Fortunately for USS Perch The Dutchman knows who is an enemy to her living countrymen. The Japanese Had recently Invaded the Dutch East Indies, and the Flying Dutchman took that personally!

Crew needs to buy all the lottery tickets that they can find when they get back to the barn. 6 shots, 6 hits, and 6 detonations? To quote Vizzini: "INCONCEIVABLE!"

Those crewmen manning the AA gun on the destroyer looked like they were just chilling on a couch until it got really close! 😄

Fantastic work there taff, that Kongo class is an incredible trophy to the collection, the IJN is going to be humiliated with that so early in the war. It's barely even the battle of the Coral sea and the IJN has gotten a nasty black eye for It's troubles. Keep sinking those merchants, the IJA and IJN war efforts will be crippled good and proper, greatest day in the Pacific so far. Keep it up mate, excellent episode, well done mate 👏 👍

you dont need 4 torps to sink a battle ship , just plum one under the engine area and it will sink - Tip

@@joeaustin4472 analyze the course , angle the torpedoe , time the shot for a few second difference , wind speed and wave height if needed , possible hit will be in the rear end or the engine , ship will come to a dead stop

@@creatorsfreedom6734 Well yeah obviously, but let's hope the enemy ship isn't aware of what's coming before impact, the enemy sees the wake and takes evasive action. Mind you I suppose that's the fun of the challenge, HMS Ark Royal she was only killed with a single torpedo.. so yes.. calculation and surprise.. always pays off. Good stuff 👍

Wow, six Mark-14 torpedoes fired, six successful detonations. Suggest a seminar of US submarine skippers should be scheduled for you to instruct them on how to get them to work.

78,000 Tonnes made that the most successful single war patrol of a US Submarine in WW2. The real life honor goes to Joseph F. Enright, the captain of the USS Archerfish. They sank the Aircraft Carrier Shenano and was credited with a ship of 50-70,000 tonnes. That being the only ship they sunk that war patrol that puts the tonnage crown at 70,000.

You can go lower with the deck gun - zoom back out -- also, even though you didn't do it - the game gives you a "shakedown patrol". It will always report 1 more patrol that you have done

The shakedown patrol is cut content isnt it? I remember quite a few modpacks reintroducing it.

For me in wots the IJN subs absolutely suck. they never hit my ships. One tried to torpedo my carriers and the torpedoes ran under her. She was sunk

Of course, in real life ... all your torpedoes: broached then ran in circles, ran deep, exploded prematurely, hit and failed to explode or hit and exploded with only partial detonation, especially on your 90 degree stern tube shots. Leaving the Kongo to sail merrily on its way with only a small dent to show for your efforts, while you had to go deep whilst stifling your curses! 😇 Someone ought to make a Real Life MKXIV Torpedo Performance (aka ... Rage Quit) Mod ...

Point of history...Th MK14, had bad firing pins in the detonaters. AND, seal problems, on the detonaters, "wet powder" don't go off for SHYT! And IF the damn things didn't go WONKY, a 70degree angle of impact was optimum...considering the cuss factor too...😂😂

I think you are going to have to name your sub the Dutchman's Friend after that effort. Nicely done although the luck on all your Mk 14s working perfectly is probably going to have the Dpt of Ordinance refusing to do anything to fix them for another year.

13:45 In case anyone's interested, although I'll admit that could have been Kongo that Taff sunk, I think it was much more likely Haruna that USS Perch managed to bag, given where all the Kongo-class ships were historically at this point in the war. Hiei and Kirishima were even further away, according to historical records...

The dud rate was actually nerfed by the SH4 game designers, even with duds turned on. They thought players would get frustrated with the historical 50% dud rate 🙂

@@garytwinem5275 : If I was playing, the historical dud rate would be fine for me. I'd happily cope with it by firing twice the number of fish I would normally - so 2 fish at a small ship, 4 at a big one, 6 at a huge one. Anyway, conserving ammunition is not the American way of war - 'spray and pray' is more their style. To Americans, there's no such thing as shooting too many bullets...

I think someone on that Kongo saw the Dutchman first. You certainly were doom for her.

Definitely had to get back to port for tea and medals after that patrol! Good kill.

This battleship may not be Kongo. You never know in these games what specific ship you sank. You just know the class. However despite taff sinking this Kongo it respawns on his next patrol I think

Taff, that was a surface detection radar. You put it in the air search radar slot. Not sure it will work.

I think your CO is channeling the real life "mush" Morton of USS Wahoo...very very aggrssive and sank ANYTHING he ran across no matter HOW difficult a task.

Need to be careful of unescorted ships. It may be escorted, just not by a surface ship. 21:53. The 2 war patrols were dropping off the observer, and the the China Sea. One thing that sucks, is only the commanding officer get that medal. The guys who did all the heavy lifting await him to sign off any medals awarded to the crew.

32:54 - Should've upgraded both the AA gun and the deck gun. You have a 3 .50-cal and a 4 .50-cal. was available, and you could've swapped your single-mount AA for a twin-mount.

Nice kill on the Kongo - but disappointed at the lack of a Japanese destroyer response. Sadly, I fear that this campaign will continue to be an easy turkey shoot from start to finish, as Normal Difficulty in SH4 appears equivalent to Easy Difficulty in SH3.

Do you get bonus skills for playing Edward "Butch" O'Hare, the US Navel ace that has an airport named after him? Or is this some other serviceman with a similar name?

IIRC Chicago's airport is named after Butch. Taff's character is named Buck O'Hare, which I think is one of the default names for the campaign.
