In this presentation, we will discuss what forest management and silviculture are, what you need to gather before you act, the tools and methods of silviculture, the many faces of what silviculture looks like, and how to do your part to properly steward and continue the sustainable legacy of providing wildlife habitat, the protection and conservation of forests and water. Speaker Bio: Courtney Compton is an Assistant Regional Forester with the State Lands Management Program of the NJ Forest Service. She graduated from Stockton University in 2011 with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and continued her education at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) completing her Master’s of Forestry degree in Forest Management and Operations in 2014, a Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited degree. Courtney began her career with the NJ Forest Service in 2011 as a volunteer where she quickly became a part-time Forestry Assistant until being hired full-time as a forester in 2016. During her time as a Forestry Assistant, she also consulted as a Forester with Shelterwood Forest Managers, LLC and the Mercer County Soil Conservation District. Courtney also taught as an adjunct professor at Stockton University for two years (2017-2018) teaching forest measurements.
