Love all this stuff.... I remember long before t'interweb....having to browse the ads in NME ...Sounds and Melody Maker.. Having fallen in love with the sound of this band .. an ad would say "live tapes... simple minds , u2, bunnymen etc" ... you sent an SAE (stamped addressed envelope) ...and after a couple of weeks a list of gigs would drop through the letterbox... audience recordings... fm broadcasts...Werchter....Pink Pop.... Torhout. Festivals .quality ratings that went A ...A+ ...B... A ++...you sent a cheque and after a few more weeks postie brought a package... excited hands opened it to find TDK or SONY tapes in home made dayglo paper sleeves with a piccy of the band photocopied on it and venue and date on the spine along with the quality rating........ in to the cassette deck it went....and out came " premonition" ..."thirty frames a second" ..." the american " and " love song"... wow...bring back the 80s

***** I remember it like that as well Tom. That must be around 30 years ago now! I think I found 2 good suppliers of such tapes and just stuck with them. Real fans themselves and not in it for the money. A big thank you to them from me. All the best Tom and thanks for leaving feedback.

@@garyandrewimrie687 I love all that stuff mate , there was a chap called Stuart McFarlane from Glasgow who sourced the best recordings , I wonder if those sort of people are still about ? So good that all these years later modern technology brings it all back .

I am sorry but I have never heard a recording of the Rock City 1981 gig. That's not to say it doesn't exist. Indeed the setlist of that particular show in Rock City, Nottingham, like all the shows performed in Sept. 1981 is quite interesting with songs from Sons and Fascination/ Sister Feelings Call rarely played live. I believe that a recording of that show exists in Mp3 format and in very good quality. The person who set up the site www.simplemindslive.com supposedly has it. I wonder whether the website in question is still active because I have tried to contact Bart - the person who set it up - but I've got no answer so far. (the site may not have been updated for the past two years). Oh, well, once again, thank you for sharing with us all those great Simple Minds shows! Note: I posted another same request in the comment section of Dortmund 1989. You may disregard it since you just answered it here. Have you tried a request for the concert on the Simple Minds Group on Yahoo? groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/simple-minds/info Maybe you would have more luck on there. Hello Art & Talk, Bart's website may not have been updated for the past two years, but he's alive and well. He's just sent me the recording of the Nottingham 1981 show.... I'm both happy and disappointed: this is an audience recording alright, not the worst one, but not the best one either unfortunately. Sounds a bit distant and muffled. Well, it's better than nothing of course... Anyway, if you would provide me with a contact address, I would be happy to forward that file to you. Who knows, you can perhaps work your magic on it....
