Simple Creative Light Painting
Today I'd like to show you a very simple but creative composition that I wanted to light paint recently. It did present a few difficulties however but I'll show you exactly how I worked through those issues and came out with a couple of stunning nightscape images.

Hi Richard. You drove out ALL that way, took ALL that time and effort for the corner of a fence and a few rusty spikes.....and what a wholly inspiring video you created again. Not only that, we all saw too, what you were rewarded with at the end of that shoot. This will be why people will come back to watch you time and again even months later. Thankyou that was fantastic!

Fantastic exhibition Richard! I love the glassless framing style you use, just makes the images so much more vivid when not dealing with glare and reflections. Love how shaping light can completely transform an environment. It's something I think most of us at least subconsciously appreciate, but few really dive into to understand like yourself Richard. Fantastic stuff!

Have been following your channel for a while now, and have learnt a lot 🙂 Although I'm in the UK - the land of cloud and rain! - I lived in NSW Australia for 10yrs until 2016. I didn't photograph the MW much whilst there for some reason - instead concentrating on deep sky stuff with a huge refractor telescope and CCD camera. Regretting it now! I recognise where your gallery was at in Bendigo - we used to go down that way Gold hunting; Eaglehawk and the Whipstick area.

Hi Richard, what a wonderful image that you made from what looks at first like something very uninteresting. I wondered how you could possibly make a good picture from that small fence post and a couple of old bits of iron. Wow ! You didn’t hold back there mate, what a fantastic image, I love it. It just goes to show if you have a decent imagination and lots of skill you can make photos from anything….Richard you are the man for nightscapes! I agree with Tony, get over here to the UK, in my case, especially Scotland and do a workshop, I would love to spend a day (night obviously) with you helping show us how to make a decent photo along these lines :) . I do have a question meantime, I know you use star trackers etc. it is there anyway that these can be done just using your camera on a tripod, I don’t have a star tracker….yet lol . Thanks again for sharing and educating us with such a great video 😁👍

Another great video Richard! When you listed your foreground image settings, you show f2.0-f10 and iso 800-1600. Does this mean you altered your setting for the foreground images and then stacked them in post, or did you keep the setting a the same for all foreground shots?
@nightscapeimages.richard
7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching Paul. I did shoot a couple of images for the foreground at f5.6 but I couldn't get focus accurate from front to back as I was pretty close to the fence post. So I stopped down to f10 to get a sharper and wider depth of field. I did still use the f5.6 image for the background part of the foreground. And yes I blended them all in using photoshop. It's really important not to move the camera between shots. Hope that makes sense.
Great video, thanks Richard! I bought two of the Ulanzi LED panels. Will try them out during the next meteor shower in December (Death Valley, USA). I have never had a star tracker and thinking about buying one. Would you recommend the Star Adventurer Mini? (Not too worried about tracked sky yet). Thanks!
@nightscapeimages.richard
7 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for watching Kerry. Well I have 4 different star trackers and I always go to the SA Mini for these tracked shots. It's the smallest and lightest .. also the cheapest. For wide angle lenses it's perfect I reckon.
Very nice!!! Just curious… why the mini and not the Polaris?
@nightscapeimages.richard
7 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Well a couple of reasons for this shoot. Firstly time was of the essence . .and the Polaris can be hit and miss with setting up and getting it running. Sometimes it's really quick but not so other times. Secondly, I really only bought the Polaris for tracked panorama shoots .. .so in this case I wanted simple single exposures. . the Mini is just so easy and simple to use.
