-----
Well well well... Bruno Mars is back with Anderson .Paak as Silk Sonic, with Leave The Door Open. Such a cool tune, so had to bust out the digital pen and get to work! So many tasty fills to pillage for your own use!
I transcribed the bass and removed it from the original using iZotope RX Music Rebalance. This is what allows me to be so anal with the note lengths and articulations in the score. There's one errant staccato dot in the first bar of the first pre-chorus (Ebmaj9) but apart from that, the score is law and anything I played different is all on me.
Score available at my website. No sign up required, just head over to www.liamgaughan... and head to Transcriptions!
Thanks for watching!

    This bass line is masterful. Intricate rhythm, fills over the bar line, and hits almost every one of those upper extensions somewhere in the groove. Wish I could write this well.

    Man that was an excellent rendition. I’m gonna attempt to play this one. It’s a throwback to the 70’s music and the funky bass. Growing up in that era the bass players ruled in funk music. Can you do a rendition of Flashlight by Parliament Funkidelics . Man if you’ve never heard it , you should because it’ll bring joy to your fingers. 😎 This was a one the tunes I played when I was learning to play bass. I stopped playing and now I’m trying to get it back. Thank you for your videos. Peace out.

    2 жыл бұрын

    I just opened the session, there was a high pass at 45hz, and a 1db boost at 87hz.... honestly that's basically no EQ at all. The sound was from a Guitar Rig 5 preset - Precise Bottom, which has a high end roll off basically. But my playing style really doesn't put much energy in that range at all. Play soft, close to the neck and you'll get a darker tone :) Cheers

    Fair call for the keyboard on it's own perhaps, but there's a 9th in the strings melody (Db, Ab, Eb , back down to C) which I probably thought is worth including harmonically. There might be a 9 in the vocal stack that also made me pick that chord symbol as well for every chorus, I can't be certain what made me pick maj9 over maj7 but it was probably one of those two. Thanks for watching :)

    I am not a bassist, so maybe someone can help me out: why does the bass fit so effortlessly-or soar-in measure 13-14. It’s like pure magic there.

  • @LiamGaughan

    @LiamGaughan

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey. There's a couple of things happening. One is the key change, which is quite bold, and then also the playing becomes more legato with more extensions, the little legato slide up from the octave to 9 and maj3rd just sounds really nice. Note in the verse before, lots of space is left for the snare on beat 2. In this section, we're now playing over it slightly more, with longer notes as well giving a thicker overall sound to that section. Instrumentally the song thickens there as well. The bass certainly changes but other things do too, like the strings and the piano and the cumulative effect adds up to something spectacular. Thanks for watching!
