Silver Sugar Skulls - Sand Casting and Silver Pouring Techniques
Ойын-сауық
I tried sand casting Mexican Sugar Skulls for the first time and they came out pretty good! I experimented with two different techniques and even did a little artificial toning. If you're into silver pouring, I hope you enjoy this video. I even through in a little bit of informationa about the origins of sugar skulls. I'm always eager to learn so please feel free to offer suggestions in the comments section. As always, thank you for watching! ~T

Amazing T. They all look great, but I’m all about weight. The daddy wins my heart. Both methods worked out pretty good. the one where you packed the sand around the mold, the bigger the mold, the heavier the piece. Keep up the great pours and keep the great videos coming. 👍

Thanks a bunch! It's been fun learning different techniques!
I think the one that you screened the sand to make it finer, came out the best. But you could do that with the other style of pours as well. Just use the fine sand at the top before you press the mold in. Imo Beautiful art work!!

Thanks for watching! I offer my original silver pours on my weekend auctions. Next one is Sunday at 8:30 AM.
Nice work T, you are really doing well learning to pour silver. I found that if you tap the pour in the sand cast you can make some nice pour lines also if you try copper sometime be sure to use a separate crucible or they will cross contaminate. Copper has to get a little hotter or maybe just takes longer but it is fun to make one out of each metal. Keep having a great time.

Really like the quality of your experiment! I think you get _much_ better detail on the complex shapes that way. Stuff with straight edges or smooth surfaces work when pressing into the sand, but not so well with textured 3d's
