UPDATE ON THE SECURITY GUARD Hello everyone, I think some might be interested in events after this silent audit. I bumped into the security guard a few days after this was filmed. He was surprised to learn that he appeared in an audit that had been viewed on KZread by thousands of people and was deeply concerned that it made him look bad or stupid. I am VERY pleased to have been able to put his mind at rest. He is an exceptionally nice bloke and a very humble man. I explained to him what silent auditing is and that he had performed extremely well in an unusual circumstance. He was relieved to discover that the consensus amongst those who've commented on this video is that he did a good job. He told me that knew that filming in public is legal and was endeavouring to ensure that women who had expressed to him some concerns were safe. I told him that he did exactly the right thing by escalating to police to make that determination, that he had not exceeded his authority and his approach was exemplary. A few days later I caught up with the security guard again. In the interim I'd had a conversation with the photographer, Citizen of Auckland, who asked me to also pass along how well he thought the security guard had done, to apologise for not speaking with him, to explain this was because doing so would break the silent auditing rules. He understands this. I don't think he's altogether comfortable being a subject in a video like this which is a fairly typical reaction. I encouraged him to relax about it, that anyone who watches this sees a good man doing a fine job.

If you can’t see the point, then there is no hope for you. Was the camera man doing anything illegal.? How many sought to interact with him and try and stop him doing a legal activity. How many offered abuse. What about the guy who threatened violence on him? Why did they call the police on a man doing nothing wrong other than exercising his rights.?

If only more police were like that policewoman. She knows the law, she knows how to calm people down, everyone gets treated with respect, and presumably the shop assistants learned a thing or two. The willingness of New Zealanders to mess with people just because they don't like something is a huge character flaw.

It's just filming. It is the reaction of all those getting upset and then harrasing, intimidating, threatening that is being the closed as cringey truth as you can get. Dumbass part is that every single shop up and down Queen st, every traffic light and public area is littered with cameras. How cringey are the reactions to face recognition in P/S and N/W supermarkets hook that into other networks going to look like?

This is just a snapshot of some of the entitled and sometimes sick people we have to rub shoulders with in Auckland. The cop should have arrested and charged that low-mentality thug for threatening someone in her presence, was he all bluff and bluster or a king hit specialist looking for the easy victim? Instead, he gets to walk and continue his intimidating standover tactics of a bully, not the sort of behavior you would expect to see in a supposedly civil society in the middle of the day on the busiest thoroughfare in the country. And at night when all his mates and other thugs go out to get drugged and pissed up you take your chances being around there, just for a night out.

@motherflange thank you for those salient points. You've just proven my point magnificently as with a few well put together words you have multiplied by a factor of thousands the effectiveness of this video and highlighted the all but waste of time silent audits are. If I'd not asked the questions then you'd have never posted the rational. I'd venture to say calling this an audit seriously stains the current accepted understanding of what an audit is and does. It has been my observation and experience that thousand of people up and down the country excersise their right to make photos / video in public each and everyday and experience no hindrance to that what so ever. I am almost 100% certain that I could stand infront of this exact same store and take half a dozen photos and a thirty second video before moving on with out raising the ire of a single passer by or of the shop staff . As far as i am aware it's only so called auditors who seem to want to push the boundaries of this particular right to its limits by manufacturing situations that draw them in to conflict . Now if the auditor is providing context through their commentary either before , during or after the video then a huge amount of value is added and the excersise becomes more educational and productive. If they have the skills to engage with the public in a way that promotes their intentions and desired outcomes then that's even better again. But to say nothing ...well any intended out comes are just blowing on the wind . Look if this particular right is so important to the auditor then that's up to them entirely and they can have at it. I'd venture to say given how many people excercise this right daily and unhindered up and down the country there are arguably rights more frequently under attack than this one. I've watched a fair number of auditors in action around the globe and hands down this silent genre for me is the least effective.

Think about how many people were educated by this video, without me saying one word, the two ‘unhappy gentleman’ were educated on nz law by the police, then all the workers were also educated on nz law by the police. Now you can stand outside that store and film and they won’t say anything to you I bet.

I'd hazard a guess that most of the folk watching this video already knew of the legality of the activity so not a great deal of education going on there. Of all the folk in the video arguably the security guard , the dude who got agro and was spoken to by the police and the folk the Lush who the Police spoke to may also have learnt something about the rights of people to film in public 🙄...maybe ? So perhaps there was a point to it . Violence or the threat of it is never OK. See , perhaps there is hope for me after all ? The only person who added any value to this so called audit was the Police member who attended . If they hadn't been called then Marcel Marso behind the camera would have achieved nothing beyond riling up a bunch of folk and reinforcing the view of those already singing from the same hym sheet . I've seen many really effective auditors...this is not one of them , in my opinion. I'm sure others will disagree and that is fine .

Yup, I respect people who deserve it, not because ‘it’s the nice thing to do’, that’s exactly why we find ourselves where we are at, the word ‘respect’ and ‘kindness’ have been tainted by the do-gooders and know it alls. Filming in public is our legal right, if you don’t like it, maybe move to Rwanda.

@Green-sm9fi but you can film from the street into people's yards, technically, but not many people would find it acceptable. Like I said, the law has little to do with it- this is just a matter of common decency.

@@hendrikvanleeuwen9110 I don’t think I’m harassing anyone at all. People are choosing to take offence to something they don’t like. It would be like going up to someone eating an ice cream and saying ‘why are you doing that’, then threatening them, then ringing the police.

@Green-sm9fi no, it is like walking up to a person eating an ice cream and starting to film them for no reason. Most normal people would find that creepy. Seems to me you have nothing better to do than try and manufacture situat30ons in which you can play a victim. If you want to do audits, why not try doing one on a gang headquarters or military facility? Oh, that's why, because you don't have the guts for the first and you wouldn't get any attention for the second. Sad man.
