Simple Minds - Barrowland, Glasgow, 21st December 1983 (Audio)

Музыка

Audience Recording.
Recorded at Barrowland, Glasgow, 21st December 1983.
The first of three nights at this venue. The band the previous month had filmed the live scenes for their new promo video "Waterfront" at this venue. They were supposed to play their Christmas concerts at Tiffany's but that venue had just recently closed to live music so they thought let's use the Barrowland Ballroom instead and the rest is history, as they say!
This is a Malcolm Beaton master recording. Many thanks Malcolm! 👍
Songs are:
01. Waterfront
02. The American
03. Speed Your Love To Me
04. Glittering Prize
05. White Hot Day
06. Up On The Catwalk
07. Book Of Brilliant Things
08. King Is White And In The Crowd
09. Promised You A Miracle
10. Someone Somewhere (In Summertime)
11. Big Sleep
12. New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)
13. Love Song
14. Waterfront (fades out)

I was lucky enough to be there on 21st, 22nd & 23rd as a spotty 18 year old. Still a fan. Brilliant recording. Thanks for posting 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I didn't manage to get to these shows, but did go to the two shows at the Lyceum days before. Had a good old chat with Richard Jobson at one of them. Book of Brilliant Things blew me away, the first time I heard it.

Wow! What a show! I listened to this in the wee hours and I was buzzing for hours later and couldn’t sleep. The contrast in Jim’s interaction with the crowd, even from 12 months before - amazing! And he had such a vision of the future of Glasgow that I’m sure few others could actually imagine. It just sounded like the most amazing night. What a wonderful thing to hear White Hot Day being performed. God it sounded wonderful! Thanks to Malcolm for recording it all those years ago. And thank you A&T for uploading this absolute gem! ❤️👍🏻😊

Glad you got so much enjoyment from this show Larelle. Yeah, I love Mick's keyboard playing/sounds, Derek's bass and Mel's drumming on White Hot Day. Great stuff! Stay tuned cause I'm going to release the second of these three nights very soon. Another quality recording from Mr. Beaton! Happy listening! 👍🎶🙏

The good old days, awesome gigs. Was leaning against the stage for all the gigs- bruised and battered and in pain for weeks afterwards- wouldn't have changed it for the world- best days of our lives right enough. Thanks xx

Was a 13 year kid and this was my first time in the Baras.. I was use to going to the Glasgow Apollo but this was a completely different experience and atmosphere.... no bow tie bouncers or seats to control the audience so it was just manic!! Will never forget the feeling of the dance floor actually disappearing from underneath my feet by the sheer intense in sync movement and bouncing of the crowd as the first few bass notes of Waterfront along with the drama of the curtains pulling open at the centre front of stage.. We were packed in..we were so free and we didn't give a fuck about the so called up and coming fun destroyer..health and safety!! Thanks Jeff for standing in the cold Glasgow winter weather at 6 in the morning to get me my ticket.. Oxo Thank you for sharing this recording.

Superb gig thank you and around the time when the energy levels went up a few notches and Jim's rock star persona started to come to the fore with him asking us to "go higher and higher" and imploring us to "let me see your hands". Great to hear a rare live outing of the gloriously atmospheric White Hot Day and such a shame it didn't stay around for long. Brilliant days!

@Mark Baldwin lovely keyboard playing/sounds on White Hot Day. You can imagine Mick playing this on his accordion. Do miss Mick when listening back to this! 🎶😭

@@ArtAndTalk Couldn't agree more! Not many days have gone past over the last 30 years where I've not missed his playing. He was a huge part of their sound and possibly even the most important part of this, my favorite version of the Minds. Thanks again for the post, hugely enjoyable!
