    Trent, I like the way you had Roberto visually check that the 5th wheel was properly latched to the kingpin. That's the way I ALWAYS did it and taught trainees to do it. There's nothing like "seeing" it to be safe.

    I had no idea that I needed videos of towing things in my life but these are far more compelling than I ever imagined. I hope I never need your (or a colleague) services but I hope they all look at your operation as a standard to achieve.

    throughout of my career I worked for 6 different trucking outfits ....all of them had same policy ...if truck is broke down never separate it from trailer. If it had to be separated it's must be done with approval of towing company and by licensed towing professional.

I can't even help my farmer friend anymore because of my bad knees. Oh well, such is life. Typically, how much would a tow like this cost a person / company? (if you can tell us here, that is)

    Always love these big truck video's. I have seen truckers with a trailer and two pups just maneuver, back up and unload each one as if it was a single. Never ceases to amaze me the common sense and skill of these drivers! So here I am looking at this video and seeing beautiful spanking new tow truck and semi with hardly a spec of dust on them. But in this day and age with computers and camera's/dash cams, why don't you install a dash cam either in front or behind the plate to easily align with the king pin????? takes the guess work out of it! Have to admit, that is one well equipped heavy tow truck. Very impressive.

  • @OverKillPlusOne

    @OverKillPlusOne

    Lisa b you don’t need it. You line the whole truck up with the trailer, and unlike a gooseneck or bumper you’ve got quite a bit side to side before you miss the throat of the fifth wheel. If you have to (and this is a baaaad thing to do, great way to break landing gear) hook from not straight on it could help, but if you get into that situation it’s time to chew out the driver who dropped it like that.

    Just a suggestion to make retracting a landing gear easier... dumping the air bags was right, but as soon as you feel the fifth wheel touch the kingpin pull forward a few inches, inflate the airbags, then before coupling, crank until the foot is just barely off the ground. Then couple and finish raising the gear. This reduces the chance of lateral forces making it harder to crank up. Let the truck do the work for you.

    Ive been a heavy duty tow/recovery driver for over 20 years and just want to say, Well done,but in my opinion, you could have just blocked the rear wheels,and no digging out would be necessary. It saves a lot of time.I know your training the new guy an all.Just a trick of the trade.I mean no harm.
