simple shoemaking: How to make custom simple shoes and lasts, using your feet as the forms
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This is a new take on making shoes without using lasts - as you will see while watching this video, your foot becomes part of an ensemble of materials that create a credible model of a custom last.
This video gives you an overview of a simple shoemaking process that is described in more depth, with variations and patterns, in my book: The Simple Shoemaking Handbook, available at: simpleshoemaking.com/product/p...

Hello, Mr. Padilla! I am a beginner, who would love to be able to see some of your work; do you have a site or someplace where I could do that, please?
I just ordered your book and I can not wait to get started! This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. (These red shoes are "clutch my pearls" beautiful.) I've found companies that make simple shoes but never in my size. Now I can have my beautiful shoes, in my size AND I can have control over design aspects that are important to me!
I wear a women's size 12/13. The last place that sold shoes in store in my size was payless. Thank you so so so much for this tutorial. I hate shopping online for shoes and now i can make shoes that i love! I'm so excited and have already started dreaming of ideas!
Gorgeous shoes, a calming detailed vid teaching patience as well as shoemaking. Inspirational. Thank you Sharon
Thank you for this video. If there is anything I hate it is shoe shopping. I have wide feet and I end up buying shoes that I hate. Now I can buy my own leather and make my own with a style that I like.

I found a wide shoe store near me a few years ago and the owner is aging and i truly hope the grandson doesn't close it down. I have to travel 45 minutes but its a needed trek. Me and my whole family go there once or twice a year and get new shoes. They're expensive but much worth it. There's a runner in the house and he needs new shoes twice a year. The only running shoe we found that he like are New Balance.
Haven't finished yet, but if you used expanding spray foam on the inside of the duct tape last you could make a last. A little epoxy or wood filler and you've got a hard sculptable last.

Just wondering if you tried this yet and how it turned out

Yeah that’s an interesting idea. How would you do it? Spray the foam inside the tape casting and also add wood filler or epoxy into it at the same time you suggest? Or coat it afterwards once the foam cures?

Sharon, you are so patient. This was a great tutorial, very detailed.
It's people like you who built this great country of ours! Great Job!
Ive never made anything to wear. I just watched the whole vid in awe. Amazing job!
Loved it. I remembered back when I was young and did fair contest for 4-H in the craft division. If I had had a mentor like you or done something like this, I know I would have won.
What a beautiful shoe! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with the world!
Hi Sharon! Thank you for your patience to put these videos together (I know it's not easy!) and your incredible generosity for sharing your knowledge and experience. I've picked up so many tips just from a couple of your videos. All the best!

I wanted to thank you so much for this video. I have wanted to make my own shoes for a very long time but could not find enough detailed information before this video! My large feel got bigger in recent years and shoes became very hard to find. I was able to make an awesome pair of black Mary Janes after watching this. I had to tweak the pattern a number of times but ended up with one that works. I want to make more pairs but need to find a more dense foam/sole that will give me better support. I am so grateful that you have passed along this wonderful skill!
Thanks for posting. My feet have splayed beyond the widths available from commercial sources. Custom shoes from a cobbler are out of my price range. You've given me a great introduction to the techniques involved. Now I just need to adapt them to men's rowboats.
Can't believe I found this video yet!!! Making my own shoes was my dream from the time I remember! Thank you sooo much!!!
this would help me a lot, i was looking a video to help me make a shoes that will fit me so excited!! eehhh i just need to find time to do this !! thank you for sharing this

Thank you for your tutorials. I will use them in the near future when I'll start making a pair of shoes on my own.
thanks for sharing..love your work sharon
Sharon, so glad I stumbled onto your videos. I've been so frustrated trying to find flattering yet comfortable boots, haven't bought a pair in years. hoping this will be the perfect stepping stone toward that. Really motivated because I also ride a motorcycle, but haven't been able to find a decent pair of safety boots in a woman's size. I also have a son and a nephew who can't ever find a large enough size in anything that's decent and comfortable (sizes 14/15/16 wides).
This is a great idea. My husband suffers from his feet being different, I am going to try this for him.
They look sooo comfortable, gorgeous!
Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom. I pray you are blessed for it❤️

Sharon great idea for making a pattern ,did you ever think of getting a tracing wheel it would help save you an enormous amount of time without taking away from workmanship. Any good leather shop will have them for sale.

Beautiful! And my favorite color is red... I wanted to pass along to you that quite by accident I have found a number of sole materials on line and some even retail through Amazon. I ordered some crepe rubber to put my sewing machine on, but it is intended for soles. Many others though.

There is nothing wrong with appreciating craftsmanship in anything, and men obsess over good shoes too such as bespoke Italian dress shoes. In the age of nike and adidas where polymers and cheap plastics and glues are used in virtually every shoe, everyone is looking for quality footwear that is custom made.

Those turned out absolutely fabulous! This video was good for lowering blood pressure as well. I always had my casual shoes handmade in Laguna Beach California and I love them but everyone kept stealing them so I had to have like five pairs made every year!
