The way you know she's a great singer is the instruments barely have to do anything. No guitar, no bass, just some strings, simple drums, and a little piano. All the rest is her voice. And the video is so captivating because of her beautiful eyes. It's like you can see right into the depth of her soul.

What made this especially difficult to watch was the conflicted emotions in every note. This is her dedication to her very abusive mom, in every sense of the word, who died before this. The pain parents inflicted in their children cuts deep and lasts a lifetime. Unforgivable.

Sinead O'Connor is from my country, Ireland. She started performing in the late 1980s when she was a teenager. This was her first big hit, a cover of a Prince song. But she made it her own. Her grief is so beautiful and we can feel her pain because of her voice and the close up shots of her grief-stricken eyes. Beautiful reaction. The greatest reaction you can have to this song is tears, tears.

Great pure and truthful reaction. This is what great art can do. It can touch on and let out emotions we didn't know we had buried inside. Sometimes an emotional reaction like this just says it all. This song so powerfully cuts deep and raw. Sinead takes us to a place we've all been but we revisit it with her, we see her pain as our own, we see her let her tears fall as she gazes back at us unashamed of letting them fall. She embraces every bit of the pain of the process as we bear it there with her. There is in some way something so beautiful about it in this sense. While the song is about losing someone you love deeply... what it gives us is something more important... that is the affirmation that feeling all of those feelings is exactly what makes us human. These are things we all feel. If you can connect to her so deeply... a complete stranger... then you can or I can connect to anyone if we truly want to be courageous enough to be so bold to show our hearts. The song is about heartbreak but it more than anything inspires me to show my heart as a person. Let your emotions show, own your vulnerability and your emotional challenges and don't suffer alone nor let others suffer alone. You'll create an infinitely more powerful human connection with anyone in life if you can bear your soul in front of someone like Sinead does to us in this video. Show and own your humanity; all our lives would all be so much better if we could all be courageous enough to do that. Great reaction!

Prince wrote it. Sinead made it her own! It came out in 1990, and hit #1 not long before I graduated from high school. I still remember the first time I heard it. It started playing right after my alarm went off on a school morning. At school, another guy asked if I heard the song on the radio that morning. He was also loving it. I knew it would be a #1 hit. Sometimes you just know. :)

Most reactors try to keep the emotions at bay. Thank you for your honest reaction to this hauntingly beautiful, profoundly sad song and video. I'm more of a heavy metal fan to be honest, but I do appreciate quite a few of Sinead O'Connor's songs. Here are some of my favourites: "War": An adaptation of a Bob Marley song she performed live on Saturday Night Live to protest child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, infamously ending her performance by holding up a picture of the pope, exclaiming "Fight the real enemy" and then tearing up the picture. I will always adore her for this. kzread.info/dash/bejne/imSK0siifca2gKQ.html&ab_channel=stickymarx "Troy": Official Video (studio track): kzread.info/dash/bejne/Ypdo2JmfoJitc5s.html&ab_channel=Sin%C3%A9adO%27Connor. There are a couple of live performances featuring just O'Connor and an acoustic guitar which I find even more compelling than the Official Video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y6CKlJODZ5jcdqg.html&ab_channel=Sin%C3%A9adO%27Connor; kzread.info/dash/bejne/fJl9qryvirewhMo.html&ab_channel=polly. "Drink Before The War": Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any videos of Sinead performing this one, but there are some audio recordings on KZread. Live: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hohrmbiYirCcgbw.html&ab_channel=KevinGaudet; Lyric video w/ studio audio track: kzread.info/dash/bejne/kaRpuJJpo7iomKw.html&ab_channel=MicaelaVillalba. "The Value of Ignorance": This is a 1988 concert released on video tape in 1989 and now on KZread. I can't possibly overstate what a fantastic performance it is. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mq6E28qCoJCtm5c.html&ab_channel=MozoRael.

She has done some great songs, this was written by Prince for a band on his own label called The Family. When he heard Sinead's version he called her and basically gave her the song. I highly recommend you listen to her albums. She is a great songwriter as well , this song shows Prince's genius as well as a stunning voice. Such a shame she hasn't been able to enjoy a happy life. She's amazing

Actually, this song is about the child she lost. That is why she said, "I can put my arms around every boy I see, but it will only remind me of you." The second part is about her losing her mother.

If you've never loved deeply, and suffered loss, this song means nothing to you. If you have, this song tears your heart in two. I get your reaction, Maureen. Another song you might relate to is WHY by Annie Lennox. The official video is on YT.

Actually people, why this song hits everyone, has nothing to do with her mother, it has to do with hurt and heartbreak from her relationship around this time, as she got pregnant and the aftermath caused by her thinking of abortion vs not abortion due to her recording and record deal, it destroyed her relationship at time, but she decided to keep baby and work out relationship , this was also addressed in the emperor’s new clothes song, all in all, it was her being so young and going thru getting pregnant and dealing with anger and a breakup, which is why she can get behind words in song.

Originally written and recorded by Prince in 84 but he never put on an album. Gave it to her in 89 I believe. Some of Prince's hugest hits, he gave away to girl singers and girl groups. Vanity, Sheila E, Sheena Easton, Stevie Nicks, The Bangles, were some of them.

He didn't give it to her, the record company allowed her to cover it because at the time they owned all of Prince masters. He never liked other artist covering his song, cause he said once another artist covers your song people no longer believe it's your song they believe it belongs to the artist who covered it.

This is a cover of a nearly unreleased Prince's song (he wrote it originally for a very minor release that nearly nobody knew) so it can be considered the original one. Many years later Prince started to sing it in some shows and there are some tracks with this versions that have been released after he passed away.

"Nothing Compares 2 U" is a song written and composed by Prince for his side project, The Family; the song featured on his eponymous 1985 debut album. The song's lyrics explore feelings of longing from the point of view of an abandoned lover
