Did you know that almost everyone who is an adult has had a cavity at some point? A shocking 92 percent of adults ages 20 to 64 have had cavities in their permanent teeth, and 26 percent have cavities that haven't been treated. Since cavities are so common, it's a good idea to offer your employees dental insurance that covers fillings. Many plans cover silver fillings but not white ones, which can be confusing for you and your employees. Here's what you need to know about silver vs. white fillings so that if you get a cavity, you can choose the best type of filling for you.
Silver vs. White Fillings: How It Works
Dental amalgams, which are what silver-colored fillings are also called, are made of a mix of metals like silver, tin, copper, and mercury. Composite fillings, which are what white fillings are also called, are made of plastic and ceramic. Both types of fillings can be used to fix cavities, but many dental insurance plans only cover silver fillings. Some employees may worry about this, but there are good reasons for this rule.
What's the Difference Between Silver and White Fillings?
Silver fillings are very strong, so they are a good choice for back teeth that take a lot of pressure, like molars. Silver fillings are also made of a material that hardens more quickly, making it easier for dentists to put them in moist places like under the gum line. Also, silver fillings are cheaper than white fillings, which is good for your budget. The colour is the best thing about white fillings. If you get a cavity in a part of your mouth that is easy to see, you may want a filling that matches your teeth. But these fillings aren't as strong as silver ones, so they may not last as long. White fillings are also more likely to cause recurrent decay, which is when cavities form underneath a filling. Silver fillings are less likely to do this.
Choosing Fillings
Some employees might be worried about the fact that mercury is in silver fillings. You can reassure them that silver fillings have been used for more than 100 years and that many studies have shown that they are safe. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Dental Association, and the World Health Organization all agree that silver fillings are safe. This is because the mercury is bound to other metals, which keeps it stable. Also, the mercury in dental fillings isn't the same kind of mercury (methylmercury) that is found in tuna and other fish and can cause health problems. Another possible worry is that silver fillings won't look good because they don't match the colour of your teeth. Luckily, cavities usually happen in places that are hard to see, so it doesn't matter what colour the filling is. Even though it's possible to get a cavity on the front of a tooth, it's not likely to happen because it's easy to clean. Cavities tend to form in places that are hard to clean with a toothbrush, like the grooves of molars, under the gum line, or around the edges of crowns.

siir can you please answer my question? Meine do danto mein filling karvai thi...karvane k bad dand ki edges mein khana khane k time (jese dant khatte ho gaye ho uss type k) sensitivity rehti hein....pani ya liquid se sensitivity nahi hoti.....but chabane k time dono danto mein koi ek point pe mujhe extrime level k sensitivity ho rahi hein(like, dant khatte ho jana k bad khana khane se hota hein wesa) ....agar me dant k wo perticular jagah pe stick ko halka halka rubbung karta hu fir b mujhe bahut sensitiviity feel hoti hein.....me waha pe khana nahi kha pa raha......meine 5 time filling change karvai fir b koi solution nahi mil raha....GIC karvai thi to thik ho gaya tha...lekin wo tikti nahi hein.....could you please suggest permanent solution??? 🙏

Gold is the best by far, but expensive. Silver/amalgam comes in on a strong second place. Composite should be avoided except for front teeth, and GIC should definitely be avoided like the plague.

GIC is horrible. It will only result in further toothdecay. Extremely short lifespan. Composite is a tiny bit better, but also cytotoxic and genotoxic, and I would avoid them for anything but front teeth. Silver/amalgam is very good, and affordable. Gold is extremely good, but expensive.
