Simply Woodworking - Let's make an end-grain cutting board out of pine!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

They said it couldn't be done (no they didn't) but we gave it a go and I got to use my blowtorch, so that's a positive isn't it? Plus I break a personal record in using 5 (yes, FIVE!) power tools in a single project. They said that couldn't be done either, but they were wrong about that too (again, they didn't say that)!

The blow torch effect was great - loved how it brought up the rings in the pine wood. Also glad you didn't burn your woodworking shop down!

Nice looking chopping block. Guess it won't hold up very well being made of pine? Like the blow torch finish though. You have given some ideas for future projects. Cheers

Years ago when the first Wal Mart store opened in my town, they had problems with shoplifting in the power tool area. They got someone to build a bunch of hinged doors with 2 x 4 lumber frames and wire mesh panels inside of them to keep the power tools locked up but visible. Every inch of those 2 x 4’s was “torch scorched” like your cutting board! I’d never seen that before, but it looked really neat! Being a welder, I have a bad habit of setting things on fire, so this might be a technique I need to look into! Ha!

great stuff, you got a lot of kit in there! Can I recommend the Japanese saw rasp. Its a hand tool but great for shaping stuff. Even works on oak ! Really sharp and might just help you smooth off your sides roughly at first. Has it seen action in the kitchen yet?
