Simulation and Visual Representation of Tropical Cyclone-Ocean Interactions

Tropical cyclone (TC) winds vigorously mix the upper ocean. This mixing provides energy to the ocean driving large-scale circulations and variability (such as El Nino). Quantifying the effect of TCs on the ocean is important for understanding how climate is changing. A high-resolution global ocean model sensitivity experiment was used to isolate the effect of TCs on the upper ocean. We show results for one year with and without TC forcing.
