SIMPLY WOW !!! HUGE 55% PITTS CHALLENGER 2 AEROBATIC RC BIPLANE
Combined with a ZDZ 250cc petrol engine this kit built model from www.skipmodeldesigns.co.uk by Burt Skipton, and flown by Robbie Skipton, can do any aerobatics that an RC pilot would want. The model has wingspan 3metres and weighs in at 30kg.
Filmed at LMA Cosford Show using the Panasonic AG-UX180 4K pro camcorder by 'Dom Mitchell' of Essential RC KZread channel.

It’s like a freedom you can feel through your thumbs. It’s amazing. If everyone flew RC there would be world peace.

I love seeing slow motion with smoke harrier because you can see the way the air gets deflected by the elevator.

Jaw dropping flying and great filming skills, with such a large scale plane it gives a rookie like me the chance to see how the pilot works the sticks to achieve those great manoeuvres , Big Thank You

Great flying aircraft and with a very confident pilot. 1) What smoke system does he have in it? 2) Would be great to have at least some kind of pilot figure, even if it's only a 2D cutout

it's an awesome model. Personally I don't like the 3D flight and I would prefer to see the plane just flying aerobatics as it was real. My opinion.

And a valid opinion, too! A 1/2-scale model looks best flying big, bold, horizon-to-horizon 1/2-scale aerobatics. It's got the mass and the momentum to look superb; the rolls and flicks and radii are all totally to scale. I think the model may have a bit too much power, though. I can understand the (highly skilled!) pilot's desire to play about with it, but it doesn't seem quite right (to me) to treat a scale model like a 3-D trick plane. Nothing wrong with 3-D trick planes, of course - but why go to so much trouble and then break the spell by flying 'impossible' manoeuvres? Still a terrific beast, though!

An interesting flight. Very little if any snap maneuvers and almost no high rate rolling. Shawn Tucker is constantly rolling and snapping. Maybe just the preference of this pilot.

Beautiful plane. I'm just curious why be off and on the throttle so much, especially when he was doing those roll?

  • @EssentialRC

Because if he was on the throttle constantly it wouldn't roll high alpha like that

@@EssentialRC So the torque from the engine is a big factor in making it roll? On a full scale plane is is it like that too or mostly aileron? It's interesting that RC planes seem to have a much higher power to weight ratio than full scale planes so a lot of things are different like take off distance and now this torque factor

@@souocara38able Yes and them being overpowered allows us to perform aerobatics most full size wouldn't be able to. There are exceptions obviously. A small number of full size display pilots can do amazing stunts but not as close to the ground as we do.
