Silent Hill 2: Promise/Theme of Laura
Музыка
I was inspired to make this after watching the video where Akira Yamaoka plays both songs at Video Games Live during TGS '09. The video basically consists of the intro of Silent Hill 2. I just added a little something at the beginning and end to accommodate the audio.
The track itself is just a short segment of Promise followed by Theme of Laura with a little element of The Reverse Will. It's basically the same as the live version.

MissToxicc Life is Strange is a different kind of art. It certainly isn't trash like Telltale games. It does have elements of Twin Peaks which was the base inspiration to many tv shows and games, shows like Stranger Things, X-Files, and games like Silent Hill, Life is Strange and Deadly Premonition.

@@captasticts8419 tbf I'd love to hear what you think is 'better' - it's entirely subjective of course so it's not like I'll tell you you're 'wrong' or anything but there was a similar thread above and the 'better/as good' more recent games people mentioned up there I really think are just mediocre - on the other hand I much prefer SH1 to SH2 so again each to their own. I do think that the bar for what an 'excellent game' is these days comes across as being far lower to me and the only argument I ever hear in newer games' defense is that they are technically far more complex which I feel is redundant and not reflective of a products quality - much in the same way that the cg filled MCU films I feel have absolutely nothing on a movie like Nosferatu or say Blade Runner. I think that gaming as an industry has reached the point where it makes so much money and has such a wide audience that making products based singularly on passion or creativity is unlikely in order to meet a large audience which of course most already agree with but on top of that lots of 'intellectual' hipsters online have taken to superficially critiquing games based on shallow observations and trends which has absolutely led to some games (SH2) getting praise blown way out of proportion and others (the 64 castlevanias as an example, AitD3, SystemShock 1) are treated as 'garbage' in hilariously inaccurate ways. This has led to games in the indie crowd getting praise based on these more shallow observations and for the fact that they are unlike the more broad appeal 'mainstream'/triple A games yet the vast majority of these that I have played are hardly what I'd personally consider 'classics' or anything close to the quality of games like SH2. I do feel that games as a whole are rarely anywhere near as 'good' as they once were and that isn't nostalgia or anything like that - that's not to say that they can't be nor that they never are but generally speaking that is the impression I most often get. Creativity matched with productivity was probably at something of a peak around very late 90s-mid 00s I think.

And the most terryfying and sad thing in this pure LOVE story, is that he (James) was kill his true love by his own hands... SH was really a great and climatic game, but SH2 was a true MASTERPIECE and one of the most epicness game in whole video game history imho (ex equo with FFVII). There was no better game till this day and i think that never will be the better game than these two.

Quite a true one in some respects, that it look at the fact, for James there was more for killing his wife then to simply put her out of her misery, it talks about how much suffering he had to go through as well, but instead of seeing him as a simple murderer it seems him as complicated.
@frostwitch7234

I don't see what he did as murder. I see it as mercy. His wife was terminal and suffering in constant agony. He gave her peace. SH2 happened because he couldn't live with the choice he made. It tortured him. The one person he loved the most; it ate away at him. He had to go back and set it right.

I know its an old post, but i want to comment it anyway. I just dont think that a 2-2.5 hour-film would be able to capture the beauty of silent hill 2, because some of it is too subtle, and would probably be cut in the final project. I wish they made short series like American Horror Story, that would be much more enjoyable. Knowing a little bit of the background of each character, but still leaving some blanks to our imagination would be sublime.

It is crazy to think that I played this game while young and I never imagined that I would ever end like James... I lost my wife and my daughter 2 years ago (serious), and every day it keeps getting harder. Only good thing is that I have a life treating disease, which I am not deciding to treat. I discovered this song (and the game SH 2 obviously) in January 2021, a little late I know. The corona pandemic was at its height, being pretty much trapped at home through dark winter days and isolation. This game struck me right away. As someone who hasnt played the game back in the days, I can confirm its amazing. I can't think of another horror game with a story more emotional. I felt like this game was made for me, Im sure a lot of people can relate. James Sunderland grew to be an amazingly complex character and the entire story hit me harder than I expected. The first time hearing "Theme Of Laura", I knew this one was different. When I listen to this song, I can feel sadness. Apathy, pain, grief. But also hope and forgiveness. Loneliness, guilt and regret. Self loathing. A strange kind of nostalgia. A bittersweet realization that I can't change the things that happened but life can go on. "I don't need you anymore." For me, this song represents the feelings James is going through on his journey in Silent Hill. I have never heard a song which fits a videogame and its story any better than this one. By the way, learning how to play "Theme Of Laura" on guitar is truely worth it.

I've been married for like seven years. Occasionally a young person will say to me "Marriage is scary!" And I say; "You're right, it is." I never thought much of the ebb and flow of time and space, the finality of life haunts me, but that's old hat. The real terror in falling in love, in getting married... is realizing you love someone more than anything else in life. That realization leads to the knowledge that one day that person is going to die, and you may or may not half to watch. Never forget your special place!

Вневременной шедевр
Kojima, my dear, did something happened to you? After Konami cancelled Silent Hills, you suddenly gone from the public. Are you losing hope to create a wonderful game? You were so forgetful. Remember that promise you made with del Toro and Norman Reedus? You said you'll create a fantastic horror game, but then you and Konami cancelled it. I wonder what will happen to Silent Hills...

Iqbaal Annaafi If you watched or played the silent hill demo in the hall. You can hear this message ""Dad was such a drag. Every day he'd eat the same kind of food, dress the same, sit in front of the same kind of games… Yeah, he was just that kind of guy. But then one day, he goes and kills us all! He couldn't even be original about the way he did it. I'm not complaining… I was dying of boredom anyway, But guess what? *I will be coming back, and I'm bringing my new toys with me*."... Now people are speculating kojima put it in there as a hint, his relations between konami and himself, him taking distance then coming back with a boom.

R.I.P Silent Hills....It's so sad..no word to it..
Happy 20th anniversary to Silent Hill 2, the greatest horror game ever made! I still remember the day when I got it for ps2 during the Christmas 20 years ago...
Literal masterpiece. Really fits the mood of the entire world right now.
One of the best pieces of Game Music ever, up there with the Soulreaver Intro and One Winged Angel.
This edit gives me goosebumps, god damn, great work!
i get chills hearing these
The soundtrack just blends in the game flawlessly.
how would you react if someone you loved but know is dead just showed up and acted just like them? i'd lose my mind

4:00 This part still gets me every time
2021 and it's still a pleasure to see this
Sh2 is the best
I'm glad that this masterpiece has my name.

Silent Hill is a kind of psychiatric hospital but personally I love it. you're all alone with your own demons
Still the greatest horror game ever made... Even though I don't like Konami anymore, please take us back to Silent Hill. I love this video so much...
2018 and this is still gold.
