Silky Saws - Silky Bigboy 2000 XL & Silky Katanaboy - My two favorite Silky Saws

Silky Saws - Silky Bigboy 2000 XL & Silky Katanaboy - My two favorite Silky Saws
This is a follow up video on my path to find the perfect Silky Saws for my outdoor experiences. I felt like the Silky Bigboy with the red handle and the large tooth blade was just not quite durable enough for my long term survival needs. Thanks to a lot of communication with several great folks at Silky and Sherrill Tree I think I've found the combination of Silky saws that is going to work best for me. The Silky Bigboy 2000 XL for my INCH pack, and the Silky Katanaboy for my back country rig.

    +campfire52 For sure my friend. I"ve had a lot of saws but nothing that comes close to the cutting ability of these. I had some issues with the durability of that one model. But so far the rest are working out great for me. I'll let you know if I run into any problems with them. But so far I"ve put a lot of work in with them and I'm really happy.

    Thanks for the review Coyote =) I carry two saws in my truck - a curved blade (not fold-able) and a thin-blade (almost hacksaw-like). I've been hesitant to buy a Silky but after your demo I'm bumping it up on my "to-get" list. Keep up the great videos!

    +Skills2Survive I think the Silky Big Boy XL 2000 is the one to get for all around back woods, packing, bushcraft type use. For processing firewood, building shelter, cutting poles, etc. it is amazingly efficient. The Katanaboy is awesome, but really best suited for the larger chores like cutting a down tree from the road, or bucking larger logs. If you are only going to get one to start with I would go with the XL 2000. Cheers Casey

    Well, after watching your demonstration with me and then checking out a couple other reviews, my hubby bought me the Katanaboy for an anniversary gift! I just opened it tonight. It's awesome-looking and I can't wait to use it! We'll probably also get the Bigboy 2000 XL on your recommendation. Thanks, Casey!

    +momz13 So far I've had no issues with those two saws. I've cut through some SERIOUS timber with that Katanaboy too! That saw is a beast. So far the XL 2000 is also working great for me. I really like the curved blade on it. It makes it possible to do some really effective cutting with one hand. Cheers Casey

    +NorwegianWoods You won't be disappointed. I would suggest based on my experience that if you are planning on using them similar to the way that I do that you get the yellow handled Silky Bigboy XL 2000. Between the curved blade, and slight increase in thickness it definitely seems better suited to the hard unconventional woods use. And man that thing is a cutter. Crazy how much easier processing firewood gets with a saw that cuts that efficiently. Cheers Casey

    Great video. And it's really nice to hear that Silky and Sherrill Tree got a hold of you. That's pretty cool. Good to know they're interested in proactive customer service. I've wondered specifically about Silky Europe... I had a few emails go unanswered back around Christmas. Sherrill Tree has been excellent whenever I asked questions.

    +Essential Gear & Useful Skills Yeah. They were just awesome to deal with. All seemed like great people. They suggested that part of the issue may be how I was using the product, but very quickly started asking me questions and doing research to figure out what models would work better for my style of use. They confirmed blade thicknesses, checked on differences between blades produced for the Japanese market vs. those produced for the US market, and ultimately helped me land on a couple models that so far are working really well for me. I'll keep you guys updated but right away I can tell the Silky Bigboy XL 2000 is a much better saw for my use than the red handled large tooth Bigboy was. And the Katanaboy is just at a whole new level of cutting. Cheers Casey

    SilkyEurope I have been planning to do a video regarding all four sizes of teeth available for many of the folding saws (some only have 3 sizes, but many have 4). I have been unable to collect all four blades for any of them. I can always get large and medium teeth for any of my Silky Saws, but fine are more rare and ultrafine are nearly impossible to obtain. I've done videos on every single Silky Folding Saw now (with the exception of the Katanaboy 650 and the straight blade Ultra Accel). So, I own everything from the pocketboys to the F180 to all of the Gomboys to the BigBoy 2000 and the Katanaboy 500. and the ultra accel curved and also the super accel... I'd sure like to be able to get fine/ultra-fine/and Large for my pocketboy 130 or get medium and fine for my gomboy 300... It would make a good educational video to show people what the different teeth are good at.

    Hello and thank you for the video. Is there really that much of a difference between large teeth and extra large teeth. I know I want to get the Kantaboy in extra large teeth as it is definitely a two-handed saw. But in the big boy, would extra large teeth be too difficult to pull with one hand if you had to support a log with the other hand? Thank you for your time.

    Great review Casey, so am I to understand the XL 2000 is a thicker blade than the standard Bigboy? I love my BigBoy but like you I have had blade failure. Jason

  • @CoyoteWorks01

    @CoyoteWorks01

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Primal Outdoors It is a slightly thicker (thusly more rigid) blade. Not much, but enough that I notice the difference. Also I find with the curved blade it bites in to the wood on each pull stroke even better. It's a small thing but I feel like it makes me have even less of a tendency to want to put pressure on the blade. Cheers, Casey

Genuinely nice people who really seemed interested in helping me have a better experience with their products. I really appreciate that in a company. Far too many companies these days just don't have that level of commitment to their users. Cheers Casey

    +Coyote Works loyalty to a product and its buyers is rapidly becoming a thing of the past.I have suffered thru this being a home builder.I grew up going to a local lumber store with my father to being a valued customer as grown man and a contractor.They had to close their doors and all that is left is Lowes and Home depot.They both sell you Crap with a sense of entitlement.They treat you like you should be thankful they will even take your money Full of punk little kids that could not wipe there ass if mommy did not fill toilet paper dispenser for them.It is good to hear of a company taking pride in their product.

  • @CoyoteWorks01

    @CoyoteWorks01

    7 жыл бұрын

    +ya00007 I would reccommend the Bigboy XL 2000 with the yellow handle. The bladed is curved which really improves the cutting, and the blade is a bit thicker which makes it just a bit more durable for hard use. Any of the Bigboy Saws I've used are incredible cutters. But I would give the nod to the Bigboy XL 2000 for woods use for sure. Cheers my friend!

    +MARCVS SPARTACVS They said a couple things contributed. Mainly the fact that particular model of Silky Bigboy has a bit thinner blade than some of their other models of saws. As such, it isn't the best for the hard field use. It's more designed for the pruning/landscaping type environment. It's still a good back country saw, but you do need to use it more carefully. Basically I'm putting the saws to work in one of the hardest situations for them to hold up to which is cutting large volume at awkward angles, etc. This means the blades take a lot more flex and stress and on that particular saw they will fail sooner. They suggested that one of their traditional fixed blade saws, the Silky Bigboy XL 2000, or the Silky Katanaboy would work better for me. So I picked up the Bigboy XL 2000 and the Katanaboy. So far they both seem to be working much better, and holding up longer than the red handled Bigboy did for me.

    +Coyote Works I think probably the best easily available thing might be the wax used on skis or snow boards. It's pretty hard and formulated not to easily rub off. I have something made for wood working planes. But the ski stuff is probably more readily available on Amazon.
