    Even if I'm in Mexico for a week, I buy a sim. The cost of the chip and one week of unlimited calls, text, and data was 100 pesos. So, it costs less than a day of roaming with Canadian cellular plan.

    Thanks for the video. I usually get Telcel SIM cards in Mexico. I’m considering trying an eSIM as I like the idea of being able to keep my phone number. However when I watch the Airalo video it says if you chose your primary number as the default for calls and texts you may be charged from your home provider even if you put Airlo as the primary for data. Were you able to keep your Canadian phone number for texts and calls without getting charged by your Canadian provider?

    Hi! We didn't have to call anyone, and we only used iMessage texts when in wifi, so we didn't really test the limits of using our eSIM. However, our understanding is the same as yours: an eSIM is only for data, which is great when using Whatsapp and Google maps etc. when out and about. If you need to call someone, then the solution is to call via Whatsapp or Facetime, as opposed to using a traditional cell phone call. Hope that helps!

    Awesome video. Going to Mexico next month and thinking about giving this a try. Did you have to remove your physical sim or somehow turn it off to avoid getting charged by your Canadian carrier? Thanks

  • @HeGoesSheGoes

    @HeGoesSheGoes

    5 ай бұрын

    Thanks! No need to remove your original SIM card when using an eSIM. Through your settings you make your eSIM the primary SIM, to ensure you're not using your original. Of course, if you buy and use a new physical SIM card in Mexico, then you just swap cards, meaning no roaming charges from your home carrier. Hope that helps, and have a great trip!

    Great video and editing. Since physical SIMs are cheaper, what is the advantage of an eSIM if your phone uses either? Or is your phone an iPhone 14 and only has eSIM?

    Thanks for watching! We went with an eSIM on one of our phones so we could keep at least one of our home numbers. Just in case someone tries to reach us that we hadn't considered, ie. secondary contacts, etc. Hope that helps!

    Hi! Thanks for your videos! Especially those on Cuba where I’m heading. My questions (I don’t see direct contact with you): you said you bought a Cuban SIM card for your Apple 14 cellphone? My Apple phone can’t be opened to let a SIM card inserted. How did you do that? Also about Cuban intercity taxis (ViaZul bus website shows only one bus a day at unsuitable hours), can you tell me where in Havana to locate them? How to find their schedule and prices? Thanks!

  • @HeGoesSheGoes

    @HeGoesSheGoes

    8 ай бұрын

    Thanks! Apparently US iPhone 14s don't have SIM card slots and so you need to use an eSIM. Maybe that's why? As for Cuba, as we recall we grabbed a shared taxi (colectivo) to Varadero from the Viazul bus station in Havana. It was several years ago so perhaps things have changed but we remember just negotiating cost and time with them at the station. Good luck!

    Is there a telcel in the puerto vallarta airport? The resort is picking us up from there so we won't be going to the Oxxo

  • @HeGoesSheGoes

    @HeGoesSheGoes

    3 ай бұрын

    As far as we know, there isn't one at the airport, and the Oxxo outside is usually pretty busy, so you might have to wait until you're settled at the resort to hunt down another Oxxo, or ask your taxi driver to stop somewhere on the way. Thanks for watching and have a great trip!

    Hi! Are we then able to use our phone apps like uber? Also is the sim card is it reusable on you next trip to Mexico?

  • @HeGoesSheGoes

    Hi! Yes! We have been able to use phone apps like Uber with the SIM card. Excellent question about reusing the card. We’re not 100% sure but from what we understand they do expire after a certain period (180 days) if they are inactive. We recommend doing a search or chatting with a representative depending on the network you buy the SIM from.

    How do you get to keep your own number, do you do this while you set it up online just as this video explained ? Do you create an acct with this online website?

  • @HeGoesSheGoes

    @HeGoesSheGoes

    Hi there! When activating an eSIM you're essentially using it for data, i.e. surfing the web, using your maps and all your other apps while you're out and about. You can still keep your main number for messaging and calls if you like. The eSIM service helps you through this, but essentially it's all done in settings on your phone. The eSIM adds new options in there for you. Hope this helps!

    Verizon and T-Mobile are free in Mexico. Why do I need to change the SIM Card?

  • @HeGoesSheGoes

    @HeGoesSheGoes

    5 ай бұрын

    Hi! It sounds like you may not need to. For Canadians like us, our Roam Like Home plans (international travel plans) cost $15/day for up to 20 days a month, i.e. $300 extra per month. So, it depends on the plan you have. If you can get free service in Mexico using your home plan then that's great! We don't have that option.

  • @HeGoesSheGoes

    @HeGoesSheGoes

    5 ай бұрын

    Hi there! Yes, we believe so. On an iPhone it's easy to figure out if your phone is unlocked by checking in the Settings. It'll say something like 'No SIM restrictions' in the Carrier Lock area. Hope that helps!
