I was a preteen when this movie aired back in 1979 but I didn't see it until they ran it again in February of 1980. I immediately fell in love with the story, the actors and the performances from the cast. The soundtrack goes along great with this coming of age tale and the trials and tribulations of first love. Take it from someone who is old enough to remember the times: They were indeed the best.

Oh my gosh, such memories! I dated John Denver, and he would sing to me infront of hundreds of people, and they would all turn around, or look over, depending on where I was sitting, and some women would acost me later, demanding I tell them everything. What a wild ride!! Love great musicians!!!

Was in love with an older boy, who played in a band. This hit all the notes back then, was reminded of the movie title today and downloaded it. I remember all the words to the song 😢 happy memories

I LOVED 🥰 this movie & the soundtrack was fantastic…Rex Smith was so talented & he really should have rose to higher musical 🎤 🎶 heights..he had a beautiful voice. He did end up co-hosting ‘Solid Gold’ with Marilyn MaCoo.

I was so in love with him when i was little. I remember this movie!

I watched the movie (just once) and read the book back when it came out, and I was Jess' age. I haven't heard it in 40 years, and I wanted to see if I remembered it correctly all this time. I hadn't forgotten the words or tune at all. It branded itself onto my brain. It was a powerful moment.

You're right. The 70's was the last decade where a teenager could be innocent and wild at the same time. Since then, it's all about the craziness where teenagers are wannabe thugs and sl*ts. Part of the 80's had some innocents but it was declining.

This movie shaped an entire nation. Truly powerful

Sooner or Later was my all-time teen made for TV movie. God I loved that show and would watch it whenever it came on. I have purchased it several times because I lend it out and it never makes it back home. Well worth it. Rex is so handsome and so talented. ♥♥♥

Denise Miller reminds me of a girl I SHOULD HAVE gone to high school with had my parents not moved me away! Fortunately, although this girl and I didn't end up together, we recently reconnected on Facebook and became very good friends who are genuinely happy for the other. She had a bad first marriage as did I, and both of us got it right the second time. The best part is the four of us, her husband, my wife, and the two of us have become great friends.

The funniest part of my friend from school is when we reconnected on Facebook we found out she lived half a mile from my parents' house on the one street my mother restricted me from going on, and she has the exact same birthday I do. She's older by 8 hours. Yes, I tell people I had a secret crush on a cougar in the fourth grade.

This really is a great movie. Too bad you can't find it anwhere. Just 6 years after this movie it was my life. Senior in HS and my GF was a freshman. I was 17 and she was 13/14. I was a musician (drummer/piano/guitar). She was flag line. I ended up working for her mom as a tennis instructor at the club. Her parents even took me to Disney World with them.. They wanted us to get married....but that wasn't meant to be.. :( But this movie does make me smile and I love the music. Still have the original Album.
