Silent Planet - Northern Fires (Guernica)

Ration my breath - terror clandestine in my chest. Mangled, I lay on a foreign forest floor. [1] Caught in an instant, divided by distance. Alone in the fray, clutching my trigger I pray as I make amends with death on a distant shore. [2]
Such is the fate of the nation state [3] (despite the myths they propagate). [4] The narrative never fits the crime. Democracy’s died this death a thousand times. The masses kneel before the golden cross - held by the priest [5] who bows at the feet of the king. [6]
We stand alone in the dust of what could be, fighting to find our humanity.
Bury me with my name in an unmarked grave - another casualty to the vanity of history. [7] The war marches on after the killing ends. [8] Take our lives: Colonize our minds. [9]
I’ve been digging through timelines, historical bylines; I find the fatal flaw in our design lies between thoughts we had and words we knew [10] - between what we’re told and what is true. [11] Who fuels the fascist? [12] A classist - inculcating the masses in passes... under the contrived countenance of contrition. [13]
The victor writes the story [14] - more often burns the manuscript. Set fire to a pyre, cremate the crimes that they commit. [15] But the flames kept us warm, so we bit our tongues and tasted scorn.
The bitter stench of finite men betrayed by the thieves they swore to pretend. The bell will toll [16] and in the end lay only echoes of what could have been. [17]
We stand alone in the dust of what could be, fighting to find our humanity. We stand alone in the dust of what could be; nothing we fought for will set us free. [18]
Throw myself, headlong, to the jaws of the beast: [19] The war machine that feeds for eternity.
Throw myself, headlong, to the jaws of the beast: The war machine that turns for eternity.
Throw myself, headlong, to the jaws of the beast: The war machine that feeds for eternity.
Throw myself, headlong, to the jaws of the beast: The war machine that turns for eternity.

Honestly, I agree. I’m an atheist so this band kinda turned me off with the religious undertones at first. But the more I listened the more I realized there are so many secular themes in their songs that are extremely important, relevant and powerful. Now I can’t stop listening to them. These guys are incredibly talented
Every single song they make seems to be nothing short of a masterpiece. This is brutal. This is artistic. This is critical and beautiful. Really well done! Also Kudos to the video editor.

And now I see it was true lol

Rob duff There's a phrase in the music/art world that great artists steal from a lot of different sources. The fact that Garrett is able to make coherent songs on so many topics, with so many references, is just a testament to his ability as a lyricist and as a student of knowledge (that's a dumb phrase but I can't think of a better way to say it). As far as complexity goes, I'd put him up there with Aaron Weiss of Mewithoutyou. It's definitely a different style of writing, though; in going for the powerful, simplistic side, I can't help think of Marvin Gaye or Neil Young, which lyrically have just a different effect.
This guy is secretly a history professor...lets just not deny this.
NINETEEN ANNOTATIONS!? Garrett went all out this time folks.

As a spanish who lost someone in our civil war, this is truly emotional. It's necessary to make visible the victims. Thank you Silent Planet.
Silent Planet is a gift from God. So good guys. Lover for life.
I remember the week long lecture we had on Guernica in College. One of Picasso's greatest and most disturbing paintings in my opinion. Not surprised at all that Silent Planet would find inspiration in it, it's such a truly tragic tale.Thank you Silent Planet, for creating the music we need, whether or not we're ready for the difficult truths it has us accept.

This is magical, and the synth at the start although only a small part of the song is everything. I love this.
@ar.ninetysix

Casey Walle believe it or not, that synth effect can be achieved with guitars and pedals. I remember their guitarist doing a live video on Instagram where he showed part of his recording process, and you could hear him doing similar effects there
This band is underrated because feeble minds can't keep up with the lyricism.

Well you did it again, made me cry... such amazing lyrics, rhythm, melody... I can't believe it
I don't always agree with the message of the lyrics, but that doesn't take away from the fact this bands material is without a doubt some of the most thought provoking, musically appealing material of just about any band out there. Great job.

@@apvcore Be careful with that sentiment. As the song even states "The victor writes the history but more often burns the manuscript." In fact America is dealing with this now with Julian Assanage and the other whistleblowers.
I waited patiently for a new song and as always, was not disappointed. You guys are absolutely amazing at your work, a gift for the music industry tbh.
An absolute trifecta of wonder: Work of art for a music video (well executed and linked to the lyrics of the song), an absolute gargantuan of a track, a well researched/thought out lyrics. Legendary job!
SLNTPLNT continues to capture cerebral chaotic cadences. Garrett’s lyricism is infectious.
Another album to pre-order then
Watching every day, how goverments spread lies, how people forget what love means, how we spend our time watching stupid videos on the internet, I am grateful that I can find myself with every song of Silent Planet. Such an unique band, nothing compares to time, when I just explore their newest songs. Kiitos, my friends. You are the light that shines in darkness. Never stop making music, I mean art.

Incredible single! Garrett's spit after the first chorus is freakin' epic :D
For me it’s official that basically no other artist can even come close to Silent Planet‘s lyrical content. I mean look 19(!!) annotations? They could pretty much cover world history in an album. One of the shooting stars of the modern metal scene, hands down.
Gah the lyrics of this band are absolutely amazing. Huge respect for the amount of time that goes into them, as well as all the other music. Anytime I want to learn something, SP lyrics is where i go. The annotations are great
Seriously, this is awesome! I have no words for this! Just... deep! Very deep! Wonderful music! Thanks for this.
they are really pushing the metalcore djent genre! always up with their sick tracks! good jobs my dudes!
I never know what to expect from a Silent Planet song. The Alex’s drumming and Mitch’s writing flow so well together. Garret is a mad man. Thomas just gets better at singing in every record. Hehehe
30 seconds in and I'm already getting massive chills. What a gorgeous song!
Been listening to this song on repeat. The riffs and the vocals flow in a very exhilarating way. Can't wait to hear the rest!
Nothing will ever be better than native blood for me but every song you guys push out is always nothing short of perfection and I thank you
Just heard this song on Spotify after trilogy blew up a while ago. Holy shit. I had no idea this band was so technical in lyricism, let alone instruments! I’m only two songs deep and I’m already in love! I seriously can’t wait to dissect every song in their discography!
the bit where he raps the lyrics is so dope
Lyrics and annotations!? Way to set the new standard, fucking awesome to see that much effort put in. Really shows how much you care about what you're putting out there.
Awesome song! This guys are so underrated is a crime. Always learning new words with these guys, amazing lyrics.
One of the best Songs that I've ever heard
The imagery makes it so aesthetical, the lyrics that could be so meaningless are so meaningful, you truly putting up some high quality in metal.
Garrett's lyrics still continue to amaze me. So good!

The vocal pattern/phrasing at 1:35 was awesome. Garrett is a beast!
