Silent Hiking Blackett's Ridge Trail Alone | Sabino Canyon | Tucson, Arizona

In a change of scenery, I traveled to Arizona and was able to hike Blackett's Ridge Trail in the Sabino Canyon just north east of Tucson, Arizona. This is a 6 mile day hike and is rated as difficult. Elevation gain is 1,765 ft. There are a lot of cactus and specular views along the way. This is one of the "Must See" hikes if you are in the area. Hope you enjoy.

    Call video with the drone. I did that once about 12 years ago nearly killed me. I want to go back again someday but right now it’s in the hundreds would never make it very nice video.😊

    Thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. In the Kraig Adams style, but you definitely put your mark on it. Well done! I've lived most of my life in AZ, & although I haven't done this hike, it's got me missing my home state @ the moment. Excellent job brother!

    Very amazing video and overhead footage. I’m glad I watched this. I kept waiting for a moment of pause. And reflection on the views. Felt like you were almost running. I am very upbeat but when I’m doing my nature commune I slow to see what wants to speak to me. Thank you for your work.

    you should see what it looks like right now! It's so lush and green. I've never seen it so green in my whole life. We've had so much rain, in fact the most rainfall on record for a monsoon season (contrasted with last year as being one of the worst monsoons on record). It's night and day.

    Extremely informative video without any talking. I just hiked this trail this week and it was awesome. I'm 68 and wanted to test myself. Being from the midwest, I started sucking air at about 3000 feet which is where it starts getting steep, but I made it to the top. You just can't train for thin air when you live close to sea level. If I only had one more trail to hike, this one would probably be it.

    awesome hike dude, I haven't tried this Blackett's Ridge Trail yet it looks so amazing, Just a question is it okey to fly a drone in sabino? because i am planning to buy one but i am not sure if can fly it inside sabino canyon.

  • @BackcountryRenegade

    @BackcountryRenegade

    2 жыл бұрын

    Sabino canyon is Considered a national forest, so it is legal to fly a drone there if you have a license to operate one. However there are sections of the Blacketts trail that dips into wilderness land, and you are not allowed to fly in wilderness. Get the app B4UFLY and it will show you where those areas are. Also as long as u can show you are flying from a non wilderness location you can fly a drone over it.

    Do you realize that Blackett's Ridge is in the Pusch Ridge Wilderness Area where flying drones is not permitted?

  • @BackcountryRenegade

    I filmed these outside of the wilderness and then flew into it which was legal at the time and the safe fly app affirmed that with my location

    @@BackcountryRenegade Here is a quote from the U.S. Forest Service. "UAS are considered to be both “motorized equipment” and “mechanical transport” as such they cannot take off from, land in, or be operated from congressionally designated Wilderness Areas." I couldn't find any exceptions of this rule for recreational drone flying. If you know of one, maybe share it so that others will know. As far as your safe-fly app goes, maybe you should check its accuracy. There are reasons why drones are not allowed to be flown in wilderness areas.

    @@Galiuros right I would say what I mention fall with in that. The key word is “operated from.” Where it took off and where I was operating from was outside the boundaries of wilderness. So it did not take off from nor land in the designated wilderness. Only flown above while operated from outside of it. I asked a park ranger at the visitor center there before hand to be sure and that’s what I was told. If things have changed since that’s different. There are reasons and I support them and abide by them. Also I have a part 104 license so it’s not merely recreational

    That is an obvious lie. You can be seen in the drone videos at the summit of Blackett's, so you're operating well inside the boundary covered by the ban. Oddly, your misrepresentation is confessing to a more serious FAA infraction of flying the drone beyond your line of sight. Line of sight from outside the boundary is impossible for much of the footage you posted. I did that hike weekly for over 8 years, so know the terrain extremely well.
