Simple Minds Paris 1986 Unreleased Recordings from City of Light
Музыка
Simple Minds performing live at Le Zenith in Paris for the live album "In the City of Light" 12th August 1986. Not all songs performed that night (or the following night) made it onto the album. Other songs were 'trimmed' etc. Here are 4 songs that did not appear at all.
Hunter and the Hunted (different arrangement, wasn't in the usual set list)
Come a long way
Speed your love to me
All the things she said (the biggest surprise ommision, in my opinion).
A new arrangement for "New Gold Dream" appeared on the album which was only performed live a few times. Maybe they had the same intentions with "Hunter and the Hunted" and later changed their minds about including it.......

Unlikely to happen. At least not any time soon. A few years ago they brought out a box set of "Once upon a time" and the live album. No extra tracks from the live album!!
Thank you for the missing pieces
I didn't know songs were missing....
@YCSMusic2 Well I overplayed "Don't you". I wore the vinyl out! I rarely upload versions of it for that simple reason. The 'ballad' version of "Book of brilliant" things is sublime! Cheers Steve!
Thank you for this toptonychick ! It's a pity it doesn't sound a little bit better . The pictures are great !
People are going on about these being too fast. It would have been recorded on tape, like a lot the cheaper models the motors ran a tad fast hence the playback will be faster than being there
@dazzaseysm Thanks for dropping by Daz! You have great taste in music!
Can't get my head round there ain't no actual live recordings
@BlueRose26071967 Many thanks, Andrea! 10 stars to you! Cheers!
@YCSMusic2 Cheers Steve! I agree. Although "Don't You" made me a fan. But 25 years later....I dunno! "All the things" was probably dropped due to already having 5 songs from the same album already chosen (only a guess). Thanks Steve!
The HATH version i can understand dropping. But "Speed your love to me"? That's a wonderful version, really dynamic with the Charlie Burchill riff.

This to me shows how good the band are.
Jim Kerr said that they always wanted 2 double-album "live in the city of lights" . Choice was too hard to them to edit only 1 Thank you so much !!
Esto ocurría mucho en aquella época, en al que comprábamos los directos incompletos porque así los vendían..al menos en mi país. A mi ocurrió con otros album de otras bandas.
I was not aware that this four songs had been part of that MAGNIFICENT SHOW. How did you became aware of it? All my live I have wanted to see images of that particular show in Paris, but I guess that aren't any. Bye.
I think speed your love and all the things should be a no contest to making it on. same to with the american
@baldmindsfan I think have tried to fit it with the style of "1986" rather than "1982". I agree. Not a patch on the original. Thanks.
I remember when LITCOL came out and SYLTM, ATTSS and CALW were missing from it as they were/are 3 of my all time favourites and I was pretty gutted! SYLTM in particular was a powerhouse live at that time. From all of the bootlegs I’ve heard from this period I never felt that the arrangement of CALW way quite right, Mel seemed to overplay the beat and everyone seemed in a hurry to keep up. For me, Jim over sang it and the track didn’t breathe like it did on the album. Shame as I think it could have been a set showpiece if they’d have got it right. They’ve hardly ever played it since so I guess Jim isn’t a big fan! I agree with some of you here that I would much rather have had these on the album than DYFAM and possibly the overblown version of PYAM. I’ve always loved the slower versions of BOBTs and NGD though as they bring a different bit of magic and atmosphere which justifies their reworkings.. Apologies for all the abbreviations, just less to type!
@theredraven If you find one, let me know too, Ultimo! This recording needs a bit of extra bass. Thanks.
Is there a good quality boot of the whole concert?
Does anyone know where the inside gatefold shot was taken?

Locarno - Switzerland.
@thewackeddoctors I know. They seem to have a habit of ignoring that song. It didn't appear on the last tour. It was the only 80's 'hit' single not to appear on the silver box too. Thanks.
Glad this version never made it
Full throttle macho nightmare. Oh, the horror.
all of these bloody songs were done too fucking fast
all way too fast
hunter and the hunted is bad on this. way too fast and jim kerr's tune changing thing is in full effect.
same fault as many bands do live.....playing to fast....the songs lose the dna and we get some ordinary shit
