He probably staged the entire escalator ride to conform with the Simpsons scene, complete with the drop of the sign in the background. I'd bet on it. He is always doing stuff like that. From St John's church, to crossing the DMZ, to dropping in on the troops unexpectedly, to greeting hostages he rescued as they arrive at 2am.
