SimCity: How to get High Density Buildings Back to Back
Ойындар
In order to build as efficient as possible you will want to ignore the road guides. Use this technique instead!

it took you 12min to say "use the parks" but its a good tip, i like it. Thank you.

Yeah, it got a little lengthy. But I like to explain stuff in detail. And not only how to do it, but also why.

He did ramble on a bit but he's got to be exact or people won't get it. I found it a bit overwhelming at points when he could have just said use those thin park strips. Again it was a good tip because I had no idea you could turn off guides for roads.
You're still a lifesaver, 7 years later. And I still spit my drink at 'Thank you achievement!"
8 minutes to finally explain that its the width of two of the long parks next to each other.

easiest way is to just use the default square grid on the streetcar/high avenue street defaults ,u get 4 big buildings in one and use one quarter for a park

Had to fast forward like crazy so much talking for such an easy explanation.
Once you have laid down the parks it is important to make sure your roads are at an exact 90 degree angel. Since the space between buildings is minimal, the slightest inward curve will mess up the grid and prevent one side from building larger buildings. If you want to be sure, line both sides of the block with parks. If both sides fit in you know you did it right.
This is by far the most helpful video demystifying the large buildings!
I watched this video around the time it was uploaded. I still play the game and just came back to re-learn this tactic. thanks man

What drives you to still play this game when there is a much better city building game out there?

Thank you! I'm a new player to SC5 and I thought I understood the right line but wasn't 100% sure. You cleared it up and showed me exactly what I wanted to know. I think Maxis actually took a step back with clear zoning visuals vs. SC4 though...
This is not exactly what I was looking for but this was IMMENSELY helpful. Thanks a lot.
Very useful, I knew I was on the right tracks using parks to space for me but was using the wrong sized parks. Perfect spacing always takes up most of my time
Thank you for this explanation... i started to build my city on SImCity 4 principals and i got whole area covered and nowhere to build anymore, this 1 helped a lot!
he: "and you can see that the buildings are..." I: "burning to the ground?" he: "...perfectly spaced." I: "Well, yeah I guess that too."
Thanks, I was struggling with road congestion and density, this resolves it!
Ignoring the guidelines is the most useful tip for this version of Simcity and the most counter-intuitive thing they could've done
Learned so much from this video. Thanks, man. Probably will start a new region due to this tip and trying get better at processor, PC, and TV production. Just sucks not knowing exactly how much space is needed for trade, utilities, tourism, etc. when dealing with such small cityscapes.
I have found that if you go to exactly the end of the second park to start the second road, you will NOT get back to back high density. One side will be stuck with med density. You need to leave just a little bit extra room to ensure you get back to back. Excellent idea, though. Thanks for sharing.
Great video and explanation. Will be using this in my next game, thanks for posting!
Thx man :) it was so difficult to get it right.
I figured that out not long after making this video. Thanks!
Great tutorial, really helped me, Thank you.
Fabulous video. Changed my approach completely.
Awesome tutorial! way to use the parks as a measuring tool...good job my man!
This a good guide. Thanks man even 10 years later im still learning about this great game. shame that EA will no longer support this kind of game
Clever observation. .. Very helpful for these tiny maps. Thanks
Just playing around with this technique tonight and I found (for me with the expansion) that the distance you need is as close to 2174§ as you can get. Your mileage may vary, but that gave me the width of 2 tree rows in a row like he used in the video. And I agree with the non-abusive voices in the comments that say that sometimes having the extra space between the roads for a park between high density blocks does WONDERS for keeping the Sims happy.
With square blocks you can set up one, then create more roads using the square road tool (hold shift to lock it square) and quickly replicate the blocks. I like it. It isn't really necessary to have high density roads on all four sides, just the 2 opposing sides the buildings will front. So if you make the other 2 streets low density then you will get stop signs instead of lights, which I would think will help traffic quite a bit.
Keep in mind that if the road isn't a perfect 90 degree angle compared to the park the zone won't have enough room for high density (because a tiny corner is occupied by road). You can make sure that roads are perfect 90 degree roads you can hold shift while drawing them.
Thank you for this video! It helped me in my biggest problem! :D You made yourself 100% clear, the video was straight and good! I really liked it! Thumbs up went on it, plus a Subscribe! - Keep it up bro!
Thank you good sir, I learned a couple tips today.
Finally a good explanation about this issue!
Great guide! Thanks a lot! Good stuff, now my Old NY style brick and brown stone buildings can be doubled in awesomeness! ;) Subbed.
Thanks for ur guide, very well explained :)
Wow! Thanks for this extremely good tip!
just tried to play this game again for the first time since release. my ocd thanks you
Good video, great explaination. Thanks bro !
great video, very useful. Thank you.
Thank you! Glad you like it!
Amazing turtotial, its very well explained and its actually really helpfull. - You got my sub of that!
A little creativity gets you a long way :)
Oh thx, that was rely useful info and very well explained. You should do more.
You;ll see it in your video where 3 of them are HD and on the block that's left there are 3 small strips of houses equally divided. That's the size of each cursor block. You're right, it tend to change when there are things around the end of the road. Try it with a road long enough so that the cursor doesn't have anything to "snap" into. I'm not 100% sure. But I'm trying it right now. Thanks for the tip BTW.
Thanks for posting ......great tip!
Good tutorial...thanks. A tip for you. If you hold down CTRL when bulldozing a road you can delete an entire segment.
Thank you, I'm glad I could help :).
Best Road guide bro, thanks a lot....
I would think so! Should be doable though if you reserve a bit more space and use more parks to space the roads.
nice video m8 you helped me a lot keep up
thanks for your help... great work..
very helpful, thank you bro
I have the French/German/British building sets, what is the sizing to guarantee all of those buildings? Thanks!
Thanks man, really great help.
Good tips. Thanks!
Thanks now i will try it in my brand new sim city 5. But i have a question, to get high density industries or comercial is it the same? regrets from Mexico. !
very good technique thank you!
thank you so much you help me alot at this problem
Thank you, helped a lot.
Thank you, I really appreciate that :).
Thank you for the tip! It is so true that we lose space in those games... ;D
thanks but where do you put parks to increase the land value
It's just something I noticed while playing, to be honest. As I started filling empty spaces next to large buildings with parks I noticed they were the exact same size 100% of the time. From there it just took a little bit of experimenting.
Thanks, glad you liked it :).
Great video. Really helpfull. I have alot of problem whit my city where there are smaall stupid houses between high skyscapers saying 'not enough room to increase density'. Thanks !
Great explanation. Can't wait till they have Sim City for mac.
What if you want the park to be high wealth to bring high wealth buildings. Is there an alternative to that?
Was loosing the will to live, then at 8:02 you said Daisy-Chain and Sim City is suddenly worth playing again! Thank you!
Haha, well I guess that's my funny Dutch accent messing up! Glad you still liked it ;).
very helpful, thank you!
I don't have those building sets, so I can't say for certain. But I assume those buildings have the same size as any other high density building.
Somebody is thinking outside the low density
Thanks a lot for this guide. Subbed. ;)
Wow!!! Really Great Video Keep it up DUDE!!!!!!!!
Can someone help me? This doesn't seems to work for me. I suspect it's due to the gradient of the ground I'm building at. Here's the thing. If the gradient is not flat, you have to leave a gap in between the 2 back to back buildings, the higher the gradient, the bigger the gap. This is because, when there's a gradient, the bottom of the building seems to require more space.
Please make a tutorial on controlling the proper happiness level of the shops. I have this frustrating problem with residents wanting shops even though commercial is zoned right next door!
Thanks a lot for the tip.
Very clear thanks man
Thanks for the video it's very helpful. Maybe I can give you an extra tip. If you leave enough space to blocks you can build a plazas which is excatly same depth of high density so you can easily increase land values and get quickly high density buildings. But there is a bug or something I guess. I had over 80k population before plop a plazas instead of tree rows. When I done that. I lost Over 50k population. I upgraded almost every medium density buildings to high density but population is gone
I knew about the use of tree-lines. But people should consider using the High Density Road guide-lines to make room for placing of megatowers. This will mean jumping 1 extra line out - which exactly should allow space for a megatower width. Two tree-lines wont have anough space.
thanks a lot, was very helpful
Ty this was very helpful
thank you so much!
I watched this video years ago but I really didn't make well laid down cities, they were pretty random. For some reason I got back to the game this couple of weeks ago. Came back to this video and got a my first 500k pop city. It might not be a lot to many of you but someone that has been building barely 100k cities over and over again it's a dream come true. I can't seem to be able to push it to over 550k. There were times that I got stuck in the past specificaly at around 250k where my population was frozen there but suddenly exploded to 400k but I have been legit stuck there at 550k. The people in the city just don't want a bigger house I guess lol. Any tips?
You're welcome, from the Netherlands.
You explained it perfectly buddy
Thanks for taking the effort mate, much appreciated. Don't pay too much attention tot he few whiners below, they are probably are too busy rolling their homemade emotampons on a daily basis. Bedankt!

It's been 4 years and I still have no idea
Are you sure? Because when I zone block by block I think the size sometimes tends to change.
Hey man, thank you for showing this in detail. Yeah sure, it might have been a tiny bit too long, but at least it's comprehensible and accurate! This just made me want to start playing again!!! One thing though, the link in your description to a written guide is no longer valid. Seems the domain doesn't exist any more, just so you know :)
You can reserve blocks for parks or make a Central Park kind of thing. Doesn't matter really.
Omg Thank you I finally Know whats the Lime green about
Great Guide!...thx
What region were you playing on?
dank je voor de mooie uitleg zeer helpfull :))
Where can i get this game i dowlond simcity4 but ust not the same
thanx the video is sooo helpful :)
Thanks, good tip.
Thanks, great help
thank you for the great tip
Hi, i just started playing again 😂 is this applicable for industrial zoning? Thanks in advance!
Yes. Somewhere on the beginning of the video you sad "city spacing", but to me it sounded like "shitty spacing" so I laughed hard. I am sorry and meant no disrespect, this is a great video..
I have 5 high wealth building but why the academy building is not unclockced
Very helpful 😊
I think that with 150k people in the city your road system will get stuck regardless of the layout. Especially with that single access point most cities have. But it's certainly good advice. Mixing R and C as much as possible does seem to reduce traffic.
