Everyone eventually has "to go", and planning ahead for that as a individual camper or a participant in a group is probably one of the several considerations that should be discussed or decided upon. As a female in the military that spent most of my field time in units that were mostly male (because that was just the natural ratio back then as there were much fewer women.. I'm 63 now....serious warriors both men and women had the integrity and character to talk about those kinds of things just like we talked about how to not put the kitchen downwind from the porta potty, or in absence of, where and how the "to go" function can be accomplished. I was a lot younger then and squatting was not such a problem. I can still do it but in a way of visualization it becomes quite the "ballet" to achieve. I like the bucket and cat litter idea much better and this day and age is much more sanitary in group camping scenarios. Very good video, and thanks for sharing the information.

Blackie. Great info and video. I was a Civil War reenactor for 15 years. When you mentioned the Ole Gatorade bottle, reminds me of those days camping out 1860's style. We used Gatorade bottles often, especially the "Old Timers." We had a nickname for the late night Gatorade bottle. We called it "Mr. Thirsty." Fond memories indeed. Thanks for the tid bit on the female way. I will definitely use that when the time arises. Very neat and my girlfriend will feel comfortable. Great idea. Thanks for sharing it.

Greetings Blackie- You bring up some good field hygiene points here that will make life more convenient while out camping. I remember years ago when I was in the Army, some young trooper had the brilliant idea to take a cutting torch and cut a hole out on the seat part of a metal folding chair. Well, that chair didn't work out to well- Thanks for the video and remember to watch out for them snakes and critters-

Amen brother! Are you sure you wasn't following me and my wife around when we were camping, LOL. I always used to do her a little private potty area when we camped out and when I went by myself or with the guys I was in a hammock and even when I was younger I used the P jug myself and I rolled to the edge of the hammock and let her rip. It was always a jug I could screw on the top real tight because the p jug stayed right above my pillow. I always had a way to keep The Jug on my arm so it wouldn't fall in case I dropped it. I heard you in another video talk about your hammock that you could hold in your hand with the big openings in it oh, well those were a whole lot easier than the ones now that are solid material. This whole thing might be a little bit long but I had told you at one point I was going to tell you a story about a hammock and me so here it goes. I had one of those moments in the middle of the night and didn't have my jug so I had to get out of my hammock, I took care of business I am starting to get back in my hammock and I missed and fell back into the mosquito net, upside down on my head. Well I finally got turned around where my head was up and I was calling for my grandson who wasn't 15ft from me and he would not wake up for nothing well to make a real long story short I got out of that mosquito net Got. Back in my hammock and finished the night's sleep. My grandson never heard a thing anyway that was my little hammock and me story. This was all a necessary video because no matter what you say or how you say it when you got to go you got to go thanks for the video stay safe

Just one of those Topics, Older wolves that get up numerous times at night, could be Prostate problems, check with a doctor. Now for the car camping wife, I bought one of those privy shelters, it folds up flat with the built in coiled poles, added the bucket loo years ago, Keeps her a happy camper, which makes me a happy camper. Remember, any human waste disposed in the outdoors Should be a 100 yds from Any water source and fella's stop peeing in the creeks.

Good thoughts. As someone who found out he had diabetes because of major bladder issues, less sugar intake seems to help for better hydration. The one thing that will throw off urine color is vitamins as many vitamin pills are not slow release and they will discolor your urine. Dehydration will cause muscle problems which makes pain. I have gone from getting up every hour last summer to once in a while during the night. Women who have had children usually have to go more frequently. You can train the bladder, but you need to ask your Doc about that. If I am on the road with any women in the vehicle, I pull over every hour to hour and half so they don't have to ask. If I am pushing it, I just ask. It's good to stop at least every two hours to stretch your legs and help your lower back.

👍👍👍 Good advice 😊. 73 summers under the belt and I'm fortunate in that I normally have to only 'tend fire' once, sometimes twice at night. That said, just as you say, I start each morning first thing on awakening with two glasses water out of the tap (tap water in my neck of the woods is potable). To make it easier to chug down, especially in winter, I fill a thermos flask with boiling water the previous day and keep it near the kitchen sink. A 50/50 mix of flask and tap goes down well. During the day (water is always close at hand .. having suffered from at times in the past, non voluntary, major thirst, water as always on hand 😏). When I 'gotta go' during the day (which can be often), I rehydrate after each 'passing'. Speaking of 'passing' .. at my age, when out shopping, in town, etc, I don't normally pass a 'public facility' without 'inspecting'' it. One never knows when the old bladder will want to summarily evict the tenants 😁. After dinner, no coffee or similar diuretics (alcohol) and water intake to a minimum. I do keep a bottle of water next to the bedside in case I need the occasional sip. Medication .. I try and avoid unless absolutely possible. My Doc agrees .. in that often, one med to alleviate a symptom can result in a side-effect that may require another med and so on .. Work on the Cause and not the Symptom. Once again, valuable advice, thanks for sharing .. take care ..

I was in renal failure twice, the first time was because of what I was drinking, I was at that time working grave yard shift 11 til 7, I would drink 3 or 4 red bulls every night and that cause my kidneys to shut down along with mountain dews, My kidney Dr told me not to ever drink any of those kind of drinks again or I would pay big time for it. The second time was from a surgery that went bad.

Great info. I actually have two of those loo kits I've made from advice my mom-mom (mom's mother) imparted to me when still young made from big camp pots. I use my loo kits if the sewers go out in my area during a hurricane or big storm. Boxes of good 6 gallon trash bags are what I use in them. I have cat litter and silica crystals on hand and place the loos in the shower/tub/bathroom floor. It depends if the lines are backing up. Wet towellets and decon spray (H2-O2) is in each kit. A breakdown bedside toilet, like used when ill, is also a great thing to have if you can't get up of those loos. concrete bricks for patios are also good to raise the loo. Due to traffic, I have taken one kit on road trips in my area since you can sit hours in traffic. Turn on your flashers and with a good blanket and no one has to know what you are doing in your own car. You could also carry a wag-bag, but I had bad experiences with those in a car. Just a small city silver wolves piece of wisdom to all. Take Care and Stay Safe people.

I feel bad now lol, I designate a quadrant on my left with no groundsheet, from halfwayish up the hammock to the tree, if I throw an extinguished cigarette or need a pee middle of the night, that's the place. My main pack has a 25l Nighthawk bucketseat in it so I 'could' fashion a proper toilet with that if I was staying somewhere a few nights but by and large thats intended for other uses, As in footspa, washbasin/sink/water carrier etc. But yes, a lot of folks 'forget' to accomodate the basic requirements despite being a survivalist/bushcrafter/prepper

Well, I think you are WRONG! Do *NOT* eat sugar, do *NOT* drink sugar! The older we are the more we should *avoid* sugar! I'm 68, I gave up on sugar & anything the body turns into sugar over 5 years ago. That includes wheat, potatoes, anything starchy foods. Those things don't grow wild, a little bit og fruit or berries may be OK for some. But those w/ 'sugar' issues should avoid ALL sugar like the plague. I've lost weight & gotten healthier by changing my diet & you can, too! Most folks have no idea how harmful sugar is to health. The 'medical advice' on sugar is plain wrong! There are any number of people that have found out for themselves they are healthier! Just by cutting out sugar! As for old guys going to make water, a lot of that is a mineral deficiency! But you are right about not drinking enough water, that will make it worse. Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!
