Simple and Durable Birch Trees for Wargaming and Tabletop Games

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

▬ Introduction ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
In this wargaming terrain tutorial this I'll go through how I make awesome looking birch forest scatter terrain for any tabletop games! As opposed to the last tree tutorial I did, this time I am going to use some premade tree armatures from Woodland Scenics. I will also be using Woodland Scenics' polyfiber, a first for me but a product that can easily help with the substructure for wargaming or tabletop trees! These scatter terrain trees can ideally be used in most wargaming tabletop games such as: Dungeons & Dragons, Frostgrave, Games Workshop's Mordheim, Warhammer: Age of Sigmar or even War Cry!

    One "unconventional" feature in Your videos, that makes them super enjoyable, is You nordic accent with English. It is so close to the way we Finns speak English, and it is soooo much easier to understand, than many native English speakers with broad regional accents. Superd production value, gentle and clear voice, and top shelf content. Stay awesome! Gud jul från Finland!

    Who could have known that sand is such a good way to recreate bark? The paint job is just spot on! Just like the foliage. At first I was sceptical because the cotton made it look rather cloudy. But the flocking made it really convincing. We also used to hunt this kind of mushroom. The name they have here is not as poetical, though. Because of their somewhat yolk-like colour we refere to them, roughly translated, as 'egg-mushrooms'... or is it because they are usually eaten with scrambled eggs on a slice of bread? Tasty non the less! Greetings and keep it up, Leif! :D

    I agree! I was a bit unsure of the sand texture until the final parts. Oh that is interesting, what region of the world are we talking about? Oh wow, my mouth waters now! Haha! Mushroom hunting in the fall it is! 👍😂

    @@DevsDice The region would be southern Germany. But since dialects vary strongly depending on the state you are in, there is a good chance that there are more names for this kind of mushroom. In deed, I wish I had some to eat when I wrote that earlier 😂 I really wanted to go mushroom hunting last fall, just to get out a bit for once. Though, it didn't came to be due to the lack of a proper... hunting-party? Oh well, maybe this year :)

    Fantastic video. I’ve used train hobby trees and other supplies for decades with my Wargaming tables. It’s good to see other people picking them up. They make a good starting point for great projects. The one thing I would caution is to glue your trees to large 2-inch washers, to keep them from tipping over. Maybe it’s just me, but the sight of trees falling over and over on my table drives me nuts. :). Keep up the great terrain work.

Start from the bottom grabing the bottom set of limbs, then grab the next of limbs up & twist 75° - 90°, till desired. Ya can twist the limbs in a similar fashion (except the shorter limbs). Thank you so much! They are definitely easier and quicker. Money-wise...well I am not sure to be honest. The good part is that you get a lot of smaller trees fast. But none of them really stand out if that makes any sense? They do a good job of adding some color to the forest! 🤣

    wow, these are soooo pretty! I think I’m going to finally use my woodland scenics armatures..... I have a question, I recently picked up an airbrush and it’s been an absolute blast, but I’ve found that the needle has some dried paint on it, and so does the cup. I’m nervous to clean it thoroughly because I know it’s a delegate tool. How do you handle this?

  • @DevsDice

    @DevsDice

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thank you MattTheMonster! Ah so, one tip I would give you is to get comfortable with disassembling and assembling your airbrush. It takes time but eventually it will become second nature. Regarding the needle and cup, I usually use some airbrush cleaner or in worst case some IPA alcohol. Another way to clean the airbrush is to get a sonic cleaner which does wonders for me. But if you only have paint on the needle and cup then airbrush cleaner and wiping carefully should suffice. And yes they are delicate, but no more than handling a resin miniature I would say. Hope that helps in some way! 👍

    Really shouldn't eat wild mushrooms, there can be dangerous things involved that you cant see with the human eye.

  • @DevsDice

    @DevsDice

    3 жыл бұрын

    Well I guess that depends. In the North we have a long tradition of picking mushrooms every fall. Of course it goes without saying that you need to KNOW your mushrooms, for instance the chanterelles are very unique in their appearance, etc. Also, if you think that the edible mushrooms have something "dangerous on them that the human eye can't see", well cleaning them and cooking them generally kills all kinds of pathogens except cyanide or mercury - which we generally do not have in our nature. 😂👍

  • @clockworkpanda8

    survival experts say its dangerous no matter how you prepare them and even a expert shouldn't risk it. Its killed people who have literal college degrees in the field.

  • @DevsDice

    @DevsDice

    3 жыл бұрын

    Well ok, I am not sure what to tell you. Because it's worked fine for us for generations. College degree or not, if one isn't 100% sure then you shouldn't. Again, if you know your mushrooms and prepare them, then it is obviously fine. At least in Scandinavia in my experience. Of course we also have accidents where people for one or another reason have eaten poisonous mushrooms. But the way you describe it sounds like "fear-mongering" to be honest. If I see a chanterelle then there is something "dangerous on it that the human eye cannot see". I mean, give me a realistic example of what that would be? Or is that sentence just another way of saying "one who cannot tell the difference between poisonous and edible mushrooms"?

  • @clockworkpanda8

    @clockworkpanda8

    3 жыл бұрын

    The main reasons are "look alike" mushrooms are common and can be dangerous also even the correct ones can be contaminated with things like mold that is too small to see and such. You can look it up its a well documented thing so i hardly call it fear mongering, also i have not been rude so you don't have to be either.

  • @clockworkpanda8

    I mean you can do what you want i respect that and the video was good, i was just sharing a known survival tip and trying to get comments on your video. Being called a fear mongerer doesn't encourage me to comment on other videos.
