Silent Hill 2 was one of the greatest horror games ever made. The creepy atmosphere and plot twist can make you feel disturbed, frightened, and depressed for the protagonist. It had a solid storyline. Rarely modern day video games can accomplish something like this.

*IS, not was the greatest horror game. The best Survival Horror games is • Silent Hill • Silent Hill 2 • Resident Evil Remake (Nintendo Gamecube, PSN, Nintendo eShop, Xbox Live store) I love Resident Evil sequels same as the next guy, but they became more action than survival horror.

I hate story based/driven videogames, especially Western made in US/Canada or EU. They're boring, often boring writing. I prefer Metroidvania, Platforming Sidescrollers, top down dungeon crawlers, games like that, that focus on gameplay, challenging difficulty. Silent Hill 1-3 is a rare exception, especially 2. They maintain gameplay and puzzles with amazing writing, amazing ORIGINAL voice acting not that awful HD Remaster redubbing. It maintained awesome gameplay with the writing, acting and how the story unfolds itself. I love it. Other Western story drive games are awful generally. Think Heavy Rain, that is not a game it's an interactive movie

@1GTX1 life Is Strange, I enjoyed it alright enough. I'm more so an action sidescroller gamer like Mega Man, Castlevania and Metroid, for the most part. I kind of fell out of modern games around the Batman Arkham period, because it offered no challenge.

The main thematic in _Born from a Wish_ may be a little too subtle yet it is a suitable complement to _Letter from Silent Heaven,_ for Maria's scenario shows that - no matter what is specifically happening in the town - *it is ultimately inescapable.* Maria may have questioned her role yet she fulfills it willingly anyway, James doubts often about finding Mary yet he goes deeper into town after whatever clue "she may have left." Silent Hill makes choice an illusion for its victims because _it knows you_ , maybe even more than you do yourself. And it keeps offering irresistible options for those desperate enough. Which finally makes whatever ending one may had got during the main scenario all the more heavier, because none of those decisions are what the town stores for James but the result of his own will overcoming the darkness Silent Hill knows he holds.

It's a little different here than in SH2 proper

from the start of the game to when you meet the first enemy, it seems like you only had one bullet, considering you shot once before you had to reload. If so, that was a nice little detail considering she was just talking about shooting herself

The voice actor of Ernest did a hell of a job, he perfectly translated the grief, angst and sorrow of a father losing a young child in such a tragic way. The whole dialogue is brilliant, so sad.

I don't know how to describe how this game makes me feel. It's like an old dream or memory, not nostalgia, but a feeling of emptiness. Like you are alone in the world, the music and dialogs are creepy af. What a masterpiece.

When I played Maria's story back in 2003 my mind was blow up like crazy. What an ending. What an game. There will be no game come like this..ever.

Maan, Silent hill was the game that both scared me when i was litlle(1st played at 14) and kinda made me sad when i re played at 23, no many games can do that, thanks for the memories SHN!!

That ending is just killer. When I played this years ago I felt like tackling her to the ground and stopping her from walking into the main campaign lol I have never felt such an urge to protect a character from their own game before and havnt since. What they did with Maria is beyond special.

Imagine playing this in a triple monitor setup just to give you an extra advantage of seeing the monsters from the far screen. Would look really immersive.

Theirs a lot of games I have never played before . So I like to thank the ones who took the time in making a video game into a movie that I enjoy watching no matter how long it takes to watch... Thank you so much SHN...

I never felt such a degree of loneliness than playing this scenario. You feel like you truly are the only person in this time (and sort’v are, the other characters haven’t arrived yet) so god knows how long Maria wandered around or was made to feel like she did until finding Ernest. He’s her lifeline, her one source of interaction and she’ll do anything to keep that, unwittingly setting his spirit free and winding up alone again. She can end this hell, or press on and meet out her purpose in James.

I've always felt a profound sense of loneliness when talking to Ernest, especially with the music in the background It really evokes the feeling of being all aline in the world on a grey, dull, and lifeless day with no company bit your tormented memories

I’ve just completed this scenario and absolutely loved it. I first played SH2 about 10 years ago and didn’t have an extended version of the game. So today my dream came true!

I think I've PLAYED it a 100 times. Never gets boring. Try my hardest not to speedrun it though, cause that would ruin the atmosphere..

Could Ernest be another representation of James' mind? His desire to be alone and hide from problems as well as the future (for example: a child) that he was supposed to have with mary?

Thank you for posting this! Never played the DC so it was v cool to see. It's so weird to see SH2 so sharp, as the Gameworld is furnished with PS2 limitations in mind. The writing/voice acting is wibbly on this but sure it was 2001 (looking at the final conversation with Ernest). Great to see a bit more of one of my absolutely fav games. Thank you!

Double dip? I have 3 versions of this game. I initially bought 2 because, you know, director's cut. And I got one extra (plus a bunch of other games and a ps2 console) from someone who thought their ps3 was backwards-compatible lol

I however, bought the debut release for PS2 in September ‘01 & never knew it had a rerelease w/the “Born From A Wish” extra chapter until I literally watched this video. I meant “dlc” simply as a term in which it’s implied that it’s *EXTRA* bonus content NOT released on the initial debut (which is *EXACTLY* what the case is here). So, Thanks for being a smart ass & trying to show me up on some shit I already know. Thanks....?

I have a theory that all the endings are happening at once. Maria is a result of james comitting resurrection. She is a fragmented version of mary which is heart breaking. There are many marias like there are james. What is so sad is laura is following marys spirit which is why she doesnt even acklowdge maria.

The scene with Maria standing at the bottom of the stairs to the attic is so incredibly creepy Absolute silence suddenly broken by a strange sound of something opening followed by panicked voices and then all too suddenly back to disquieting stillness The first time I played it, I was terrified to go into the attic fearful of what I might find

As far as I'm aware, and I could be completely incorrect; Maria is real, and was created by the town when James had entered it. Maria was "Born from a wish" James's subconcious wish, a wish that creates the perfect Mary in his mind. Unfortunately the new Maria was also born with Mary's illness, and she is also doomed to pass away soon, or be dealt the same fate that James dealt to Mary. When Maria was created (or "born") into the town she had the urge to find James, even though she truly had no idea who he was. She only learnt the name from Earnest, but the town had hardwired into her mind that she was supposed to search for this James and be with him. Maria wants James, James wants Mary, James is heavily attracted to Maria, Maria doesn't want James to find Mary. Maria attempts to hold him back as part of his test in the town.
