    @@geniusandmad Dude, those LEDs would not lit up from just one 1.5V battery, they need about 3V min. This is a joule-thief circuit and can light up those LEDs from near dead batteries (the circuit diagram says as low as 0.2V). Hope this help.

    This is called a "Joule thief" It uses back emf and the switching action of the transistor to pump out short pulses of voltage higher than the output of the battery. Frequencies above 1kz, and even 50kHz are possible.

    @Muckin 4on Good point. The induced field in secondary opposes the field of the primary, so while the primary produces back emf as its field collapses, the secondary produces forward voltage as its induced field collapses.

  • @Elfnetdesigns

    @Elfnetdesigns

    3 жыл бұрын

    it's a simple oscillator that pulses the coil, Induction principles apply when the pulse creates a magnetic field and that field collapses it in return creates an EM spike of higher voltage on the secondary winding, pulse fast enough and you simulate a constant flow of higher voltage to power the LEDs like that. Upscale the circuit with high power components and you can run a standard 120 or 240 volt lamp off a couple batteries.. Your eyes do not see the pulsing but it exists and as mentioned, it's happening so fast it look like the voltage is constant. Neat little fact is this circuit is the core basis of how a stun gun works. Just lower the pulse rate and add a Marx generator stage or three and you have several KV there, add some capacitors and you drive up the amperage to make it actually stun someone.
