When I was starting out with watercolour I had decision fatigue with what paint yo buy so I bought the exact colours you use and a year and half later I ve only had to add 2 extra colours. Thanks so much for sharing tips and advice that has saved me so much time and money 🙏

Hi Jenna. I LOVE your videos. I wanted to share a trick that worked great for me when I first set up my pallet. In order to get rid of the smooth coating on my plastic I used a baking soda and water paste. I lightly scrubbed my whole pallet including the paint wells and dried it thoroughly with paper towels. I hit it with the hair dryer for just a minute to make sure there was no moisture anywhere and then put my paints in. It worked like a charm.💖

I’ve used soft scrub with a toothbrush and just gentle scrub. I’ll have to try baking soda!
I like how the orange just settled in like it was home.
This video is a lifesaver! I am one year into watercolor with you, Jenna, and this has been my main problem as of late. So THANK YOU!!!!
This was so helpful. As a newcomer to painting, I enjoy all of your instructional videos. Keep ‘em coming!
Good information all around, particularly letting paint dry. This would allow one to travel with a palette using carry on luggage. Given travel may be within our grasp again I'm glad to know this.
I love that you do rainbow order, because that's how I do all of my colors with watercolor, pencil, etc. Thank you for this! I'm currently working on a new palette so this is so helpful.
great !!! never did watercolors before, was using wet out of tube big waste didn't know how to set up -this was fabulous!!! thank you!
This was exactly what I needed. I was curious as to how this was done. Thank you very helpful. 😊
Jenna thank you so much for putting out all these videos, they are invaluable! I was getting so discouraged then discovered one of your videos a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been in love with watercolor painting since. I ordered one of your books and I can’t wait to dive in. Thanks again, what a blessing you’ve been to me.

I inherited tube watercolor paints from my granny - now I know what to do with them! thank you, I found this VERY helpful. :D

Very helpful. Only been painting for 2 weeks and reluctant to get the good paints. I did invest in the nice size 16 round you use though. Thanks
Re: paint beading up on a new palette - I tried using a fingernail buffer and it seems to have worked well. It was a cushy file that feels velvety smooth, not gritty like sandpaper. The different brands would call it different things, so I don't want to give specifics. I tried it first on the little area near the thumb hole that Jenna shows - I figured that I probably wouldn't use that for mixing much, so if I ruined it, no loss. It worked, so I lightly buffed all the mixing wells. Hope this tip can help someone! I love this channel! I'm new to watercolors and learning so much! Jenna's color sense is a lot similar to mine. :-)
I discovered your channel last night. I have never used watercolor and you explain and demonstrate everything very well. I’m waiting for my supplies that are due Wednesday. Just putting brush to paper is my goal this year. Thank you.

Great info girl. Love your work
So satisfying to watch paint getting squeezed out from the tube! 😅 I will try the glue stick hack. Thank you! 😁
This is super helpful, thank you!
I don't normally comment, but thank you so much for the glue stick trick! It was beading so bad and it made me not want to use it. Plus some of the paint was just dropping out of the wells! I did the gluestick trick and cleaned the palette out and it worked perfectly!

It's quite interesting to see how people are setting up their palettes. I was setting up mine: black (or paynes grey), earth tones and then the rainbow order starting with yellow. I washed my palette with soal and used a magic eraser to prep. (I don't have any glue sticks anymore and this was the only option I had.)

Thank you, Jenna, that was super helpful. I have a pretty good grasp of things by now (a lot thanks to your videos!) but organizing a palette has been frustrating for me. I feel overwhelmed by all the colors & I know the pros say you don't need all 200k colors, but this makes me feel more secure about which ones to focus on. I already have about half! 👍

Thank you for this! I set up my first watercolor palette exactly this way and have been loving it. And for the first time, I need add more paint to some of the wells. Do you wait until you've used up all the paint or can you add to the rim that's left? Thank you!
I took your workshop in Chicago a few years ago. I use your same setup and paint recomndations to this day! You also taught me to not be so "type A" with keeping my wells perfect. One of the best tips I've received on jumping from color to color.

Thank you, Jenna!!! After paints are placed in the palette, do you close it? How long do I wait until it's time to paint? Your video is concise, and wonderful!! Thank you!😘👍💖🎨
This is a very helpful video! I was wondering about cleaning the palette. Do you ever clean out the colors have mixed, or do you leave it there? Thank you!

I like to pre-prep my palettes (plastic and enamel coated metal) by scuffing them with #0000 steel wool, rinse the dust off then use a disposable eraser cleaning pad on them. The eraser helps remove any oils from the surface. When finished, what I have is a dull satin finish on the surface. I do this in both the paint wells and mixing trays.

Hi Jenna! Very helpful video, thank you! Could you please explain why did you choose Lemon Yellow Deep from all the yellows available? I haven't seen this colour before in other artists palettes. Is it really granulating as described on Jackson's Art site? Many thanks in advance!
Great Video. Thank you. I was wondering if the Phthalo Turquoise should be next to the green and the warmer Cobalt blue next to the Violet?
Loved this video thank you for making art easy for us. One question. Can we do the same for poster Colour?
Great tutorial on how to set up the palette. I saw at 1:50 that you mention that this isn't available. Just an FYI, they sell them at BLICK, I only know as I just picked up three of them. They are great palettes, as they have the sloping wells, that I happen to like and plenty of room for color loading. Thanks for sharing your wisdom as always.🧡✨🧡

All the colours are soooo satisfying 🎨💛🧡❤️💚💙💗💜🖤 Yeah I prefer pastels like lilac instead of “purple” 🤪, I’ve never tried ultramarine violet, Instead, I have ultramarine blue and mix pretty purples with opera rose

Thanks for this helpful video, I have thought about how to set up a palette, and like You said my idea was to do it like rainbow. So, it will be my mission, cause I noticed I wanna mix m6 own colours and don’t need all the ones I bought. Not that I throw them, but I won’t replace them, and I wanna set up a travel palette and then I wanna do it in this order.

Hi Jenna! Any good tips to prevent cracking of drying or dry pigments in the palette? 💚💛💜
Nice tip about the glue stick, colour beading has been driving me crazy!
Hi Jenna! Super helpful video :) What is the name of the bright blue color you have in your other palette (well #7 from the top left)? I think you mentioned in (several of) your other videos that it's Pthalo Turquoise, but the Pthalo Turquoise you're squeezing out of the tube in this video is a different color.
Aloha Jenna what brand of glue stick are you referring to to stop beading? How do you remove the glue prior to using the palette?
Thank you for the video. I'll definitely try the glue stick trick because that beading phenomena irritates me
Hi, I'm New to your videos and I'm loving them so much. When creating the palette with colors, I have the 28 well palette. After putting in paint do you leave open overnight to dry then use? Will paint be hard?
How long does it take for the paint to dry in the wells and is this time affected by leaving the tray open Vs closed.
Nice 🥰
Thank you so much.

Hi Jenna, Im new to painting with watercolour, could you please tell me which colour water jar would I use when I use my brown or black paints. Im trying to use your suggestion of one jar for warm colour paints and one for cool colour paints, and Im not sure what black or brown would be considered?
I’m a beginner searching wich colors I will have in my palette, so it was helpful. I also like the tips with gluestick, I will test it 👌🏼

Try it out! It has worked for me!
Your showed us a plastic pallet but referenced a porcelain pallet for your desk. Would recommend a porceline pallet for home use? I have small ones but wonder if investing in a larger one would be productive.
Great information!!! I have way too many watercolors of all colors and brands. I am a WC addict LOL attracted to many colors and though I do mix some colors I am not quite adept at it. I think I would be a much better watercolor artist if I had stuck with a limited palette like this of 12 colors and worked from there. I like all my choices but it does get overwhelming.

You are a watercolor addict, Renee, I love your comments!! ❤️❤️
Could you please tell us what colors you would use since you switched from Windsor Newton to MamieriBLU to make a comparable palette?
I found the plastic pallette on Amazon 1/24/22 yay!
Love your colors and palette. I have already copied your set up, ... I think, and it works well. Truth: I do have other palettes; however, I do love the colors you use. I think I may have used toothpaste to get rid of the slickness of the plastic. Thanks for your helpful hints. I'll try the glue stick.

Ya! Toothpaste works too! I love these colors, I can’t get enough. I’m glad you like them!
Does the watercolors stay soft or do the harden? Hiw do i keep them from hardening? And if wet, di they spill ?
Hello! How do you keep the colors from “popping out” when you open and close the palate? Some of my colors don’t stay out once they dry?
What made you use this type of tray/palette instead of those individual pans that can be popped in and out of palettes?
Hi Jenna! Do you only use tubes or do you use pans too? Does tube paint dry like pans?
Not a palette question, a paint question. I was silly and bought my Prussian blue in a pan. It is set so hard I can barely get it to reset the colour is so weak and the little bit I could get going had flakes in the pigment. Any tips to reset a stubborn colour?
Wise advice. Unfortunately, I want many more colors (same with my collection of fountain pen inks). Thank you!

I totally hear ya! The vid I linked at the end shows all that you can get out it only THREE colors! You can do a lot with a little!!
Is Yellow Ochre the color between Cadmium Orange and Lemon Yellow Deep?
What are the pros or cons between plastic and metal pallets?
So what's a good alternate for lemon yellow deep and thalo turquoise? Neither of these exist anymore in this brand.
good video :-). I'm a little confused about the order of the colors. The order you wanted to do is roy g biv. Why is scarlet red on the outside and not exchanged for opera rose? The scarlet is more of a red than opera rose and could therefore be better placed next to orange than opera rose. Why is the turquoise between violet and cerulean? it would be more logical for me if it were between Prussian blue and permanent sap green, because it would be the greenest blue in your palette and fit better between these two colors than between violet and cerulean.
Hi I’m just getting into water colour painting and am loving all the clear instructions that you are giving us. I have 1 question about this video. You say that you don’t really like the purple and that you don’t really use it. So it begs the question, why have you included it in your pallet? Thanks again, I’ve learned a lot !!!
@JennaRaineyChannel
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ann, I'm so glad you're loving the tutorials! Although it's my least favorite color, I still recognize I need to use it sometimes. Some paintings may just need a touch of purple. Also, I do a lot of product designs for different companies and I have to follow color palettes they provide (which may include purple).
I’ve looked everywhere for that 12 pan folding palette. Do you, or does anyone have a link to it? Thanks:)
How do you keep all of the other combinations that you've pulled out into your tray from getting into your new paint that you choose. Do you have to wipe it clean every time?
How do you paint with dried watercolors ?
What are the two holes for?
How long should you wait before you use the palette?
Jenna I’m new to painting and made my own pallet a few days ago. My problem is my pallet isn’t drying. They’re still wet and I want them to dry. It’s been almost 4 days. I had the pallet slightly closed bec I read that you don’t want dust and hair to go on them. How can I make them dry already? Anyone has advice?
Jenna! What brand of watercolors do you use? 🎨 Gracias.
Yes they still sell the original one you had they sell it at Blick of course I'm in Rhode Island
This video was extremely helpful. Thank you. I have issues with the beading AFTER I prepped the wells with a glue stick on each mixing well. This is frustrating because I certainly don't know what to do to alleviate this problem. Does this not work if the glue stick is too old?
@JennaRaineyChannel

So glad this was helpful! Not sure about an old glue stick, but as long as it still had normal glue stick qualities, I think it’d be fine!
