Welcome to the Gretsch family! As a multi-instrumentalist, I currently own 7 Gretsch guitars, 5 Gretsch basses, 2 Gretsch Banjos, a Gretsch Uke and a vintage Gretsch clarinet (from the late 30's to early 40's). I used to own a Gretsch C-Melody saxophone, but I ended up selling it to a friend.

Thank you. This discussion is priceless for those of us just trying to figure out how to approach the EQ process. Probably would be helpful to do this on a number of instruments - like guitar, bass, and maybe our own vocals! I was quite surprised about what each of the segments sounded like - mids were MUCH higher pitch than I would have thought.

I strongly recommend using a third octave graphic eq while learning frequencies, especially one that allows you to grab several bands at the same time. I often throw one on the channel temporarily , to test out an EQ move before committing to a parametric move. I like the GEQ-30 Classic from Waves because it has a globally adjustable Q. I know it’s a holdover method from live sound that I started in the 70’s but it is a great tool for Learning. It’s also handy for VSX users to tweak a mix as you switch between rooms to test different environments so that your mix translates.

I actually own one of Peter's 8x10 cabinets. It was painted red for Carnivore and later painted green for Type O Negative, and finally black. One speaker was blown but I had a replacement, new in box, addressed to TON at a NJ address which I found out to be their tech. One of my most valued possessions is that amp. It's stenciled Type O Negative B3 on the back in green.

snare drum tip: 820hz boost it 10 db and play with the q of it. then look at the hits and the frequencies that pop out. on the lower end 200 to 300 ish and then 4k and 8k test all those zones with minimum boost or cuts only thing i ever keep a constant is 820hz boost because its an alex van halen trick i guess and it definitely makes a snare pop when you also enhance its low it in pair with it and the high that is crisp for the said snare just depends on the song and the snare and tuning

I remember doing the same... Soon enough, you won't even think about it, your ear and memory will allow instinct to take over. Instinct always includes checks and balances lol.

Question , would using files from a vst like ez drummer midi files, for something like this work or does one have to use actual drums recorded ? I ask because I don't have access to an actual drum kit . I have an e kit and ezd 3 software but that's about it.

Nice overview, and I like the top-down approach. Sorry if this is in another video, but do you use any eq on the individual mic inputs while tracking (eg high/lo pass filters) or is everything completely flat?

Any suggestions on how to control an out of control hi-hat...in other words, drummers that refuse to close them properly so they are not blasting through everything. Even the OH are blaring hi-hat.

I am a Studio One "Artist" user. The Dynamic EQ plug-in is not part of the Artist package. Presonus does not appear to offer any of its plugins a la carte. Is there a way to get it outside of upgrading? I saw mention of GEQ-Classic from Waves, but before plunking down $30 it would be good to hear of any other options.

Pardon me for being off topic, but are you still using the StudioLive, and were these drums recorded through it?
