The reason that Silco wouldn't betray Jinx, because he's lived all his life knowing how it's feel to be betrayed. And Jinx is the only person who understand that as well, just like him. So his last words are what his really feel, not some last mojo to manipulating theory most people still believe in.

I agree. The castle of cards represents Silco's dream of the Nation of Zaun, of him spending years building his own criminal empire to fight Piltover, and for him to deliberately destroy the castle symbolizes how willingly he will sacrifice all that for Jinx. Like a father with unconditional love who will sacrifice everything for their daughter. In the end, Silco became like his friend/brother, Vander.

@@mattwoodard2535 Jinx and Zaun is ALREADY broken, he just salvaged the pieces. There's simply no way for Jinx to NOT be mentally ill after what she experienced. You aren't really paying attention to what happened in Zaun, cars are bustling about, people are wearing proper clothes, not filthy rags, some even sports jewelry, a topsider can even breathe without any assistance from a gas mask. Silco improved the air quality and there's rapid technological and economical improvement (mostly enjoyed by the few druglords, but it's still an improvement). Silco is known as "the Industrialist" by Piltover. Life for the average (non-substance abusing, of course) Zaunite is better under Silco. The undercity has already been completely destroyed by neglect and the Shimmer trade is only a mean to an end for him (that's the conflict between him and Finn). The show practically spells it all to you in the ending. Jinx, Silco, Zaun, they're all monsters Piltover created.

Under Silco things got worse in just about every way. More violent crime, betrayal, drug addiction and still very polluted. Yeah the Undercity has more money, but it's concentrated in the crime bosses and the general population is actually POORER then the were before. It's an illusion of wealth, not the real thing. Powder/Jinx had mental problems before, but she got much worse under Silco. He did nothing to help her and in many ways made things worse they they would have. Jinx now suffers from a major case of Anti-Social Personality Disorder where she didn't have before. A so called sociopath. That is NOT an improvement. sm

@@mattwoodard2535 What rules? What bright spots? What integrity? Seriously, you're not paying any attention and it's *you* who are missing the point. Children are beating each other up for scraps. Stealing, strong-arming, and swindling were common practices. Everyone was suspicious of each other and the mood was oppresive. We in fact, did NOT see more violent crime and betrayal, the undercity was ALWAYS a den of crime and poverty, that's Piltover's fault, not Silco's. Caitlyn (who has never stepped a single foot in the undercity) can breathe without a gas mask, so no, they are breathing clean air now. Again, the pollution is Piltover's fault in the first place. The general population are actually wearing proper clothes, where they didn't before, so no, they are NOT poorer than before. Proper clothes, cars, modern technology, that's all material, not an "illusion". Silco is known by the topsiders as "the Industrialist", is that an "illusion" too? You're literally just making stuff up and are working backwards from your preconceived conclusions, while I based everything I said on something concrete in the show. No, Jinx had mental problems before, but she got irreparably worse after she killed all her foster family and abandoned at the critical moment by her sister. It's incidental that this is also the moment that Silco adopted her. It's also doubtful that anybody can really help her after that point. The character literally spelled this all out for you.

The way Silco says "The nation of Zaun" is the second I knew he was going to be something special. You can hear the pain and yearning for something just in his voice. He truly was the protagonist of his story. He believed he could bring a better world for his fellow people he just had to do some terrible things to get there. The makings of an amazing villain is to have a villain who cares. Because he too has things precious to him. Things beyond the desire to just be evil. He has things to fight for and it's heartbreaking to know for the protagonist to succeed he must fail. But what I couldnt have imagined was the inclusion of his love for Jinx. Someone to fight for. That's even more tragic, even more felt with even more emotion. He was cold and ruthless and yes often sadistic, but he did what he did for a greater purpose. For a world beyond himself, one his daughter along the other sons and daughters of Zaun could enjoy. What a masterpiece of a character.

Silco in many ways is a tragic monster. He gave up on everything he loved once, only tae come across a crying abandoned child in the rain. She reminded him of himself and he wanted tae give her what he lost. Then he was given a choice, that which he has always wanted or his daughter. He was trapped. Jinx killing him was likely Silco's best outcome. He likely felt relief, that it was an accident by someone who loved him, rather than betrayal or a cold assassin. He doesnt say the words, but you can feel it. "I'm glad it was you."

For me it’s gotta be Vi and Jinx’s dynamic, but I like the strong parallels between Silco and Jinx as to where they stand with their respective sibling. In the end, Jinx ends up killing Silco as a instinctual response to save her sister, but is unable to “choose” Vi since Jinx is all she is now. It was the perfect conclusion that shows how dissonance and disorder is integral to her character, and that the initial “evil” of Silco has been brought down by an even greater threat (herself)

Well there was that business with Vander at the beginning. But personally I like how his better ideals mix with his callous actions. It’s not easy to say he’s the villain, antagonist certainly but villain? No. The villain is the world they live in. The divide between the oppressed and the oppressors. The ignorance and apathy of Piltover to the plight of Zaun and the bitterness and cruelty that Zaun grew in Piltover’s muck. There is a cause for everything but in terms of the villain it’s never so petty or small as a single person. It’s the setting itself creating twisted monsters and broken people that collapse against one another because of cruel circumstance.

So I'm gonna go on a limb and say it's not as addictive as the rest of us think. Even the glasses addict guy in the slums said he became that way because he got carried away with it.

To be fair, what else could the Zaun offer? The poor nations absolutely have to use shady business to be able to face the stronger ones. We've seen that in Afghanistan, in Iraq and every other nation that fought alone against greater enemy (there are nations that fight without resolving to legalized crime but they do it as long as they recieve funding from more developed nations, like Vietnam did) To wage a war, to be free, you have to do things that nobody else is willing to do. Silco was a terrorist but that term only means that you oppose the current order. The so called "terrorists" that won are called partisans or freedom fighters by their own compatriots.

Incredibly well done villain. Deeply layered and relatable. Not truly evil, he can even be questionably good in some parts, especially when interacting with Jinx. Silco is simply a man whose had to adapt to his rough, cruel circumstances, a man who may have been a good, law abiding citizen if his circumstances would've been different. But, he was raised in the undercity, a rough place where hunger and sickness thrive, and only the strong get enough to eat. Instead of simply accepting the harsh reality of his life, and scraping together a meager existence, he decided to do whatever it took to change his circumstances, to achieve power and greatness, not for himself, but for his life's dream of a free, independent nation, out from under the boot of Piltover, the nation of Zaun.

This is an awesome written villain. You can't just point a finger on him and say this is a one garbage of a human being, like he didn't chose to become like that, the things that happened to him made him like that. And this does not apply only to Silco, but to almost all characters in Arcane - and that's why I love this show so much.

He want Zaun to be equal with Piltover and capable to be stronger for freedom. Silco like Vander was not capable to sacrifice his daughter to achieve power so he choose like Vander to sacrifice his life for his own goal. With his sacrifice, all people in Zaun can see him like a symbol. The symbol that Piltover is not invincible. With the news chimtect-Baron who come, Zaun is really going to be a treat and independant. A total win for a total badass

The way this is all sliced together is quite wonderful. It makes me rewarch just to hear all the character lines. My favorite part of this video. "Beautiful arent they... dont cry... youre perfect... we'll show them... we will show them all" As if silco was talking about the sea monsters, jinx and her weapon. Then telling her not to cry after saying she was perfect. Just amazing :) Another thing I thought of from this, after listening to it for the past month. "I never would have given you to them... not for anything" line struck me after the lines of "Are you prepared to lose her" and "She wont die doctor, she cant". That he would have never given Jinx to them, the topside nor death, and protects her from them. Wouldnt trade jinx for his dream of zuan or his own life. I think deep down, when he smiled while dying saying "Youre perfect". He was happy that he met his end by someone he loves and cared for than to be slain like a commoner on the streets by his "allies". That his last image was jinx and seeing her beside him as he drawn his last breath gave comfort to him. Though, in another comment I saw that "when she stopped crying and hearing those whispers. Silco became another voice in her head". I find this sad as she doesnt want to lose him but at the same time I dont think he will be a demon in her head. Hopefully he is a pushing voice if he is indeed a voice in her head now.
