    Man, the idea behind The New Eternity, the realization about the myth of one final act of violence being able to end all violence, has changed me forever. We’re seeing this myth play out once again...people now think if we burn enough buildings and kill enough people then eventually racism and violence based upon it will end forever. I’m not sure what’s more depressing - that people believe the myth, or the realization that it will most likely never end any time within the lifetime of anyone currently alive. 😞

    In response to Garret's comments on the visible unseen, I understand his heart to show love and compassion towards the youth that he met that have been disowned by their religious families. I agree with his emphasis of anyone homosexual bearing the image of God and being loved by Him regardless of who they are. But all of man was made broken by sin. At the very deepest part of our heart, there lies a nature inherently rebellious and contradictory to what God says is right. We've got to accept that. The truth to embrace isn't just that God doesn't hate us because we sin in some way, it's that God sent us to the earth in our broken state to be restored by a relationship with Him. The comfort of God's love comes in that He loves in spite of who we are; not in utter disregard for it.

  • @davidpagano675

    @davidpagano675

    5 жыл бұрын

    1877theflip I was about to comment on the very same thing. 5 years ago I was in a homosexual relationship. As such I experienced a lot of judgement and really nasty things from so caked Christians. 4 years ago I was confronted with the Truth of the Gospel and the reality of Jesus being the King of kings and the God of gods. I became aware that I was going held accountable for everything I said and did in this life and He was my Judge. With the revelation of God’s perfect justice also came the revelation of His great mercy and kindness toward me through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. That He grants forgiveness to anyone that repents of their sins and puts their faith in Christ to wash them clean of all the filth we’ve partaken of and imparts His righteousness to us. It was actually the day that I met my wife that I gave my life to Jesus. God is so faithful!! I will say this. Not everyone is a child of God. In the gospel of John 1:12 “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name”. I will tell you this. I was offended by the truth of the Gospel before I was set free by the Truth. Dr Michael Brown is someone I greatly respect and he has dealt honestly and compassionately with the LGBT community in a biblical way. He does not compromise his convictions that homosexuality is sin, but he does it in such a way that extends mercy, grace and love anyone in that lifestyle. May God grant wisdom and understanding in the knowledge of Him and may He open the eyes and hearts of anyone struggling with the Truth of God’s Word; Christian or not.

    mpk 666 Sexuality is a choice. I choose fidelity to my wife. Attractions may not always be a choice right off the bat, but that’s why we practice self control. Probably doesn’t mean much to a complete stranger, but I don’t have any attraction to men. And even if that were the case, the fact remains, I chose my wife and said no to any other. It might sound strange to hear that the Bible is actually God’s inspired Word and Jesus is actually who he said he was/is. He is actually healing/delivering/transforming people still to this day.. Literally all around the world. I’m an example of someone that’s done horrible thing in my life before Christ, but I know with everything in me that I’m forgiven. I actually know what it feels like to be innocent. To know God personally and not just read about him in some ancient book. He is alive from the dead never to die again and he is come to redeem humanity from a state of complete depravity. He will return to judge in righteousness and justice. You may think it’s foolish and stupid. Regardless of what you believe, I pray that you would seek out the truth of who Jesus is for yourself. Ask, seek, knock... Go in peace. Whoever you are 😁🙏

    why have us “broken” in the first place then? why do all of us have to be “broken” just because Eve ate a fruit? a fruit that would give us knowledge? it’s kinda hard to trust a god who set up a system in which we were so destined to fail.

    @@marc0d0n Man brought sin into the world through free will of his own, and was corrupted. What does God do despite the fact that man does not listen to God? He makes a way by sacrificing His son, so that we are not totally disconnected from God. It is man's fault for not listening to God, and he still does not listen in the present time. He loves evil, and his pride will destroy him, because that is what he has chosen, regardless of his many chances to correct himself.

    The album art is a depiction of "The New Eternity" stated in the beginning of the Bible (Genesis), the world being formless and void. formless and void basically (according to Bible nerds) is when the world that we know of today was in complete chaos. The underlying theme is that God is the only one able to create order from chaos, just as what Christians believe God will do I the future: bring our chaos into a new order, "The New Eternity."

    But the Bible itself was not written by God, but rather through God's disciples who are imperfect beings. Couple this with all the translations the Bible had to go to in order to be here for you in English, it is entirely possible men for their own wicked gain (either for power or other motives) inserted stories they wanted in there. It is equally likely controversial stores were removed by translators not interested. Comparing old Hebrew text, you will see some areas are quite different. Finally, to say God doesn't teach through myth or metaphor is to deny Christ ever shared the parables. If we understand God, we know he has often used stories or parables to help us conceptualize morals that are very difficult if taught as a text book. This is ultimately Garrett's point- regardless of your own feelings of stories like Tower of Babel, the message presented is the more important part. If we get caught up in particulars we are no better than Pharisees.

    @@InTheTornado Yes. I still disagree. I was not defined by my sexuality until I was in a relationship 21 years into my life. Before then my sexuality was only a side thought. To say "sexuality is everything" is to degrade those that have been focusing on a ton of other things besides that. So if sexuality is everything was I nothing when my sexuality was of little relevance?

    It's not simply sexual activities, it is a broad term that encompasses many different behaviors: physical, emotional, social, etc. For instance, being a boy has shaped the way you think, walk, talk and interact with others before you were 21 or in a relationship.

    If you read their footnotes, Garret references scripture just about as much as secular philosophers. Just because something isn't explicitly Christian doesn't mean it doesn't contain truth.

    @@pointdotpoint your upbringing surely has an effect on your beliefs and actions. But there comes a point where you decide what you believe in and what you stand for. Not what other tell you to believe. Garrett was shaped into the person he is by his past experiences. Those past experiences are what dictates what he stands for.
