I forgot to mention that your videos always discuss those small details that can really make an image pop nicely, with good separation from the background. Thanks for all your hard work Jay. You are obviously passionate about what you do, and I really appreciate your tips and thoughts on shooting different styles of portraits etc. Take care.
video is a great example of basic set up. I've been doing this for years, professionally for hundreds of blue chip companies. have no idea who this guy is but appreciate the efforts he's taken to share. Comments above are clearly from people who should remain silent and only be suspected of being fools, rather than commenting and leave no doubt.
Really enjoyed this, thanks! I know some people are complaining about simple, but this setup could work with speed lights as well with smaller soft boxes. Make it your own and make do with what you have. This is a great guide! Thank you!!!
I don't understand why people show their frustrations through comments. When they cann't appreciate something, at least they shouldn't criticise unless they would be in a position to prove the wrongness of another person. I really appreciate for your efforts in sharing your knowledge and teaching many people around the world. Thanks.

Wow! I just did some portraits after watching this tutorial and I am very pleased with the results. I was covering up a photographer friend of mine, who's mother passed away. The client was happy also. So, thanks a lot for the tutorial.

Flagging the light-shirts tip is GOLDEN. Thanks for the tutorial!

Photography looks easy but it often takes a lot of work.
Watching your lighting tutorials really helped me out alot. It helped me to see and understand lighting in a diffefent way. I have been practicing more and more and have been creating better images that my clients love. If you ever have an in person workshop, I'll be there!!! Thanks A Million!!!

You're welcome!
Hi! Thanks for the excellent video! I would like to figure out how to achieve excellent results with the lights I have. I have two 24" softboxes with speedlights, two 24" constant florescent, and one hair light with a 24" Softbox. I also have a large reflector. I am thinking I would have one softbox with speedlight as my key light, the other one behind for the rim light, and one constant on the background. I would like to avoid having to buy anything else! Do you think this will work? What would you suggest! Thanks so much! I will experiment with what I have, and I appreciate any feedback you are able to give!
Jay P is superb, I've learned so much from these vids, thanks to everyone involved!
Indeed very helpful. My first corporate photography job was a disaster. Happy i can look back and laugh about it. thank you for sharing this. But more important question - Did the company sign a release form on behalf of all the staffs you photographed or each and everyone had to sign a release form individually?
great video. i'm considering corporate portraits to help fill in between holidays and senior portraits. i learned a lot from this video. thanks for making it.
Thank you for the very comprehensive video! All that little extra tips are gold ! And - yes - for a real pro, this is a besic setup. But with pro results !

Yerzhan Kurmanbay Thank you for the feedback, and for watching
i am curious about what happens behind the scenes because i plan to take some corporate photos. i liked your results, which is why i watched your video. you and your team are very prepared. thanks for sharing. best...
Hi JP, how come you use regular softbox for the keylight? Is it because you like the square catchlight or because of the rapid falloff? As for the rimlight, does it really matter whether using octodome or softbox? Because it's just a rimlight and you can't really see the difference from the camera side. If I'm wrong, then perhaps you can make a video of comparison between the two (and perhaps add umbrella as well?) so we all can see the difference. Thanks, Leo
one of the most straight forward informative videos on Corporate Shoots, Was not detailed in the tech photo side, but very much in the business side of the event. THANKS, Made a subscriber out of me.

Amazing and very objective! Congrats
Excellent video - those are REAL LIFE tips. Great work.
Hi J.P. I loved this video and picked up lots of great information including brining hangers! My goal is to pick up corporate shoots like this but I'd rather bring only the right gear that's needed and know where it goes. Can you recommend a combination of my gear & placement or should I get better heads for corporate shoots? 1 T800D 800 w/s strobe head, and a 6 x 4 softbox with honeycomb grid 2 strobe heads at 160 w/s each with a 2x3 softbox 1 strobe head. 180 w/s with 2x3 softbox 1 strobe head 150 w/s (umbrellas only, different mount- britek) have shoot through, reflective and black-backed white. My lenses Tamron 24-70 2.8, canon 70-200 F4, Canon 50 1.4, Rokinon 85mm 1.4 Manual lens (focus on live view always) canon 28-135 3.5-5.6
Helpful tutorial. These are the small things that a lot might miss.
Thanks for posting, very informative and concise
Great stuff!
Great ideas, especially the checklist. Thank you for sharing.
Extremely helpful! This video needs more views.
I enjoyed this. Obviously there are many ways to shoot a portrait, this is another data point - things to consider when designing my set up

Great stuff Super production of this video itself. I subbed coz of the snappy video and quality substance.
Got a corporate CEO shoot tomorrow, but were looking at doing it outdoors...any quick tips?
can we get the same backdrop motion & color , after keying a green screen ? because i painted the wall with green , so how can i edit it to this background in photoshop ? and get the same naturalisme ???? thank you
Queston--if you end up having a fill light at the end for the purpose of bouncing off the walls and filling in the shadows a bit, then what's the point of putting the grid on your softbox to prevent bounce light?
Excellent video, thank you so much. You're a fantastic instructor.
Thanks for the great video as always JP! Any tips for getting work shooting corporate headshots?
Thanks for your tips! You are a terrific professional!

Simply amazing...
Thank you so much for making this video!!
Awesome video, delivered with enthusiasm, passion and experience . Could you achieve exactly the same results using battery power ? I ask because I am an adventurer photographer but I have been asked to shoot a company with 360 employees. Do I need to invest in continuous lighting or would battery see me ok ? Thank you so much for making the effort to create it, share it really appreciated.
This was actually helpful. First one i've found so far.

Mary Berrien You are welcome, thanks for watching!
Another great video. I know some comments suggest this is complicated, and that you don't necessarily need expensive gear, but, hey, if you have the gear then why not use it! I use a combination of studio strobes and speedlites. They work fine, and I can do a 4 light setup easily. The only downside is my studio strobes need outlets. Oh well.
In the beginning he stated he used a 24-70mm but that was a 70-200 cannon lens

it shows a Tamron 24-70 on the tripod when it's labeled. I have one. I prefer the 70-200 but sometimes they stick you in a small room and you can't get back far enough, that's when the 24-70 comes in handy. It's good to bring both, as he obviously did.
Holy crap. This is exactly what I needed three months ago! 😅

Very good info!
i like the simple stuffs !
Very informative, thank you. Can you tell me the make of the travel head lighting modifer you attached to the background light to produce the circle of light behind the subject? I could not catch the name from your video. Do you know if you can purchase something similar to this to fit a Bowens flash head? It appears a very useful piece of kit!
Thanks for this informative video. I work at Gideon Hart Corporate Photography in London. Interesting to get some tips from over the pond.
great work
on average how much would you charge for something like this.. I'm a free lance photographer in sc and trying to get my prices just right..Thanks
Amazing Video!
Hi. Could you tell me where I can buy the background light you used in the video?

+Baidu Research Hi there, we use Dynalite. This is the powerpack amzn.to/20FJOpl, and this is the head amzn.to/20FJUxe. We used a Photoflex softbox - amzn.to/1Xe3IlV. Thanks for watching!
Thanks! Makes sense.
Thanks Ronny, I thought that if the fill is not as bright as the key it wouldn't cast any unwanted shadows. I could be wrong though. Your point about the fill being on-axis is very good, I think i missed that. Thanks for the reply.
Thank you very much! Very helpful contents!
Very informative - no BS - thank you.
Very informative. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing.
Great info...the small stuff counts. THX!!!
If you wrap your lights closer to subject you wouldn't have to use that front fill and there also won't be much light falling on to background.
The tips about the mirror and tie, etc., are as helpful as the photography stuff. It's the small thing like this that can put you above your competition and impress your clients...
The flag is common in the film industry. Matthews or Norman's in Los angeles has them. You can buy them at B&H. They are called quick flags sometimes.
so good
Awesome outcome using good lighting techniques. Well it feels like becoming a professional photographer :-)

was not expecting rinse out jungle at the end of this video hahaha
What kind of settings did you use here?
Great Job Sir!!!!!!!
dang dude, great video.
Nice, very helpful lesson! Question about that fill umbrella behind the camera, because you are so far from the subject, could you have put that full light closer, maybe on the opposite side of the that softbox key to bring up the shadows? I ask because I don't think I have a light that can provide fill from such a far distance. I am probably just confused though! :) Thank you.
amazing. thank you.
Thanks for helpful video.
brilliant
Very good, Thanks.
Great video! What tripod and pistol grip ball head are you using?

Possible to make a similar shoot with minimal gear ? Like 2 speedlites and no backdrop. Just clients location and your speedlite, what can you do with it ?
@TheSlantedLens
2 жыл бұрын
You can do that with speed lights. They just don't have the battery power to keep up very long.
I know this is an old video, and you may not see this, but... How would you describe the difference in lighting between these corporate portraits and headshots?
Thank you!
Hi Stephen, I might be wrong, but I think he wanted to have an on camera axis fill lights. If you place the umbrella on the opposite side of the key light, you might cast shadows on the opposite side of the face. Hope my explanation helps.
