You are one of the few photographers I actually learn a lot from by watching your videos. Many others only show their photos and a video of how they took it. That is also fun to watch, but learning through videos is the key reason to prefer watching a video over my own discoveries in the field.

I really love learning the steps you take Adam. You make photography fun not spending hours behind the computer on a single image. Your photos are amazing and thank you for these tips!

Thanks so much for this encouraging video! When looking at other peoples photographs on Instagram I started to feel insecure in my editing, because like you I only did very small adjustments to enhance the natural look of the scene. Of course it helps to have the knowledge how to use Lightroom and Photoshop in detail, but in the end we only use what the photograph really needs. Your video is like another well fitting puzzle to the last videos of Alister Benn, that encouraged me to enjoy my own work and process instead of producing somthing others might like.

Thank you, Adam. Hot tip for finding the white and black clipping points is to hold down Shift and click on the word. Sometimes doesn't work well for B&W images, but otherwise a real time saver.

Great video. I always try to err on the side of simplicity

I almost didn’t watch this because I thought it would be about lightroom and photoshop, and I use darkroom. But I’m glad I did, because it concentrates on the ‘what do I need to do’ question, which I struggle with, and less on the ‘how do I do it’ which I can get from the manual. More like this please.

As always very enjoyable and useful. A special request! A couple of years ago you and Alister processed some of your followers Raw files completely independently. It was great to see your different interpretations and how you each went about processing the image. Would absolutely love to see you do this again! Thank you.

They say if you live long enough, you see almost everything happen that you didn't expect. That image around 24:00 ... you'd really messed it up in that TIF you made so flat... lol The last bit you did on getting that sunlit pop back in it restored my total faith in your imaging... :D GREAT video... lots of photo students should watch this several times - so easy to harm the image....

Lovely work and enjoyed watching your process, to me the Antarctic shot appeared to be a little more effective with the Iceberg being that little blue ship on its own alone in the sea with the far horizon closer to the original grey colour.. All subjective of course and many others no doubt will have a different opinion.. Look forward to seeing some more of your output 🙂👏

How did you add contrast to only the foreground tree?

OH OH you forgot to push the saturation slider a lot. LOL Interesting to see some of your processing and the finished results.

I noticed you did not use the luminosity masking function in Lightroom. What do you feel are the short comings of the Lightroom luminosity masking tool?

Im more used to luminosity masks in PS to be honest, I just find there to be more control.

In the first image, I’m not sure why you didn’t do a sky mask and invert it for the ground to increase the whites. Also, you could have done a gradient mask for the ground. Or a Liminance mask intersected with n inverted sky mask. It would be interesting to see the difference between these techniques and a Photoshop mask.

When processing images, what percentage are you using lightroom vs PS? Just curious...thanks in advance.

70 Lightroom, 30 PS

I always find it interesting to see how photographers/artists interpret a scene and what catches their eye. I get the impression that you view a subject much as a painter would, have you ever painted? After post processing the images look more "painterly" for want of a better word, highlighting and perhaps emphasising features that caught your attention. After your short video on the GF 20-35mm zoom I now have to decide whether to keep or part exchange the 23mm.

Haha I'm in the same dilemma, sell the 23mm or keep it.

Do you have any suggestions for getting prints? I haven't found a place yet since moving back to BC/Canada to get good quality prints (framed or not) done and I have a few people requesting them again. I'm not sure if you do all your own in house, but I don't have that option at the moment.

Adam, a quick question....I noticed your raw files were captured using Adobe RGB color space. I know the image is rendered in whatever color space you've assigned in your post processing editor, so I'm wondering if there is an advantage to capturing the image in Adobe RGB vs sRGB? Thanks.

RGB has a wider colour gamut than sRGB

If it’s flat, I don’t take the picture.

The longer I’m involved with photography the less I process images. So often over editing ruins excellent images by ignoring the feeling of the landscape.
