If it's not specified in the rules, I'd say the SJ Radar won't be included on your boat until after your patrol and you perform rest/refit. It wouldn't make sense for new equipment to be included until you've reached a friendly port.

I hadn't thought of that but that makes a lot of sense! I mean it would be one thing with escort detection +1, but that are enemy ships. I agree that it wouldn't make sense that your ship suddenly has new equipment and next time that I'll play I won't play it like that. Thanks for your feedback and thanks for watching!

Believe it or not, in one of my games I performed 3 emergency appendectomy operations. I felt that I was on a hospital ship. Funny how quirky dice can act. Enjoyed your replay and certainly agree that The Hunters is a more enjoyable game. Best wishes. (The operations were all successful).

@@m_tulla4327 Well first if all I enjoyed the theme of the hunters more. Chasing Convoys with a German u-boat after watching das boot is something special. I also liked the way that game builds up, becoming increasingly difficult throughout the game. Silent Victory is the other way around, it becomes easier. Also I was a little bothered with the errata of Silent Victory, it took me quite a few days to clarify a lot of the rules and I did not feel that was the case with the Hunters.

I think the meaning goes a bit deeper than that but yeah merchant ships (and non warships) used maru as a suffix. Maru means "circle" and was applied in the hopes the ship would have luck and makes its "round" trip. I think I read that in Ian Tolls "Pacific " trilogy...

Liking it even before watching to the end (but don't worry: I'm going to in short anyway) because I greatly appreciate the effort of taking the time to record sessions of long(ish) games like this one! That being said, I'd still prefer the Atlantic theatre of operations (i.e. The Hunters/d) but you already knew that... ;-)

...just a generic tip (good for all games in Greg Smith's submarine series): you should *always* roll to identify the maximum amount of ships in a convoy (i.e. 4) because this way you increase your chances of getting a(nother) "4","5" or "6", which could then reveal itself to be a juicier target than, for example, the only "5" you rolled out of three dice...

Good paly though though break at the end. Early war scenarios are frustrating with the amount of duds as I see yours compounded by dice rolls. Good recovery on most rules and process mistakes. One to point out, patrols are one month not two in both Hunters and SS. The 'P' comes into play in Hunters for extended patrols in the Type IX and VIID boats.

That's proof that Kruppstahl is Kruppstahl, and that the Americans made much thinner subs i.e. more prone to imploding ;-D Anyway, good playthrough! A few small mistakes here and there didn't detract at all from the enjoyability of the viewing experience. Still... it definitely seems easier than The Hunters (although that's historically accurate, given the enormously lower figure of losses suffered by US subs compared to German ones).

@@Obalcan Uhm, I don't have the figures at hand but, given that historically Germany produced a total of 1.162 U-Boats and 785 of them were destroyed, I'd say it's definitely more than 20% (67,5% after doing a quick math)... Of course this takes into account the whole war but a horrendous amount of boats were lost during 1943 alone (especially during "Balck May"), so I'd say around 40-50% or so...

@@micheleb1421 ok, thanx, sounds reasonable still. In The Hunted chanches for survival are around 20-30%, eh? So when you wanna go on vacation you board the American sub and when you wanna get spanked, you board the Kraut sub in later years and when you wanna have both of these elements you go with the The Hunters. And when you want some pizza you go with Beneath the Med. See, you need them all (when errata gets fixed). :)
