So easy, thanks! Employer is paying to store my bike but requires a dry fuel tank (FI bike). This saves me from having to remove the fuel tank and pour upside down.

If you put more tube in the tank, plug the can end with your thumb, and then lower the level in the tube past the level of the tank you won't have to guff gas.

pro tip when siphoning... have a slice of bread handy in case you do get some in your mouth.. it will wick most of it out.. make sure you spit the bread out.

You're probably ok with that amount of flow, but PUT GAS CANS ON THE GROUND TO FILL THEM!! Gas running over the surface of the plastic gas can builds up a static charge. Then when you touch it it can create a spark that ignites the gas vapors. That's why gas stations have signs directing people not to fill containers unless they're resting directly on the ground. That allows the static charge to dissipate into the ground.

Nice bike. This is good to know that it can be done with a small diameter tube, my Connie has a tank that splits to the sides just below the inlet, it keeps me from getting the typical syphon hose to the bottom of the tank. Thanks.

Try using two tubes into the tank. Get suction like you talked about but blow into the shorter one and let the longer one feed into the gas can. This way you won't get gas in your mouth or even taste gasoline.

Thanks a lot Pal 🙂 very helpful & informative 👍 I just bought a new Honda CB1000-R and will store it for a year, do I need to drain the Gas tank ? BTW dealer added fuel stabilizer FYI. Thanks in Advance for the answer. Cheers

Yes sir, I would recommend it for storage for an entire year. I would drain the tank and then let the motor run until it used all the gas (run it dry). Good luck!

If you put the thumb end into the tank as well, it will recycle the old gas and make it anew, think a spring inside a clear pond....fresh recycled gas

i just acquired a 75 cb 360 with 4-5 year gas in it. i'm going to empty the tank out. my question is why siphon when you could just pull a fuel line? i'm a novice in this but everything I've been seeing is them siphoning over pulling a fuel line

petcocks and carburetors do well to just drain it out but the last 2.5 decades or so - all bikes are FI so there's a fuel pump and NO easy way to gravity drain the fuel out.

  • @gorillaau

The gas isn't always removed because it is bad. If you are removing a fuel tank, it's easier to loft it partly or fully emptied. However to answer you question, I'd suggest contacting your local authority for suggestion on where it can be disposed of properly. I know my local council will accept used engine oil, not sure about other auto fluids. Old fuel has very little reuse value in a home workshop.

Why are you not using a much larger hose, you would get far more out much quicker, i could empty that tank in less than a minute, I ride a 09 1200rt and have emptied my tank several times, use a regular garden watering hose size, I really can't believe you used that size of hose, there is a system BMW riders use so you don't have to suck on the tube at all and it does not cost much, may be $10, stick the tube in a squeeze this plastic thing and you can attach almost any size bigger tube to the other end.
