance and getting mad at Johnny just for messing up and lying to Johnny when he promised to eat his hat but he’s still an evil

I am so glad meena and Johnny got in the good area since they are my 2 favorite characters from the sing franchise and especially since I felt bad for the issues that they had to go through with Johnny's part with helping his dad with his stealing business and wanting to become a singer in the first film to learning how to dance and fight right and dealing with his evil mean dance teacher and on meena's part with overcoming her stage fright in the first film to trying and finding romance and trying to talk to her crush alfonso in the 2nd movie also I am so glad porsha didn't go in the bad and evil area I mean sure yeah she was a usual spoiled rich daddy's girl but at least she realized that she overreacted a little and redeemed herself and finally joined the cast in the show and stood up to her dad during her performance and I also really hope we get a third sing movie aka a sing 3 I really want a sing 3 come on illumination entertainment make it happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And also I still don't know why Mike didn't return for the sequel along with the rest of the cast because the last scene we saw of Mike is when he and his girlfriend were trying to get away from the bears so did they get eaten by the bears or did they survive and got away from the bears we need to know.

this franchise is a perfect formula for a good to evil list. a lot of sweet good characters, a lot of very evil characters, a ton of gray zone characters. And a lot of characters period!

I hope sing 3 happens. Edit can not wait for sing 3

when I first saw Klaus' critical and harsh demeanor I just reminisced from my short time on a music theatre school, since I could see how while practicing, even the sweetests of teachers would become hollywood directors. Still, Klaus is actually a villain for trying to humiliate Johny ON STAGE. like, performance teachers may be harsh, but they respect that while on stage, things cant and shouldnt be corrected on the spot

Klaus reminds me of an incomplete blacksmith whose teaching style is to hammer his pupils til they improve but doesn’t go further then that teaching through pain. This method of teaching doesn’t work for Johnny and it’s through Nooshy that the foundation that Klaus broke down was able to be built up and reinforced by her.

I'm so mad that Mike is in gray characters. He's SOO mean to everyone! Especially the first scene where he's literally robbing an asthmatic. And how is Klaus more evil than bears gang?

Jeez imagine if Jimmy Crystal was the villain for the trilogy going totally wild and blinded by rage towards the entire Moon theater crew! That movie would probably get dark as hell!

When I saw what rosita had to go through in sing 2 i have to say i can relate to that because like rosita i also have a fear of heights and I don't like being up in high places but like rosita I sometimes manage to overcome my fear of heights so yeah i don't really blame rosita for having a fear of heights.

I love both of the Sing movies.

i would honestly say that buster moon deserves a grey area, he did try and manage to sneak in to the theater in the 2nd movie, and not to mention he lied about 10-15 times to Jimmy Crystal. Despite that, I believe he is a good koala, if it weren’t for him delivering a good show, he wouldn’t have shown a virtue of care and charity for his audience and employees

Meena is a total sweetheart and definitely deserved the gold for good. I think The Russian bear mob and Klaus should’ve switched places. The bears tried killing Mike and his girlfriend while klaus didn’t hurt anyone. But still what he did to Johnny during his performance was pretty bad. Jimmy crystal ABSOLUTELY DESERVED THE GOLD 🥇

@@thesheto8962 Honestly, I think Carly's character as a teenager is fairly ranked as neutral because even though she is young, she's failed to be anything but good in her record of relationships. Her standards are kind of low and shallow, and she's not very accepting of certain things in a romantic sense- this is especially noted in the "iDate a Bad Boy" episode.

I would have to agree that Jimmy Crystal was the most evil Character of the list which he had proven that he is willing to hurt others over his ego and go after anyone over a misunderstanding when he'd thought Buster fired his daughter Porsha when in realty Buster was only trying ask her to switch her role with Rosita. Jimmy Crystal kind of acted like a ruthless Las Vegas Mob Boss who you wouldn't want to cross paths with.

Let’s not have Buster cry because he’s at the bottom, let’s let him be happy because Kyle gave him a spot in the good.

Note. There is not an end credits scene in the second movie, so if anyone is wondering if Mike is in the sequel at all, he’s not. He’s not even mentioned

Sure sucks we didn’t get to see Mike and Nancy again in the sequel. Who knows? Maybe the bears ate them? 🤷🏻‍♂️ Either way, I didn’t like him, so I’m glad he’s gone. 😤

Finally, the Characters from the Sing series from Good to Bad has finally arrived. I’ve been waiting for this for a very long time since the characters from Good and Bad from Zootopia, The Land Before Time, The Jurassic Series and even The How To Train Your Dragon Series. I definitely enjoy the Sing Movies from the first movie from 2016 to its amazing sequel which is a awesome Christmas gift for me known as Sing 2 and possibly the best movies I’ve ever seen in the year 2021 in my opinion.

I saw it last night

I never saw Big Daddy's turn around as seeing Johnny's potential, instead I saw it as him realizing that while angry that Johnny was part of the reason he ended up in prison, it wasn't worth breaking his relationship with his son. So much so, that he breaks out of prison, knowing it will worsen his sentence, just so that he can tell his son how much he loves him. Hopefully repairing the damage caused from his previous harsh words.

Kickenklober's business card picture looks like he is about to strangle the camera man.

i think the most nice character is a tie between Rosita and Meena.

15:10 It totally works to call Jimmy the Big Bad Wolf.

Porsha is like Charlotte from the princess and the frog because they may be spoiled rich daddy's girls but they actually have a good nice caring heart and we need more cartoon rich girls like them.

Rosita should be first. It's not because Meena is soft that she is a better person than Rosita, who does much more for her family and friend than meena does (which is normal, she is still a teen)

2:28 “so that buster didn’t get hurt” I think he might have been a little more than hurt but whatever floats your boat ig lol Edit: 8:33 I would also like to point out that even when ms.crawly made the mistake that she did, Buster still never fired her and never raised his voice at her. Of course he was frustrated and was in a panic about the fliers, but he didn’t yell at her and didn’t belittle her or anything

I see Buster Moon, Rostia, Ash, Johnny, Meena, Gunter, Miss Crawly, Eddie, Nana Noodleman, Nooshy, Darius, and Clay Calloway in the Good section. Good for them. I would give Porsha in between the good and middle section. Mike in the middle. I see the Russian Bears and Jimmy Crystal in the Evil section. Jimmy is far more evil than those bears.

I agree with you, Gerard on Porsha. She's between the good and the middle section. She can be spoiled and she overreacted one time, but nevertheless/nonetheless, that still doesn't take away the fact that Porsha is a cute wolf and more nicer than her dad Jimmy.

I know how Meena feels. I have a large amount of stage fright, but sometimes I do sing aloud, in front of strangers.

I might change youre mind. After rewatching sing 2 i understand why suki lane didnt want moon to be in the auditions because she loves there show and didnt want to crush there dreams because she knows that jimmy crystal is a bias and no matter how good moon can be jimmy wont accept him so i think she deserves a bronze in good thats why she also helped moon.

Gunther has the level of confidence I think we all strive for

I have to wonder if she's gonna take up residence in Calatonia in the third movie, let alone if she appears. (P.S., they are making a third movie, it just hasn't really been produced yet and the release date hasn't been confirmed yet, but hopefully soon, and maybe if we're lucky, the writers will come up with a good enough excuse to bring Mike back!)

In Sing Characters: Dumb to Brilliant Rosita would be somewhere in the Geniuses with her building the machine that takes care of her family, this shows that on top of being a good singer, Rosita is also a girl of science.
