I hope you test your electrolysis solution for silver ! There is usually some left over in the solution that can be precipitated out as silver chloride with hydrochloric acid then converted. I know this video is supposed to be with no chemicals, but might be worth it to save your solution for later extraction !

Thanks for the vid kassi man. Some great pointers, a good start position, while you refine your process. I have a bucket of silver plate scrap, cant wait to give it a try... ill follow a similar, altered process. Thanks from Australia!

Good video. I have been wondering about safer ways to recover silver from plate. About how much silver plate material did you use to get that 7.4 grams in the end?

Seems like you'll need to do further refining since there is probably base metal mixed in the silver. I'd like to see the process in reverse... to plate silver on to worn silver plated items without poisonous chemicals and poisonous fumes.

Thank you for the video! The plan of action is to accumulate all of the items needed to implement this process and get a hold of free or cheap silverplate and then wait until the silver price stops being suppressed. When the price is over $500 an ounce (and it will be), get to work!

The demand for silver probably won't drive the price up very far. There are too many mines with silver content too low to justify specifically processing for it. However, if the price were to hit $52/oz again, like it did with the help of the Hunt brothers, then the supply of silver from these numerous low-grade deposits would dramatically increase. So, if silver hits above $75/oz, or so, it would probably be due to a weak US dollar (inflation).

Interesting video, but we don't know how much silver is there. It might be only about 10% Even if pure, that is an awful lot of time and effort for about $4 at market price - maybe $3 from a buyer.

At the time of this video silver prices were about $15.00 US per troy ounce. One troy ounce is about 31 grams. He recovered 7.2 grams of silver. So he ended up with less than $4.50 US worth of silver at 2018 prices. Actually, less because the silver he ended up with was not .999 silver. Closer to 90% pure silver. Not a very good return for all the effort. But the video was educational and entertaining.

That's a recovery. Not much of a refining, IMHO. You should throw that silver into a silver refining cell battery, and grow some PURE silver crystals with it. It will leave non-silver sludge behind. And I suspect you'll get a good amount of this non-silver sludge from this so-called 'refined' silver that you made.

  • @buggsy5

It is not pure enough to use a silver cell - the silver needs to be 98% pure, or better. The electrolyte would quickly get loaded with copper/zinc and possibly other metals.
