Outstanding instrumental tune with Derek and Michael ! Wow I still love this in 2024 !!!

I remember when they dropped this at one of the Astoria nights (London UK) back in 1989 and the place went awol, amazing experience. Am sure they dropped it at a couple of the large warehouse parties (raves) that went on back then as well, same thing place went awol.

Derek Forbes is one of the greatest bass player ever 👍

A fool's errand, you say? Knackers to that, this is a stunning piece of work on brilliant source material. Not only stitched seamlessy, but your additional effect stabs are just inspired. I was so disappointed when that seven minutes flew by. We need to kidnap those multitracks and hand them over to you. Oh, and your credits - brilliant; I love infinite Beat and restraint. As a geeky drummer side note, I've always wondered if Brian did a take with his snares on, and what that would have sounded like. He certainly inspired me to try snares off on a few recordings I did - which peplexed the engineers somewhat :-) Brilliant band, superlative version, thank you.

Hey Karl, thank you for your comment! It's gratifying to hear/read that some of the details didn't go unnoticed. But then you have a musician's ear (yes, drummers are musicians too!). Is there any way to sample your recordings, snareless or otherwise?

@@110BERLIN_ Funnily enough I was just listening to Empires & Dance today with fresh ears after listening to your versions, and what you said about musician's ear (you're too kind) As you've turned comments off on your version of This Fear of Gods, I'll have to take the liberty to praise it to the skies here :-) You've kept the darkness, and added beautiful chaos with the dubbing effects. That whole album has so much space left in it (well, apart from I Travel and Twist/Run/Repulsion) that there's scope for tasteful additions, and that's what you've done - adding to the layers, but never cluttering - I may have ears, but you have the touch. With pleasure, have a listen to some of my work - and I'd appreciate any critiques. @@krg1965 That's some idiosyncratic drumming right there. Love it! Sounds like it's non-linear, but I might be wrong. You sound great, Karl! As does the whole group. Very good tune, too. Emma's voice is outstanding as well. Any plans on playing in Germany? Checking out a live video, I noticed you play open handed. Are you actually a "southpaw" who plays a right-handed kit (like Copeland et al do)? PS: Thanks for alerting me to the deactivated comment section. No idea what happened there, but it's back on again now.

@@110BERLIN_ Very well spotted :-) Yes, I'm a natural lefty. When I got my first drumkit, I just set it up the 'proper' way that I'd seen on Top of the Pops, as I had no other reference. Riding the hats with my left meant I naturally played open, even though I had no idea that's what it's called. Trying to play ride cymbal with left was too much of a stretch, so I taught myself to play ambidextrous. As to playing Germany, I'm coincidentally half German, most of my family still in Nordfriesland (wi snackt Platt :-) My cousin did try to get us a slot in Kieler Woche a few years ago, but didn't quite manage it. I'd love to play a gig in my Heimat... one of these days. Are you on other social media? I'd like to send a message about a possible project for you.
