From the 'Stars' album, Mick wrote this song 15 years before becoming a father himself, about people around him having children for the first time. For Your Babies was included on the band's 1991 album, Stars, and reached number nine on the UK Singles Chart in February 1992. Stars is the fourth album by British-based pop/soul/jazz band Simply Red, released in September 1991. Five singles were released from the album, including the UK top ten hits "Stars" and "For Your Babies". The album was a worldwide success, particularly in the band's home country where it has been certified twelve times platinum.
Simply Red have over a billion hits on KZread, have sold over 60 million albums worldwide, 5 going to number one in the UK. Their 1991 classic Stars was the best-selling album for two years running in Britain and Europe. They have had two US Billboard chart toppers with classic singles Holding Back The Years and If You Don’t Know Me By Now. Every Simply Red studio album has been a UK top ten (with previous release Big Love reaching number 4 in 2015). Hucknall has been the songwriter and bandleader since the beginning in 1985.

I guess this is my favorite Simply Red song by default since my brother and I are in this music video! The blonde girl with freckles deep in thought in the beginning and the tan blonde boy to the right of Mick a couple times and then asleep mouth open at the end. I was a little to old age wise but they made an exception because my brother was there and I was small.....so thank you whoever made that exception!
I'm in this video, the smiling young boy near the middle front at 0:09. I'm told that I constantly tried to fight Mick during breaks in the filming and that he thought it was pretty funny.

This UK artist's voice is amongst one of the best I have ever heard. I use to be more into soft r n r now more into pop and when I found Mike Hucknall singing, "You make me feel brand New" I was hooked, transfixed and I listened to him from then on. That was about 5 years ago. Forgive me for my late find but I treasure the day I did. Him and his band light up every day. Thank you Mick and your band for the fine musical entertainment. I love the lyrics of this song. It’s about how parents feel about their children. A part of it dedicated to mothers. A part of it dedicated to poor people. I don’t believe in many things but I believe in my mum!
I listened to this for the first time yesterday (a particularly hard day) and being a sleepy mom of a threenager, this song made me cry on the way to work. It's so beautiful - just what a mom needs to hear..... #OnRepeat

Nem era nascido e aprendi a gostar com minha mãe. Hoje tenho 25 e escuto pelo menos uma vez no dia.
Me faz voltar aos anos 90, tinha 14 anos qdo essa música explodiu, alguns sonhos pela frente, uns consegui hj, outros não, porém, reconheço que era bem melhor viver naquela época

Tem músicas tão bonitas, inesquecíveis... Passam-se anos, décadas e elas não saem da memória. Adoro essa música! 💜
After a tough day pregnant and looking after my toddler this came on the radio, I sat down, heard the lyric "in many ways your baby's controlling...When you haven't laid down for days" and burst into tears, crying throughout the rest of the song. Wish I knew the exact meaning behind the song, it is so utterly beautiful, almost like a nursery rhyme.

+JGalP Mick wrote the song for his friends and band members who were all having babies/had small children at the same time. They were tired from their new parenting roles but he thought/told them that they were just great at what they do - family and music wise.

Tenho lembranças boas dessa música. Em 1992 ela tocou muito nas rádios aqui do Brasil. Lembro que a noite ia dormir e o rádio relógio ligado, estava essa música tocando. Eu estava na primeira série, tinha apenas 7 anos. Saudades dessa época.
